Top Saints News

  • Saints' Adam Trautman: Should serve as top TE on Monday

Trautman is likely to serve as the Saints' starting tight end in Monday's game at Tampa Bay with Juwan Johnson (ankle) listed as out for the contest.

New Orleans could elevate one or both of J.P. Holtz or Lucas Krull from the practice squad before Monday, but at the moment, Trautman and Taysom Hill are the only healthy tight ends on the active roster. Considering that the jack-of-all-trades Hill has lined up as a receiver or in-line tight end on just 91 of his 195 snaps on offense this season, Trautman looks like the better bet to step into Johnson's role as the Saints' top pass-catching tight end. Trautman hasn't logged more than three targets in any game this season and would still represent little more than a dart throw at the position for fantasy managers who are lacking appealing alternatives.

  • Saints' Pete Werner: Considered questionable

Werner (ankle) is questionable for Monday's game against the Buccaneers.

Werner has missed each of the Saints' last two games, but he managed a pair of limited practices ahead of Monday's game against the Buccaneers. He could be set for a return as a result, which would provide a boost to the defense. Through nine games this season, Werner has recorded 74 total tackles with two forced fumbles.

  • Saints' Payton Turner: Not playing at Tampa Bay

Turner (ankle) is listed as out for Monday's game at the Buccaneers, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Turner will miss his second consecutive game with an ankle injury he sustained in Week 11 versus the Rams. In the place of the 2021 first-rounder, Carl Granderson should continue to see increased reps on the edge.

  • Saints' P.J. Williams: Won't play Monday night

Williams (knee) is listed as out for Monday's game at Tampa Bay, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Williams was forced out of New Orleans' loss at San Francisco in Week 12 early with a knee injury, and he'll now have to miss at least one game as he recovers. The Saints will probably need to lean more heavily on starters Tyrann Mathieu and Marcus Maye at safety in Williams' absence.

  • Saints' J.T. Gray: Won't play at Tampa Bay

Gray (hamstring) is listed as out for Monday's game at the Buccaneers, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Gray will miss his third consecutive game as he works to recover from a lingering hamstring injury. New Orleans will need to continue to try to find a way to replace his special teams production until he's healthy enough to play again.

  • Saints' Marshon Lattimore: Questionable for Monday

Lattimore (abdomen) is listed as questionable for Monday's game at Tampa Bay, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

He's missed New Orleans' last seven games dealing with a lacerated kidney, and despite another limited practice session, it's still up in the air whether Lattimore will be ready to go in Week 13 at the Buccaneers. If he's again sidelined Monday, rookie second-rounder Alontae Taylor would likely continue to fill in on the boundaries.

  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Set for Monday

Shaheed (back) does not carry an injury into Monday's contest against the Buccaneers, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

The return man has been sharing time with Kevin White and Tre'Quan Smith as the team's No. 3 wideout, but at least in comparison to the other two, the undrafted rookie had an explosive outing in last week's loss to the 49ers. It would be unlikely for Shaheed to break out further with the likes of Jarvis Landry and Chris Olave set to garner the majority of the targets in the passing game.

  • Saints' Jarvis Landry: Cleared for Monday

Landry (ankle) does not carry an injury designation into Monday's contest against the Buccaneers, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

This has been the typical practice cadence for the veteran since he injured his ankle back in Week 5. Landry has done next to nothing over the past three weeks with the Saints' offense limited in many facets, resulting in just eight total receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown since making his return in Week 10.

  • Saints' Kevin White: Uncertain for Monday

White (illness) is listed as questionable for Monday's matchup against the Buccaneers, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

The depth receiver didn't practice both Thursday and Friday, but White appears to be trending in a positive direction after logging a limited participation in Saturday's practice. Despite the bump in playing time, White has just two receptions total this season and has just three combined targets since Week 9.

  • Saints' Juwan Johnson: Out for Monday

Johnson (ankle) has been ruled out and will not play Monday against the Buccaneers, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Johnson never managed to practice this week, so it's not entirely surprising to see the touchdown threat sidelined. Expect Adam Trautman to see an increase in snaps while Taysom Hill will continue his usual multi-position production.

  • Saints' Juwan Johnson: No practice again

    Johnson (ankle) didn't practice Friday.

The tight end is in danger of missing Monday's game at Tampa Bay after back-to-back missed practices. He played only 45 percent of snaps and finished without a catch in last week's 13-0 loss to San Francisco, following six straight games with multiple receptions and at least 63 percent snap share (not to mention five TDs in the six-game stretch). Adam Trautman and Taysom Hill are the best bets to take on more snaps if Johnson can't play Monday night, though his absence might also free up more playing time for the team's depth wide receivers.

  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Limited at practice

Shaheed (back) was a limited practice participant Friday.

Back-to-back limited practices suggest Shaheed is on track to play, though it's still possible he gets a game designation when the Saints release their final injury report Friday for Monday's game in Tampa Bay. The undrafted rookie out of Weber State made some big plays on limited snaps in October and then played 48 and 53 percent of snaps the past two weeks. After catching two of three targets for 53 yards in a shutout loss to San Francisco last week, Shaheed could get another look Monday night as the Saints' No. 3 receiver, with the other options being Kevin White (illness), Tre'Quan Smith and Marquez Callaway.

  • Saints' Jarvis Landry: Limited in practice, per usual

Landry (ankle) was a limited practice participant Friday.

Limited participation has been the norm since Landry missed Weeks 5-9 with an ankle injury. He's played in three straight games but caught only eight passes for 90 yards and a TD on 14 targets, landing in the range of 55-to-78 percent snap share each of the past three weeks. Landry figures to suit up for Monday's game in Tampa Bay even if the ankle issue is something he can't entirely shake this year.

  • Saints' Mark Ingram: Logs full practice

Ingram (foot) was a full practice participant Friday.

Ingram is set to handle his familiar role as Alvin Kamara's backup for a second straight week, after missing three games with an MCL sprain. He got four carries for 10 yards in his first game back, while Kamara had 13 touches and Taysom Hill took seven. Kamara did lose two fumbles in the game, and it's possible Ingram gets more work if the ball-security issues continue Monday night in Tampa Bay.

  • Saints' Bradley Roby: Sits out practice with concussion

Roby (concussion) did not practice Thursday.

Roby exited during the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the 49ers to be examined for a concussion, which was confirmed by his lack of participation during the first practice Week 13. The cornerback was sidelined on IR with an ankle injury for four games before returning against San Francisco in Week 12, though he'll now have to sit out once again if he cannot clear protocols before Monday's game against the Buccaneers. With top cornerback Marshon Lattimore still working his way back from an abdomen injury, Alontae Taylor and Paulson Adebo will likely play prominent roles again if Roby is sidelined against Tampa Bay.
