Player Outlook
We already know Fields' rushing skills make him a potential top-five Fantasy quarterback, but if his passing game improves he has a shot to be the highest-scoring quarterback in Fantasy. Following the mold of the Bills and Eagles, the Bears acquired high-profile receiver D.J. Moore to provide a reliable target for an improved Fields. Moore will help in problem areas like third downs and intermediate pass completions, but Fields simply has to be a better thrower. Last season, 48.4% of his Fantasy points from his breakout Week 5 through the end of the year came on his rushing stats alone. That number seems tough to replicate, so if Fields doesn't make strides throwing the ball, he'll disappoint. But if he does improve, the gamble of taking him as the fifth or sixth quarterback off the board will pay off in spades. Expect Fields to be a top-eight pick in Superflex/two-QB leagues and a Round 3 or 4 choice in one-QB formats.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Overcomes mistakes in win

Fields completed 27 of 37 passes for 217 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed 12 times for 59 yards in the Bears' 12-10 win over the Vikings on Monday. He also lost two fumbles. Fields opened the game red-hot from an efficiency standpoint, completing his first 12 passes before one of his throws hit the ground for the first time at the 14:24 mark of the second quarter. The dynamic signal-caller went on to connect with a narrow pool of five targets, and his chemistry with DJ Moore was on display throughout the night to the tune of 11 completions and 114 yards. Fields' first fumble, which came on a Danielle Hunter sack early in the fourth quarter, led to the only touchdown of the night for either club, but Fields atoned for it by putting Chicago into position for what would prove to be the game-winning field goal on a drive in which he hit Moore for gains of 16 and 36 yards. The Bears remain extreme long shots for the postseason at 4-8, but Fields heads into the Week 13 bye with some momentum and gets a rematch with a shaky Lions secondary in his Week 14 return to action Sunday, Dec. 10.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Tops 100 rushing yards in return

Fields (thumb) completed 16 of 23 passes for 169 yards and one touchdown while rushing 18 times for 104 yards in Sunday's 31-26 loss to the Lions. Fields hit the ground running in his first action since suffering a dislocated thumb in Week 6, racking up 28 rushing yards and 38 passing yards on an opening drive that ended in a one-yard rushing touchdown by D'Onta Foreman, who later left the game due to an ankle injury. Chicago mustered only three additional points in the first half, but Fields heated up in the third quarter and put his team up 20-14 with a 39-yard touchdown pass to DJ Moore. Detroit ultimately scored the final 17 points, including two on a Fields fumble that went out of the end zone for a safety in the final seconds, but Fields' success on the ground in his return suggests he isn't playing through any physical limitations heading into a Week 12 trip to Minnesota.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Sleeper QBs

I'm putting Fields in the sleeper section because I'm slightly concerned about his situation in Week 11 at Detroit. He missed the past four games with a thumb injury, and hopefully there's no rust from the layoff. While the Lions are No. 10 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks, I still view this as a tough defense to face on the road. That said, it's great to have Fields back, and prior to his injury in Week 6 against Minnesota he scored at least 35.9 Fantasy points in consecutive games. Consider Fields a low-end starter in all leagues and hopefully he's back to 100 percent for the rest of the season.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Opens week with full practice

Fields (thumb) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. A dislocated right thumb has kept Fields from playing in the Bears' last four games, but after putting in a full practice Wednesday for the first time since Week 6, he appears on track to end his streak of absences this Sunday in Detroit. According to Larry Mayer of the Bears' official site, head coach Matt Eberflus said earlier Wednesday that Fields is "progressing well" and the team plans to have him start against the Lions, though formal confirmation on the matter may not be made until after Chicago's final practice of the week Friday. Over his first six starts before exiting midway through a Week 6 loss to the Vikings with the injury, Fields completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 7.4 yards per attempt and 11 touchdowns against six interceptions while accounting for 237 yards and another score as a runner.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Won't start, could warm up

Fields (thumb) is listed as doubtful for Thursday's game against Carolina, and it isn't yet clear if he'll go through a pregame warmup prior to the 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports. Head coach Matt Eberflus said Wednesday that Fields made it through a week of limited practices without any setbacks or swelling in his right thumb, but the quarterback still hasn't received medical clearance to play in a game, per Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times. Undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent is in line for another start Thursday, with Fields potentially returning Week 11 against the Lions or Week 12 against the Vikings.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Likely to remain out Thursday

