  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Could start Sunday

Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said Wednesday that having Gibson start over Rhamondre Stevenson in Sunday's game against the Dolphins is "under consideration" due to Stevenson's fumbling issues, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

Stevenson has started each of the Patriots' first four games, carrying 65 times for 267 yards and two touchdowns but coughing up the ball four times. Given Stevenson's recent ball-security issues, Gibson -- who has logged 29 carries for 155 yards thus far -- is a candidate to see added snaps, possibly in a starting role. In such a scenario, Gibson represents a possible lineup option for those in need of help at running back Week 5.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Rips off big reception

Gibson rushed six times for 12 yards and caught three of four targets for 67 yards in Sunday's 30-13 loss to San Francisco.

Gibson got some work late in Sunday's lopsided loss after starter Rhamondre Stevenson fumbled for the second time in as many weeks. The veteran backup made his mark on the contest with a 50-yard reception in the fourth quarter. While Gibson outperformed Stevenson on a per-touch basis, he still trailed the latter by nine combined touches on the day. The former Washington Commander has generated some deep-league appeal with a couple of standout performances, but a change in roles would be necessary for Gibson to become a weekly starter in fantasy.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Eight touches in Week 3

Gibson rushed five times for 29 yards and secured all three targets for eight yards in the Patriots' 24-3 loss to the Jets on Thursday night.

Gibson logged one fewer carry than Rhamondre Stevenson but outgained him by six rushing yards. Gibson was also the only one of the two involved in the passing game, albeit to a modest degree. Gibson's downturn was notable considering he'd posted 96 rushing yards just four days earlier against Seattle, but New England's offense as a whole was held in check Thursday night. Gibson will look to bounce back in a Week 4 road battle against the 49ers on Sunday, Sept. 29.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Effective as rusher in Week 2

Gibson rushed the ball 11 times for 96 yards in Sunday's 23-20 overtime loss to the Seahawks. He added one reception on one target for seven yards.

When Gibson landed with New England this offseason, it was expected that he would serve as the team's primary pass catcher out of the backfield. Through two games, he has only one reception, but he has made his mark as a rusher. On Sunday, his highlight reel play came midway through the fourth quarter when he evaded penetration in the backfield and broke free for a 45-yard run -- the Patriots' longest play from scrimmage on the day. Rhamondre Stevenson is still the clear lead back in New England, but Gibson has proven to be a key piece of the offense early on.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Cleared to face Seahawks

Gibson (hip) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Seahawks.

Gibson began the week with a pair of limited practices, but he was removed from the injury report Friday and practiced without limitations. After notching seven carries for 18 yards in his Patriots debut last week, Gibson will reprise his role as a change-of-pace option behind Rhamondre Stevenson in Week 2.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Limited in practice Wednesday

Gibson (hip) was listed as a limited participant at Wednesday's practice.

A hip issue limited Gibson this past Thursday and Friday, but he suited up for the Patriots' Week 1 win over the Bengals on Sunday, carrying seven times for 18 yards while logging 14 snaps in a complementary role behind top back Rhamondre Stevenson. With no reported setbacks, Gibson's listed limitations Wednesday may have been maintenance-related.
