  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Leads backfield in Week 18 win

Gibson carried the ball 12 times for 41 yards and caught four of six targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 23-16 win over the Bills. With Rhamondre Stevenson getting the day off in a meaningless game for both sides, Gibson led the Patriots' backfield and topped 60 scrimmage yards for the second straight week. The former Washington RB capably filled a backup role for New England in 2024, finishing the season with 744 combined yards over 17 appearances. Stevenson is under contract through 2028 while Gibson has two more years left on his deal, but a new coaching staff might have different ideas about the workload split between them next season after head coach Jerod Mayo and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt were let go immediately after Sunday's contest.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Week 18 Waiver Priority List

We don't know if the Patriots will use Gibson or Rhamondre Stevenson as the primary running back in Week 18 against Buffalo, but Gibson is worth adding and using as a flex option if Week 17 carries over to this week. Gibson had 12 carries for 63 yards and one target against the Chargers, while Stevenson had two carries for 1 yard and one target. He was punished for fumbling at Buffalo in Week 16, and the Patriots could continue to lean on Gibson. The Bills have allowed a running back to score at least 12.3 PPR points in three of their past four games, including Stevenson in Week 16 when he had 12 carries for 60 yards and a touchdown and one catch for 13 yards on one target, along with the fumble. Gibson had 10 carries for 28 yards and two catches for 8 yards on two targets in that game.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Leads team backfield Saturday

Gibson ran for 63 yards on 12 carries during Saturday's 40-7 loss to the Chargers. The Patriots previously indicated that Gibson would start over Rhamondre Stevenson in this game, but evidently the Patriots meant that Gibson would merely get the most usage of the two, as Stevenson was for some reason still the ceremonial starter Saturday. It's not clear what New England meant to convey with that, but Stevenson finished with only two carries for one yard while Gibson otherwise took over the backfield. Stevenson was previously reported as benched due to his prolific fumbling, and it remains to be seen if the Patriots mean to continue making a point on that front. Neither Patriots running back is likely set up all that great against the Bills in Week 18 unless Buffalo plays only second and third stringers in what could be a meaningless game, but it seems like Gibson has the recent momentum, mixed signals from the Patriots coaches aside.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: In line to start Saturday

Gibson will start at running back over Rhamondre Stevenson in Saturday's game against the Chargers, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports. On the heels of his recent fumbling issues, Stevenson is slated to give way to Gibson on Saturday, at least in terms of the starting assignment. That said, we'd still expect Stevenson to see his share of work versus the Chargers, but his ball security issues of late should lead to Gibson seeing a higher percentage of New England's backfield snaps than usual in Week 17.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Week 17 Waiver Priority List

Gibson could start in Week 17 against the Chargers after Rhamondre Stevenson again had trouble with ball security in Week 16 at Buffalo. Stevenson lost his third fumble of the season, and he also dropped a backward pass from Drake Maye that was recovered in the end zone by the Bills. Gibson would only be a flex option at best if we knew Stevenson wasn't going to play, but it's doubtful Gibson will get the majority of touches. He has three games this season with at least 10 total touches, and he scored 11.3 PPR points, 7.3 PPR points, and 5.6 PPR points in those outings.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Carries 10 times Sunday

Gibson carried 10 times for 28 yards and caught both of his targets for eight yards in Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Bills. Gibson also recorded a fumble that was recovered by New England in the contest, while logging 43 of a possible 73 snaps on offense, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. Meanwhile, starting RB Rhamondre Stevenson was on the field for 32 snaps en route to carrying 12 times for 60 yards and a TD and catching his only target for 13 yards, while fumbling once (recovered by Buffalo) and also being involved in a turnover (assigned to QB Drake Maye) that the Bills turned into a score. As Saturday's game against the Chargers approaches, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald relays that head coach Jerod Mayo indicated that it's a possibility that the team could start Gibson over Stevenson in Week 17. The last time that happened (stemming from Stevenson's ball-security issues early on this season), the two backs each logged 28 snaps in the Patriots' Week 5 loss to the Dolphins, with Stevenson recording 12 carries for 89 yards and a TD and catching four passes for three yards, while Gibson rushed six times for 52 yards and added one catch for four yards. With that in mind, it's plausible that Gibson could handle enough touches versus Los Angeles to merit deep-league lineup consideration, but Stevenson figures to remain part of the game plan, even if he doesn't take the first snap out of the team's backfield.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Week 16 Waiver Priority List

