  • Browns' James Proche: Re-signs with Cleveland

The Browns have re-signed Proche. While Proche didn't catch any of his five targets in 10 games with Cleveland during the 2023 regular season, the 2020 sixth-rounder did contribute on special teams by returning 22 punts for 197 yards as well as one kickoff for 19 yards. Now that he's back in the fold, Proche will have a chance to retain his depth WR/special teams role with the Browns in 2024.

  • Browns' James Proche: Returns one punt in loss

Proche returned one punt for two yards in Saturday's 45-14 wild-card playoff loss to Houston. Proche was a midseason acquisition and took over the punt-return duties after Cleveland traded Donovan Peoples-Jones to the Lions. Proche rarely played on offense outside of a Week 18 meaningless game. His primary body of work over four NFL seasons is that of returner, and he enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent.

  • Browns' James Proche: Special teams only in loss

Proche returned two punts for 30 yards and did not play on offense in Sunday's 36-19 loss to the Rams in Week 13. By the end of the game, Proche was sitting fourth on the depth chart, but he never stepped on the field with the offense. Amari Cooper sustained a concussion in the second quarter and left the game, but head coach Kevin Stefanski opted to get by with a trio of Elijah Moore, Cedric Tillman and David Bell. Proche has played a total of nine snaps with the offense and been targeted once through nine games.

  • Browns' James Proche: No run on offense

Proche did not play on offense and had three punt returns for 37 yards in Sunday's 13-10 win over the Steelers. Proche, who is operating as the No. 5 wideout while Marquise Goodwin (concussion) is unavailable, has taken hold as the primary punt returner. He had a long return of 21 yards that put Cleveland's offense in business on the Pittsburgh side of the field in the third quarter, but an interception ended that threat. In three games on the active roster, Proche has one target and 10 punt returns for 92 yards.

  • Browns' James Proche: One target in win

Proche did not catch his lone target and returned one punt for zero yards in Sunday's 33-31 win over Baltimore. He was in the lineup for a second straight week as the Browns were without Marquise Goodwin (concussion) and David Bell (knee), but Proche was on the field for just three offensive snaps. Sunday's target was his first of the season.

  • Browns' James Proche: Gets promotion to active roster

Cleveland signed Proche from its practice squad to its active roster Tuesday. Proche played just six offensive snaps in his 2023 debut Sunday versus Arizona, but the Browns evidently saw enough of him as a punt returner (six returns, 55 yards) to bring him up on a full-time basis ahead of Week 10. In 2022 with Baltimore, Proche turned 17 targets into eight receptions for 62 yards.

  • James Proche: Reverts to practice squad

Proche reverted to the Browns' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log. With David Bell (knee) inactive and Marquise Goodwin (concussion) exiting in the third quarter, Proche was the fourth receiving option for nearly half the game. He ultimately only saw six offensive snaps (eight percent), while also returning six punts for 55 yards on 10 special-teams snaps (45 percent). He will again be a candidate to be promoted to the active roster in Week 10 versus the Ravens.

  • James Proche: Joins Browns' practice squad

The Browns signed Proche to their practice squad Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. Proche was cut by the Ravens at the end of training camp ahead of the 53-man roster deadline. He had workouts with the Jets and Giants in September, but has finally caught on with the Browns' practice squad. Proche will work on getting up to speed with the offense's playbook and prepare for a chance to be called up to the active roster.

  • James Proche: Works out with New York

Proche participated in a workout with the Jets on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Proche was waived by the Ravens after putting up just four catches for 34 yards in three preseason games while nursing a hip injury. He didn't show much production in three years with Baltimore but is hoping that a change of scenery can help turn things around.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Bruises hip

Proche missed Monday's practice due to a hip contusion, Cordell Woodland of 105.7 The Fan Baltimore reports. Coach John Harbaugh did not seem too concerned about the injury and hinted that Proche could be back at practice Tuesday. After a disappointing 2022 season that saw him record just 62 yards on eight receptions, the 26-year-old is not a lock to make the final 53-man roster. Thus, a quick return would be beneficial so he can continue competing.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Catches two passes in win