Fields (thumb) is listed as doubtful for Thursday's game against Carolina. After turning in a limited practice last Friday before ultimately sitting out the Bears' Week 9 loss to the Saints, Fields continued practicing this week and remained listed as a limited participant each day. Though he's seemingly continuing to progress in his recovery from a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand, Fields doesn't look like he's quite ready to play and is expected to miss his fourth straight game Week 10. Rookie backup Tyson Bagent should thus be in store for another start Thursday, and he's not the worst fill-in option in deeper leagues, given that he's facing a poor defense and has proven to be both active as a runner and willing to take risks as a passer. The downside of the risk-taking is that Bagent has thrown six interceptions in four appearances, but he may have better luck against an injury-ravaged Carolina defense that won't have standout pass rusher Brian Burns (concussion) or starting cornerback CJ Henderson (concussion) on the field Thursday. As for Fields, he should have a better chance at making his return to the lineup Week 11, when the Bears will have a normal week of practices leading up to a Nov. 19 game in Detroit.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Limited again Tuesday

Fields (thumb) remained limited on Tuesday's estimated practice report. The Bears play the Panthers on Thursday night but have only conducted a pair of walkthroughs Monday and Tuesday to open the practice week. Fields remains day-to-day, and it's unclear if he'll return to face Carolina. If he doesn't make the start, it'll again be rookie Tyson Bagent under center.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Still limited, labeled day-to-day

Head coach Matt Eberflus said that Fields (thumb) was limited during Monday's walk-through practice and is considered day-to-day, Adam Jahns of The Athletic reports. Fields has missed the last three games due to a dislocated right thumb, but he appears to be closing in on a return to game action. While he hasn't been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Panthers, he won't benefit from a typical week of prep work as he aims to avoid a fourth consecutive missed game. The Bears will continue to evaluate him in the coming days, and if he's unavailable Thursday, it certainly seems possible that he could return Week 11 against the Lions on Sunday, Nov. 19.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Doubtful for Sunday

Fields (thumb) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game at New Orleans. On a positive note, Fields was able to practice in a limited capacity Friday. Still, considering his designation for Week 9 action, he's poised to miss a third consecutive contest due to a dislocated right thumb. Once Fields' lack of availability is confirmed approximately 90 minutes before Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff, Tyson Bagent will serve as the Bears' starting quarterback yet again.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Not yet cleared to practice

Fields (thumb) didn't participate in Thursday's practice. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus hinted Monday that Fields may be able to practice in some fashion this week, but the quarterback has remained sidelined for the team's first two sessions of Week 9 while he continues to recover from a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand. Eberflus has already announced that Tyson Bagent will start his third consecutive game this Sunday at New Orleans, so expect Fields to be formally ruled out for that contest following the release of Friday's injury report.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Ruled out for Week 8

Fields (thumb) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports. Tyson Bagent will make a second consecutive start with Fields missing another game due to a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand. The Bears haven't commented on Fields' availability beyond Sunday, so a return for Week 9 at the Saints on Nov. 5 isn't out of the question. After the Week 9 game, the Bears have a Thursday night game just four days later against the Panthers in Week 10.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Misses practice, as expected

Fields (thumb) didn't practice Wednesday. The absence from practice was expected after head coach Matt Eberflus referred to Fields as "doubtful" to play Sunday against the Chargers when asked Monday for an update on the quarterback's status. The 24-year-old likely will work with the training staff for most of the week while Tyson Bagent prepares for his second NFL start this weekend in Los Angeles.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: On track to miss another start

Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said Fields (thumb) is being classified as "doubtful" for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports. Eberflus relayed that while Fields' condition is improving, there is "no change" in his status while the third-year signal-caller continues to recover from the dislocated right thumb he sustained in the Bears' Week 6 loss to the Vikings on Oct. 15. The Bears have already named Tyson Bagent as their Week 8 starter after the undrafted rookie out of Division II Shepherd completed 21 of 29 pass attempts for 162 yards and a touchdown to go with three carries for 24 yards in Chicago's 30-12 win over Las Vegas in Week 7. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Fields is regaining grip strength and is expected to require 2-to-3 weeks to make a full recovery from the injury, so it's still possible that he may be able to practice in some capacity Week 8. Fields will turn his focus to making a potential return to game action for the Bears' Nov. 5 matchup with the Saints in Week 9.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Has chance to return Week 8

