Stewart, who left Sunday's 39-37 win over the Buccaneers with a shoulder injury, will undergo an MRI on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Stewart exited the game after coming in to replace Jimmie Ward, who suffered a hamstring injury. The former had his arm in a sling after the game and appears in danger of missing time moving forward. With Stewart and Ward likely to be questionable or worse for Week 10 against the Bengals, DeAndre Houston-Carson may be in line for an expanded role in the contest.... See More ... See Less

Texans' M.J. Stewart: Sees big snap reduction
Stewart recorded no tackles while playing four snaps on defense and 22 on special teams in the Texans' 37-17 win over the Jaguars on Sunday. After recording 10 tackles and a forced fumble while playing every snap on defense in the Texans' Week 2 loss to the Colts, Stewart moved back into a reserve role Sunday with Eric Murray and Jimmie Ward making their returns from injury. Though he played only four snaps on defense Week 3, Stewart's role could become further reduced Sunday against the Steelers if fellow safety Jalen Pitre (chest) is able to return from a two-game absence.... Texans' M.J. Stewart: Signs with Houston
Stewart agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal with the Texans on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports. Stewart appeared in 13 games for the Browns in 2021 and totaled 47 tackles (34 solo), four pass deflections and one forced fumble. The 2018 second-round pick figures to offer depth to Houston's suspect safety group and may even be able to win a starting spot during training camp.... See More ... See Less -
Browns' M.J. Stewart: MRI on tap
Stewart (hamstring) will get an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of his injury, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. The injury was bad enough to prevent Stewart from returning to the game against the Chargers, as he was ruled out while the contest was still in progress. Jovante Moffatt could see more snaps if Stewart needs to miss any more time.... See More ... See Less -
Browns' M.J. Stewart: Won't return Sunday
Stewart (hamstring) has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Chargers, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports. There's been no word on whether this is the same hamstring Stewart struggled with in training camp, although he'd managed to play most of five games without a recurrence of the injury. The Browns will be without some of their depth in the secondary as well as on special teams.... See More ... See Less -
Browns' M.J. Stewart: Makes impact in playoff win
Stewart recorded 10 tackles, one tackle for a loss and an interception in Sunday's 48-37 wild-card win over Pittsburgh. Stewart's first-quarter interception led to a Jarvis Landry touchdown that gave Cleveland a 14-0 lead five minutes into the game. It was the second consecutive week with an interception for Stewart.... See More ... See Less -
Browns' M.J. Stewart: Officially questionable
Stewart (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Ravens, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports. Stewart has been managing a hamstring injury since late August. With Greedy Williams (shoulder) and Kevin Johnson (abdomen) already ruled out for Week 1, Stewart could be in line for an increased depth role at cornerback if he's able to suit up.... See More ... Browns' M.J. Stewart: Finds new home
The Browns claimed Stewart off waivers Saturday, Field Yates of ESPN reports. Selected by the Buccaneers in the second round of the 2018 draft, Stewart suffered through injuries and ineffectiveness during two seasons with the team. Overall, he totaled 68 tackles and five passes defended in 21 appearances. Tampa Bay recently cut Stewart, allowing him to find a new home in Cleveland. He'll provide depth for a cornerback group led by Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams.... See More ... See Less -
Buccaneers' M.J. Stewart: Modest sophomore campaign
Stewart logged 35 tackles (28 solo) and two defensed passes across 10 games during the 2019 season. Through 21 career games, Stewart has yet to log a turnover, but he once again served as a steady, albeit unspectacular, member of the Buccaneers' secondary rotation. The 2018 second-round pick dealt with a knee sprain that cost him three games, and he also was a healthy scratch on three other occasions. As his final line indicates, Stewart had next to no IDP value in 2019, and he may have a battle on his hands to hold onto a roster spot next season as a result of his modest first pair of campaigns.... Buccaneers' M.J. Stewart: Won't play Sunday
Stewart (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's contest against the Lions, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports. Stewart appears to be a healthy scratch for Week 15. In his stead, Jamel Dean, Ryan Smith and Mazzi Wilkins are candidates to play expanded depth roles in Tampa Bay's secondary.... See More ... See Less -
Buccaneers' M.J. Stewart: No practice Wednesday
Stewart (knee) did not practice Wednesday. Stewart has missed two consecutive contests due to a sprained right knee, and he appears to be trending in the wrong direction for Sunday's game in Jacksonville. With Sean Murphy-Bunting (knee) and Jamel Dean (shoulder) also nursing injuries, Tampa Bay's secondary could be hampered by a multitude of issues Week 13.... See More ... See Less -
Buccaneers' M.J. Stewart: Won't play Sunday
Coach Bruce Arians said Friday that Stewart (knee) is ruled out for Sunday's tilt against the Falcons, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports. Stewart will miss a second straight game as he nurses a sprained right knee. As long as the 2018 second-round pick is unable to go, expect Carlton Davis and Sean Murphy-Bunting to remain locked in as Tampa Bay's starters at cornerback.... See More ... See Less -
Buccaneers' M.J. Stewart: Posts eight tackles
Stewart (knee) registered eight tackles (six solo) in Sunday's win over the Cardinals. Stewart recorded his stat line over the course of only 52 snaps, with 10 of those being on special teams, as he was forced from Sunday's game with a knee injury and did not return. With Vernon Hargreaves being waived Tuesday, Stewart could be in line for a larger role on defense given that his knee injury is not serious.... See More ... See Less -
Buccaneers' M.J. Stewart: Will not play Week 13
Stewart (foot) has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup with the Panthers, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports. Stewart will miss his fifth straight game because of this foot issue. His absence will leave the Buccaneers thin in the secondary Sunday, as fellow rookie Carlton Davis (knee) has also been ruled out and Brent Grimes (knee) is listed as questionable. Ryan Smith and Javien Elliott will likely see an increase in work Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Buccaneers' M.J. Stewart: Ruled out again
Stewart (foot) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports. Stewart will miss his third straight game due to a lingering foot issue, and remain sidelined Week 11. Expect Carlton Davis and De'Vante Harris to once again slot in as the Buccaneers' nickel and dime cornerbacks during Sunday's tilt against the Giants. A timetable for Stewart's recovery has yet to be disclosed.... See More ... See Less -
Buccaneers' M.J. Stewart: Team-high tackle total in Week 3 loss
Stewart totaled nine stops (all solo) and a pass breakup in the Buccaneers' 30-27 loss to the Steelers on Monday. Stewart logged a team-high tackle total during the loss. The North Carolina product continues to back up fellow first-year corner Carlton Davis, but he was on the field for 43 snaps in Week 3. Given his sure tackling and solid playing time, Stewart holds increasing appeal as an IDP option in deeper formats.... See More ... See Less
