Takeaways From Aaron Glenn's 1st Season As Jets Coach

Top Jets News

  • Jets' Lenny Krieg: Joins Jets on reserve/future deal

Krieg signed a reserve/future contract with the Jets on Monday.

Nick Folk is set to become a free agent in the offseason, so Krieg's the only kicker in the organization heading into 2026, though more roster moves are expected to follow in the offseason, including the possibility of the Jets re-signing Folk. The 23-year-old Krieg is a Berlin native who has yet to appear in a regular-season NFL game.

  • Jets' Mac Dalena: Scooped up by Jets

Dalena signed a reserve/future contract with the Jets on Monday.

Dalena spent some time with the Chiefs and Seahawks during his rookie season, but the 5-foot-9 wide receiver out of Fresno State didn't appear in a regular-season game. If he sticks with the Jets, Dalena would get a chance to compete for a roster spot in training camp.

  • Jets' Bailey Zappe: Lands future deal with Jets

Zappe signed a reserve/future contract with the Jets on Monday.

The state of the Jets' quarterback room is in flux heading into the 2026 campaign, so Zappe looks poised to have a realistic chance at a roster spot. Zappe has 15 NFL appearances (nine starts) under his belt, with all of those having come for the Jets' AFC East rival Patriots, but he didn't appear in a regular-season game in 2025.

  • Jets' Breece Hall: Return to NYJ in play for UFA

Jets GM Darren Mougey said at Tuesday's end-of-season press conference that the team would like to retain Hall (knee) but wouldn't go into specifics regarding whether the Jets are open to using the franchise tag on the pending unrestricted free agent, Antwan Staley of the New York Daily News reports.

Hall sat out the Jets' regular-season finale due to a knee injury after posting a career-high 1,065 rushing yards across the previous 16 games. The versatile playmaker has accrued 5,040 yards from scrimmage in 56 regular-season games since being selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but Hall has yet to get a taste of NFL postseason action. Hall's likely to have a robust market in free agency, but the Jets could try to bring him back for his age-25 season on the franchise tag if Hall isn't interested in a long-term extension to stay in New York.

  • Jets' Harrison Phillips: Notches 60 tackles in healthy 2025

Phillips recorded 60 tackles (22 solo), including 0.5 sacks, and two passes defensed across 17 appearances in 2025.

After coming over in a trade from Minnesota shortly before the start of the regular season, Phillips proceeded to play in all 17 regular-season games for the fourth consecutive campaign and reached the 60-tackle mark for only the second time in his eight-year NFL career. His cap hit will climb from $4.2 million in 2025 to $7.5 million in 2026, but given Phillips' solid on-field production and off-field leadership coupled with the Jets' lack of depth on the interior of the defensive line, the Jets will likely be willing to eat that increase for his age-30 season.

  • Jets' Malachi Moore: Tops 100 tackles as rookie

Moore registered 101 tackles (56 solo), three passes defensed and a forced fumble across 17 appearances in 2025.

Moore was one of the few bright spots for the Jets in a forgettable season. The rookie fourth-round pick out of Alabama finished second on the team in tackles behind Jamien Sherwood's 154, and Moore forced one of the Jets' league-low four takeaways. The Jets have plenty of holes to fill heading into 2026, but they seem to have found a starting safety in Moore.

  • Jets' Jermaine Johnson: Down year in return from Achilles'

Johnson recorded 43 tackles (22 solo), including 3.0 sacks, and two passes defensed across 14 appearances in 2025.

Johnson wasn't quite the same player in his return from a Sept. 2024 right Achilles' tendon tear. The 2022 first-round draft pick had 7.5 sacks and seven passes defensed in his Pro Bowl 2023 season prior to the injury. Perhaps being another year removed from the injury will help Johnson bounce back in 2026, when he will play on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract, which the Jets exercised this past April. Johnson remains locked in as a starting edge rusher for the Jets.

  • Jets' Quincy Williams: Dips to 83 tackles in 2025

Williams (hand) recorded 83 tackles (45 solo), including 3.5 sacks, and seven passes defensed across 13 appearances in 2025.

Williams fell short of 100 tackles for the first time in five seasons with the Jets as injuries and age took their toll on the 29-year-old linebacker. He dealt with shoulder and hand injuries throughout the season and exited the regular-season finale as the latter injury flared up on him. The Jets traded away Quincy's brother Quinnen Williams during the 2025 season and are unlikely to retain the remaining Williams brother in free agency.

  • Jets' Jamien Sherwood: Second straight 150-tackle season

Sherwood recorded 154 tackles (71 solo), including 2.0 sacks, as well as eight passes defensed while playing all 17 games in 2025.

Sherwood posted similar numbers to his 158-tackle campaign in 2024, leading the Jets in tackles for the second consecutive season. Having signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Jets in March, Sherwood's poised to reprise his role as the team's top middle linebacker for his age-26 season in 2026.

  • Jets' Stone Smartt: Seven catches in 2025

Smartt caught seven of nine targets for 52 yards while dressing for 15 games in the 2025 season.

Smartt played mostly on special teams and drew at least one target in only three of his 15 appearances for the Jets. He spent the previous three seasons with the Chargers and has just one touchdown catch in 53 regular-season NFL games. The 27-year-old Smartt's set to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.

  • Jets' Jeremy Ruckert: First NFL TD among 23 catches

Ruckert caught 23 of 29 targets for 179 yards and one touchdown while playing in all 17 games in 2025.

Ruckert set career highs in catches, receiving yards and targets in his fourth NFL season, and the 2022 third-round draft pick scored his first NFL touchdown in Week 2 against the Bills. After signing a two-year, $10 million contract extension with his hometown team in December, the Lindenhurst, New York native is poised to retain the second spot on the Jets' tight end depth chart behind 2025 second-round pick Mason Taylor (neck) in 2026.

  • Jets' Arian Smith: Seven receptions as rookie

Smith finished his rookie 2025 season with seven catches for 52 yards on 16 targets while adding four carries for 13 yards. He also notched two kickoff returns for 49 yards and recorded three solo tackles.

Smith didn't make much of an impact on offense, as his longest catch went for 23 yards. In his limited action on that side of the ball, Smith primarily ran deep routes but didn't get much attention from the Jets' underwhelming stable of quarterbacks. The 2025 fourth-round pick should have little trouble holding onto a roster spot in 2026 thanks to his contributions as a gunner on special teams, but Smith would need to develop substantially as a receiver to earn fantasy consideration.

  • Jets' Tyler Johnson: Finishes with 12 catches in 2025

Johnson caught 12 of 18 targets for 197 yards and one touchdown in 12 appearances during the 2025 season.

Johnson briefly stepped up while the Jets dealt with numerous injuries at wide receiver, leading the team in receiving yards in Week 7 and Week 8 while reaching 60 receiving yards in both games. He had just two catches for 10 yards after the Week 9 bye, though, as Johnson dropped down the depth chart following the team's trades for wide receivers Adonai Mitchell and John Metchie. The 27-year-old Johnson will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason and will likely have to compete for a roster spot in training camp somewhere.