Gibson is worth using as a flex option in deeper leagues heading into Week 16 at Buffalo. He's only had seven touches in each of his past three games, but he scored at least 8.4 PPR points in two in a row against the Colts and Cardinals. Rhamondre Stevenson still gets the majority of touches for the Patriots, but Gibson could be a desperation flex play against the Bills, who are No. 2 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Gains 64 yards on nine touches

Gibson had seven carries for 33 yards and two receptions (on as many targets) for 31 yards in Sunday's 30-17 loss to the Cardinals. Gibson followed up his first touchdown of the season with a well-rounded effort behind starter Rhamondre Stevenson (13-69-0). The 26-year-old Gibson is averaging 4.7 yards with the Patriots this season, a mark he hadn't sniffed since his impressive rookie campaign with Washington in 2020. Gibson can provide niche value for those in deep PPR formats for Week 16 against Buffalo.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Scores first TD of season

Gibson carried the ball seven times for 62 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 25-24 loss to the Colts. The fifth-year RB posted his best rushing yards total since Week 2, and Gibson capped his big performance with an 11-yard TD run in the fourth quarter that gave the Patriots a 24-17 lead. The trip to the end zone was the first of the season for the former Washington back -- his last touchdown came in Week 16 of 2023. He hasn't seen double-double digits touches while Rhamondre Stevenson has been healthy since Week 2, but Gibson's ability to turn small holes into big gains could lead to a bigger role in the offense on the other side of New England's Week 14 bye.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Six carries versus Miami

Gibson, who logged 30 of a possible 69 snaps on offense in Sunday's 34-15 loss to the Dolphins, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, carried six times for 31 yards and caught one of his two targets for 14 yards in the contest. Meanwhile, starting running back Rhamondre Stevenson was on the field for 29 snaps Sunday, while carrying eight times for 13 yards and not catching either of his two targets. While we don't expect Gibson to overtake Stevenson in the Patriots' backfield pecking order any time soon, Gibson's workload this coming weekend against the Colts will be worth monitoring to see if the uptick in his RB snap share extends beyond Week 12, when Stevenson struggled to get going in a game in which Miami led by a 31-0 score by the end of the third quarter.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Four carries Sunday

Gibson carried four times for 18 yards and caught his only target for two yards in Sunday's 28-22 loss to the Rams. Per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, Gibson was on the field for 13 of a possible 76 snaps on offense, while Rhamondre Stevenson logged 58 snaps and 20 carries in the contest. As long as Stevenson remains available, neither Stevenson or JaMycal Hasty (five snaps, two carries) merit fantasy lineup consideration.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Five carries Sunday

Gibson logged seven of a possible 64 snaps on offense in Sunday's 19-3 win over the Bears, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. In the process, Gibson recorded 26 rushing yards on five carries and wasn't targeted in the contest. As long as he continues to work behind Rhamondre Stevenson (45 snaps, 20 carries Sunday), Gibson is off the fantasy radar.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Limited role Sunday

Gibson was on the field for eight of a possible 69 snaps on offense in Sunday's 20-17 overtime loss to the Titans, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. Gibson finished the contest with one carry for minus-one yard and caught his only target for 12 yards. While working behind Rhamondre Stevenson (51 snaps, 10 carries versus Tennessee), Gibson carries limited fantasy upside ahead of a Week 10 trip to Chicago.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Ready to face Titans