Proche secured both of his targets for nine yards in Sunday's 10-9 win over the Broncos. On top of his uninspiring performance as a receiver, Proche was also given an opportunity in the game as a passer. Unfortunately, his only attempt on a gadget play in the fourth quarter was intercepted in the end zone on a throw to Kenyan Drake. The 26-year-old wideout played just 13 of the Ravens' 72 offensive snaps while operating as the team's No. 4 receiver. Proche can not be trusted for fantasy purposes with such limited usage. In addition, Baltimore's passing offense stands to take a hit with Lamar Jackson (knee) most likely sidelined for at least one game. The Ravens host the Steelers in Week 14.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Held catchless in win

Proche failed to secure both of his targets in Sunday's 13-3 win over the Panthers. Proche operated as the No. 3 wideout Sunday, playing just 25 percent of Baltimore's offensive snaps. Unfortunately, the 26-year-old could not make the most of his opportunities on a day when the offense struggled to put points on the board. Proche will be difficult to trust going forward and is likely best left out of fantasy lineups when the Ravens visit the Jaguars in Week 12.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Catches first pass of season

Proche hauled in one of two targets for seven yards during Sunday's 19-17 win over the Bengals. With Rashod Bateman (foot) sidelined, Proche played a season-high 15 offensive snaps and saw his first two targets of the campaign. Aside from Devin Duvernay, who was utilized early and often, the Ravens' wideouts failed to make any big plays through the air for a second straight game. However, Baltimore's passing attack has a good chance to bounce back against the Giants' depleted secondary in Week 6, so Proche could be in line for another solid role if Bateman remains sidelined.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Not listed on injury report

Proche wasn't listed on the injury report Wednesday. Proche missed back-to-back games due to a groin injury, but it appears he'll be good to go for Week 4. Regardless, he'll have a tough time garnering many targets playing behind Rashod Bateman, Devin Duvernay and Demarcus Robinson.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Officially inactive

Proche (groin) is listed as inactive for Sunday's game against the Patriots. Proche failed to suit up during the team's Week 2 contest against the Dolphins with the same injury, and he'll once again watch from the sidelines Sunday against New England. However, his ability to practice in full during Friday's session suggests he's on track to return next Sunday when Baltimore hosts the Bills. In the meantime, fellow WRs Rashod Bateman, Devin Duvernay, Demarcus Robinson and Tylan Wallace should all take on an expanded roles.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Not practicing Thursday

Proche (groin) did not practice Thursday, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports. Proche was able to log a limited practice Wednesday, so this is a step in the wrong direction for the 25-year-old. If he is unable to go Sunday against the Dolphins, Tylan Wallace would likely be looking at extra opportunity as the team's No. 4 wide receiver.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Dealing with groin injury

Proche (groin) was a limited practice participant Wednesday. Proche played just five snaps during the season opener against the Jets, but it's unclear if his limited snaps were part of the game plan or due to his current groin injury. If he isn't upgraded to a full participant Thursday or Friday, the third-year wideout's status for Week 2 could be in jeopardy.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Plays five snaps in Week 1

Proche wasn't targeted across five snaps on offense during Sunday's 24-9 victory against the Jets. Based on their Week 1 usage, Proche and Tylan Wallace (five snaps) look to be locked in a battle for the No. 4 spot at receiver behind Rashod Bateman, Devin Duvernay and Demarcus Robinson. In addition to failing to draw a target, Proche was called for a holding penalty on a 12-yard run by Kenyan Drake, which doesn't help Proche's case for playing time.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Practices Tuesday

Proche (undisclosed) returned to practice Tuesday, Jonas Shaffer of the Baltimore Sun reports. Proche has been dealing with a soft tissue injury, but he returned to practice after missing a couple weeks. With nearly two full weeks left before Baltimore's Sept. 11 season opener against the Jets, he has plenty of time to get back up to speed.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Not practicing yet

Proche (undisclosed) still isn't practicing but caught balls from a JUGS machine Wednesday, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports. Proche has been touted as one of the Ravens' standout performers through two weeks of training camp, but he's been out since Aug. 9 with an unspecified soft-tissue injury. While likely to miss a third straight preseason game this weekend, Proche seems to at least be eyeing a return to practice in the near future. The missed time could hurt his bid for a Week 1 starting job, though the Ravens still don't have great alternatives beyond Rashod Bateman. Behind Bateman, Devin Duvernay and Proche are the best bets for snaps and targets early in the season.
