Player Outlook
Sims signed with Las Vegas this offseason, and he'll compete for a role as a reserve receiver for the Raiders. Most likely, Sims will be buried on the depth chart in Las Vegas behind Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers and Hunter Renfrow, and Sims isn't expected to post consistent production. He's not worth drafting in the majority of Fantasy leagues, and Sims has never averaged more than 5.3 PPR points per game in a season after spending the first five years of his career in Washington.

  • Cam Sims: Joins Giants' practice squad

The Giants signed Sims to their practice squad Monday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports. Less than a week after being released by the Raiders, Sims has already found another opportunity with a new team. The 27-year-old wideout drew 18 targets in 17 games with Washington in 2022.

  • Cam Sims: Cut loose by Raiders

Sims was released by Las Vegas on Tuesday. Sims spent five seasons as a depth receiver in Washington before signing a deal with the Raiders in March. However, the 27-year-old was not able to break through during his time with Las Vegas this preseason, and he'll once again become an unrestricted free agent ahead of the 2023 campaign. Sims recorded eight receptions (on 18 targets) for 89 yards across 17 appearances with the Commanders last season.

  • Raiders' Cam Sims: Heading to Vegas

Sims agreed to a contract with the Raiders on Monday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports. Sims will try to carve out a larger role in Vegas after being buried on the depth chart in Washington since 2018. The 27-year-old wide receiver had eight catches last season.

  • Commanders' Cam Sims: Suiting up Sunday night

Sims (back) has been ruled active for Sunday Night Football against the Giants. Sims will suit up for his 14th game of the season despite being limited in each practice Week 15 with a back injury. He'll likely continue to slot in alongside Dax Milne as Washington's No. 5 and No. 6 receivers in this pivotal divisional matchup.

  • Commanders' Cam Sims: Questionable with back injury

Sims (back) is considered questionable to play in Week 15 against the Giants, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. Sims was limited in practice all week while dealing with a back injury, placing uncertainty on his availability for Sunday's matchup with New York. If he's unable to go, the wide receiver's absence wouldn't carry much of an impact on the Commanders' offensive game plan.

  • Commanders' Cam Sims: Ranks fifth in receiver snaps

Sims played nine snaps on offense and went without a target in Sunday's 19-13 win over the Falcons. For the first time since Week 4, Sims failed to draw a look in the passing game. With all of Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, Curtis Samuel and Dyami Brown available to the Commanders, Sims' opportunities to contribute at receiver will likely be few and far between over the final six weeks of the season.

  • Commanders' Cam Sims: Held to one catch

Sims caught his lone target for 12 yards in Sunday's 20-17 loss to Minnesota. Sims played 44 percent of snaps on offense, after four straight games at 59 percent or higher. It didn't make much difference in the final stat line, with this being his fifth week in a row with exactly one reception, though he did it on two targets rather than one the previous four times. Dyami Brown and Dax Milne also have gotten some playing time while Jahan Dotson (hamstring) has been on the shelf, and whatever slight opportunity Sims currently has will evaporate if Dotson, Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel are all healthy at the same time. It remains to be seen if Dotson can return for Week 10 at the Eagles or Week 11 at Houston.

  • Commanders' Cam Sims: Targeted twice on 49 snaps

Sims played 80 percent of the offensive snaps in Sunday's 17-16 win over Indianapolis, catching one of two targets for 21 yards. With Jahan Dotson (hamstring) out for a fourth straight game and Dyami Brown (groin) inactive as well, Sims made his second start of the season and topped a 50 percent snap share for a fourth straight game. It's the third year in a row injuries higher up on the depth chart have allowed Sims to make multiple starts, and per usual he's near the bottom of the league in targets per route/snap, having yet to see more than two passes in a game even with all the playing time. Expectations should remain low if he gets another start in Week 9 against Minnesota.

  • Commanders' Cam Sims: Playing limited snaps

Sims didn't draw a target while playing four snaps on offense in Sunday's 25-10 loss to Dallas. Sims has drawn single-digit snaps in each of Washington's first four games and has thus far been held without a catch on three targets. His playing-time outlook could improve Week 5 against the Titans, as rookie wideout Jahan Dotson (hamstring) is unlikely to be available.

  • Commanders' Cam Sims: Not listed on injury report

Sims (concussion) isn't listed on Friday's injury report, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. Sims entered concussion protocols Aug. 24 and was limited at practice Wednesday and Thursday but has since been cleared for full participation. The fifth-year wideout has caught 47 of 72 targets for 688 yards and three scores over the last two seasons and is projected to be Washington's fourth wideout behind Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson and Curtis Samuel.

  • Commanders' Cam Sims: No practice yet

Sims (concussion) is not practicing Wednesday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports. Sims has been in the concussion protocol since late August. He won't be eligible to suit up for regular-season action until fully cleared, so his status for Week 1 is in legitimate danger. Dyami Brown and Dax Milne likely will handle the No. 4 wideout role versus Jacksonville on Sunday if Sims is unavailable.