Fields (thumb), who has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Raiders, won't require surgery on his throwing hand and may have a chance at playing in the Bears' Week 8 game against the Chargers on Oct. 29, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Fields dislocated the thumb on his throwing hand in the Bears' Week 6 loss to the Vikings, and though the team isn't putting an official timeline on his return, Rapoport relays that the quarterback's thumb injury is considered a 2-to-3-week injury. With that in mind, the Bears aren't yet ready to rule Fields out from playing Week 8, but he'll almost certainly need to practice at least once between next Wednesday and Friday just to take a questionable designation into that contest. Rapoport adds that Fields is already regaining grip strength, but the Bears likely won't be able to gauge if he's fit to play until evaluating him in a practice setting. Undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent will make the start in Fields' stead Week 7 and will be backed up by Nathan Peterman.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Won't play Sunday

Fields (thumb) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Raiders. After dislocating the thumb in his right throwing hand this past Sunday against the Vikings, Fields was deemed doubtful for Week 7 action by head coach Matt Eberflus, per Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic. Fields will need to regain his typical grip strength in order to be cleared for game action, and Ebeflus told Fishbain on Friday that "he's improving. ... It's trending in the right direction. He'll be week to week, but we'll know more Monday." With Fields out Sunday, undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent is the top candidate to get the start at quarterback over veteran Nathan Peterman.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Not practicing Thursday

Fields (thumb) didn't practice Thursday. Coach Matt Eberflus said Monday that he considers Fields doubtful for Sunday's game against the Raiders. The Bears haven't announced whether Tyson Bagent or Nathan Peterman will start if Fields is out this week, though Bagent is the favorite after leapfrogging Peterman on the depth chart at the beginning of the month. Bagent struggled in Sunday's 19-13 loss to Minnesota, however, throwing an interception and having a fumble returned for a touchdown by the defense.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Won't practice Wednesday

Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said that Fields (thumb) won't practice Wednesday, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports. Eberflus added that he has no updates on Fields' health at this time, noting that the quarterback remains unlikely to play in Sunday's game against the Raiders. The head coach reiterated that Fields' availability to play moving forward will come down to a matter of grip strength. Assuming Fields ends up sitting out the Week 7 game versus Las Vegas, the Bears will turn to either undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent or veteran Nathan Peterman as their starter.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Doubtful for Week 7

Coach Matt Eberflus confirmed Monday that Fields suffered a dislocated right thumb in Sunday's loss to the Vikings and is "doubtful" for Week 7 against the Raiders, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports. Eberflus noted that it's all going to come down to "grip strength" when discussing Fields' timetable. Undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent won the Bears' QB2 job after a surprising preseason and came in in relief of Fields on Sunday. Bagent lost a fumble that was returned for a touchdown on his very first snap and finished 10-for-14 passing for 83 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. Chicago also could opt to start veteran Nathan Peterman versus Las Vegas.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: X-rays negative on right hand

Coach Matt Eberflus said X-rays were returned negative on Fields' right hand following Sunday's 19-13 loss to the Vikings, and the quarterback will have an MRI on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Fields was sacked four times Sunday, and the last one in the middle of the third quarter knocked him from the game for good. After the play, he was favoring his right hand and eventually made his way to the locker room, from which he was ruled out. Undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent took over the offense thereafter, and the Bears also have Nathan Peterman on the active roster, so those two could stand to benefit if Monday's tests result in any sort of absence for Fields.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Stays hot in TNF win

Fields completed 15 of 29 passes for 282 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions while adding 57 yards on 11 rushes in the Bears' 40-20 win over the Commanders on Thursday night. Four days after a stellar showing against the shaky Broncos secondary in which he threw for a season-high 335 yards and four touchdowns, Fields produced a similarly impressive performance that saw the connection between him and top wideout DJ Moore in elite form. Eight of Fields' completions and 230 of his passing yards were achieved in conjunction with Moore, who also hauled in touchdown passes of 20, 11 and 56 yards. Fields hit tight end Cole Kmet from four yards out for a four-yard scoring toss just before halftime as well, leaving him just six touchdown passes short of the 17 he threw last season over 15 games. Fields' rushing total was also his second highest of the campaign, affording him plenty of momentum for what could be another busy day for him and his pass catchers against the Vikings in a Week 6 home matchup Sunday, Oct. 15.