Gibson (toe) doesn't carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Titans. After being limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday, Gibson worked fully Friday, paving the way for the running back to face Tennessee on Sunday. In the Patriots' win over the Jets in Week 8, Gibson was on the field for 13 snaps on offense, en route to rushing five times for seven yards in the contest. With Rhamondre Stevenson -- who finished with 20 carries versus New York -- working in the lead role, Gibson's fantasy value is limited in his complementary role.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Five carries in backup role

Gibson rushed five times for six yards and wasn't targeted in Sunday's 25-22 win over the Jets. Gibson was used in a backup role while Rhamondre Stevenson rumbled for two touchdowns on 20 carries. Stevenson even got all three of the targets among New England's running backs. Even in a favorable matchup against the reeling Titans, Gibson will be tough to trust in Week 9 with a healthy Stevenson occupying a workhorse role.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Three carries Sunday

Gibson, who was on the field for a season-low 10 snaps on offense in Sunday's 32-16 loss to the Jaguars, carried three times for four yards and caught his only target for nine yards in the contest, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. After working as the Patriots' lead back Week 6 when Rhamondre Stevenson was sidelined by a foot injury, Gibson returned to a complementary role versus the Jaguars, with Stevenson (30 snaps, seven carries) back in action. Gibson briefly left Sunday's game in the first quarter after suffering an undisclosed injury, and perhaps that led to his limited usage and JaMycal Hasty's corresponding uptick in touches (20 snaps, two carries, five catches). Either way, as long as Stevenson is available, Gibson carries modest fantasy upside.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Bottled up in lead role

Gibson rushed 13 times for 19 yards and caught three of four targets for 24 yards in Sunday's 41-21 loss to the Texans. Gibson got 13 of the 17 carries by Patriots running backs prior to the final drive in Rhamondre Stevenson's (foot) absence, but the Texans weren't scared at all of rookie quarterback Drake Maye's arm in Maye's first NFL start and focused on shutting down the Gibson-led running game. That approach limited Gibson to a pitiful 1.5 yards per carry and could serve as a blueprint for Jacksonville's defense in Week 7, though the 1-5 Jaguars are unlikely to execute nearly as well when they face the Patriots in London. If Stevenson sits again, Gibson would have a nice opportunity to bounce back as the lead back against a Jacksonville defense that's surrendering 29.7 points per game.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Sleeper RBs

Rhamondre Stevenson (foot) has been ruled out for Week 6 against Houston, which makes Gibson worth using as a flex option in all leagues. It won't be easy for Gibson to have success against the Texans, who are No. 7 in fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs. But Aaron Jones in Week 3 (25.8 PPR points) and James Cook in Week 5 (17.9 PPR points) have had success against Houston in the past three games, and hopefully Gibson can follow suit. The Patriots offense is dismal, but they have helped Stevenson score at least 17.0 PPR points in three of five games this season. And with Drake Maye making his first NFL start against Houston, the rookie will hopefully inject some life into New England's offense as well. He should lean on Gibson as a receiver out of the backfield, and hopefully, Gibson can take advantage of this opportunity with Stevenson out.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Set for more work with Stevenson out

Gibson is in line for a larger workload Sunday against the Texans with Rhamondre Stevenson (foot) ruled out for the contest, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports. Gibson thus should earn a second consecutive start, but he also won't have to worry about Stevenson taking some of the backfield reps this time around due to the latter's foot injury. Through five contests this season, Gibson has averaged 8.6 touches per game, so it's unclear how many more reps he may be able to handle in the Patriots offense. On the other hand, Sunday also will mark Drake Maye's first career start, meaning the game plan may be more ground-based to alleviate pressure on the rookie quarterback. In the end, Gibson is poised to handle a healthy portion of New England's RB snaps and may have to contend with only JaMycal Hasty and practice-squad members Kevin Harris and Terrell Jennings for touches.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Contrarian DFS Play

Gibson is a great contrarian play if Rhamondre Stevenson is able to play in Week 6. If now, Gibson and Brown form a superb tandem as a cheap backfield that you can stack star wide receivers around. The Texans have a good defense, but they have given up a touchdown to a back in four of five games this season.