  • Commanders' Cam Sims: Lands in concussion protocol

The Commanders placed Sims in concussion protocol Wednesday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. It's unclear when Sims suffered the injury, but he's had a strong camp and was expected to be Washington's top wideout behind Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel and rookie Jahan Dotson. It's unlikely Sims suits up for Saturday's preseason finale against the Ravens, but he'll have more than two weeks to be cleared for Week 1 of the regular season.

  • Commanders' Cam Sims: Locks up No. 4 spot

Sims looks to have won Washington's No. 4 receiver spot, according to Ben Standig of The Athletic It's a familiar role for Sims, who made 10 starts in 2020 and three in 2021. He owns career marks of 14.6 yards per catch and 9.7 yards per target, but with consistently low rates of targets per route. Like many oversized receivers, the 6-foot-5 Sims struggles to get open but can make contested catches and has value on special teams. In terms of fantasy potential, 2021 third-round pick Dyami Brown might be slightly more interesting as a fill-in starter, though it isn't a good sign that he's fallen behind Sims on the back end of the depth chart for a second straight year.

  • Commanders' Cam Sims: Re-signs with Washington

Sims re-signed Wednesday with the Commanders on a two-year, $3 million contract, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. Sims sticks with the only team he's ever known, having mostly served as a backup since first catching on with Washington in 2018. He made 10 starts in 2020 and finished the season with 477 yards, but then dropped to a 15-211-2 receiving line in 14 games last season (three starts). He'll likely be fourth or fifth on the wideout depth chart entering training camp this summer.

  • Commanders' Cam Sims: Finishes year with 15 catches

Sims finished the 2021 season with 15 catches for 211 yards and two touchdowns on 23 targets, making three starts in 14 games. Sims finished out the season as Washington's No. 2 receiver -- at least in terms of snaps -- for the second straight year, though this time he made only three starts instead of 10. In addition to starting seven fewer contests than in 2020, he finished with about half the receiving production in each category, apart from TDs (32-477-1 on 48 targets in 2020). The 26-year-old Sims is now scheduled for free agency this spring, and he should catch on somewhere as a depth receiver and special teams player if he doesn't re-sign with Washington first. It'll be more of a surprise if he attracts serious interest as a potential starter, given that he struggled to make his presence felt the past two years even when he got more playing time.

  • Football Team's Cam Sims: Starts, but no catches

Sims got the start and played 62 percent of offensive snaps in Sunday's 56-14 loss to Dallas, but he was unable to catch a pass on three targets. Sims caught three of four targets for 69 yards and a TD two weeks earlier in the first game against Dallas. He's since seen considerable playing time in back-to-back games, but with just one catch (for 13 yards) to show for it, he may slide back to a timeshare with the likes of Dyami Brown, DeAndre Carter and Dax Milne. There's still minimal fantasy potential for Washington pass catchers behind Terry McLaurin.

  • Football Team's Cam Sims: Tests positive for virus

Sims' placement on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday was the result of a positive test of the virus, Field Yates of ESPN reports. Washington didn't officially provide an explanation beyond Sims' placement on the list, but Yates notes that 30 of the 31 of NFL players that landed on the list Wednesday tested positive for the virus, with Jordan Ranaan of ESPN.com relaying that Giants safety Xavier McKinney was placed on the list as an unvaccinated high-risk close contact. Because Sims is vaccinated, he'll be eligible to report back to the Football Team facility so long as he's asymptomatic for a 48-hour period and tests negative for the virus on two consecutive occasions at least 24 hours apart. He'll still face an uphill battle to gain clearance for Sunday's game against the Eagles, and at the very least, he won't be able to take part in any of the Football Team's practices this week.

  • Football Team's Cam Sims: Lands on COVID list

Washington placed Sims on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday. Sims helped fill in for an injured Terry McLaurin (concussion) and finished with 3-69-1 receiving line on four targets in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Cowboys. With both wideouts now in danger of missing this weekend's game in Philadelphia, there may be an opportunity for Curtis Samuel, DeAndre Carter or Dyami Brown to take on more snaps.

  • Football Team's Cam Sims: Leads team in receiving

Sims caught three of four targets for 69 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Cowboys. Terry McLaurin (concussion) only played 33 offensive snaps, which opened the door for Sims to notch season-highs in both receptions and yards. The majority of the 6-foot-5 wideout's production came on a spectacular, 43-yard touchdown grab in the third quarter. Despite Sims' big play, Adam Humphries appeared to be the more consistent go-to guy with McLaurin out, as he led the team in both targets (seven) and receptions (four). If McLaurin is sidelined in Week 15, Sims, Humphries and DeAndre Carter are all candidates for increased snaps against the Eagles on Sunday.

  • Football Team's Cam Sims: Limited to 10 yards

Sims caught both of his targets for 10 yards in Sunday's 29-19 win over the Buccaneers. Sims had a big game against Tampa in the playoffs last year but placed just fifth in playing time among Washington's wide receivers in this one. He got 18 percent of the offensive snaps, following 21 percent share in the final game before Washington's Week 9 bye. Sims likely will stay in a reserve role for Week 11 at Carolina, though he does have starting experience and could be promoted back to the lineup eventually if DeAndre Carter struggles or gets hurt. But even then, Dax Milne took more snaps (27 percent) than Sims in Week 10, suggesting he might be next up for Washington's revolving-door WR spot if Carter doesn't last.
