Player Outlook
Henry will likely remain the No. 1 tight end for the Patriots this season, but he has competition for targets in new addition Mike Gesicki. Henry is only worth drafting with a late-round pick in tight-end premium leagues. In two seasons in New England, Henry has underperformed with 91 catches for 1,112 yards and 11 touchdowns on 134 targets, and he averaged just 6.1 PPR points per game in 2022. He should improve in 2023 with a better offensive system under new coordinator Bill O'Brien, but Gesicki should prove to be tougher competition for targets compared to Jonnu Smith. At best, Henry could be a red-zone threat for the Patriots like he was in 2021 when he scored nine touchdowns, and he averaged 9.7 PPR points per game that year. But if he plays to that level, just add him off the waiver wire.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Paces New England pass catchers

Henry recorded four receptions on five targets for 51 yards in Sunday's 38-3 loss to the Cowboys. Henry was one of the few bright spots for New England, as he led the team in targets, receptions and yards. He also accounted for three of the Patriots' longest gains of the day, which went for 21, 14 and 12 yards. Henry has at least five targets in every game this season and has topped 50 receiving yards in three of four contests.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Ties for team lead in targets

Henry caught two of five targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 15-10 win over the Jets. Henry briefly exited the game in the second half due to an undisclosed injury but was able to return, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. After finding the end zone in each of New England's first two games, Henry saw fellow tight end Pharaoh Brown score the team's only touchdown in this game. Offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien has a history of prominently featuring tight ends, and that has certainly been the case this season, though Henry faces competition for touches at the position from both Brown and Mike Gesicki. Henry's five targets tied wide receiver Kendrick Bourne for the team lead, and he should remain among the top targets for Mac Jones in Week 4 against Dallas.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Start Him (Lineup Decisions)

Henry has a safe PPR floor of 10 points -- he's grabbed at least five passes in each game and should be in line for that amount if the Patriots don't suddenly find success on the ground. Not many tight ends have that same floor, so he's a starter who feels safer for Fantasy than Sam LaPorta, David Njoku and Pat Freiermuth.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: TEs to Start

It's time to trust Henry as a starting Fantasy tight end heading into Week 3 at the Jets. Through two games, Henry has 11 catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns on 13 targets. Even without the touchdowns, Henry would still be averaging 10.5 PPR points per game. Mac Jones is leaning on Henry in the passing game, and Fantasy managers should buy into him being productive in new offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien's system. The Jets also allowed two touchdowns to the Cowboys tight ends in Week 2.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Week 3 Streamers (TE Preview)

Henry is tied for second on the Patriots with a 13.5% target share and faces a Jets defense that funnels targets away from wide receivers. There's a very real chance Henry leads New England in targets in Week 3 and he's certainly the top option if they get to the red zone. Henry may just be a starter rest of season.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Week 3 Waiver Priority List

It's time to trust Henry as a starting Fantasy tight end heading into Week 3 at the Jets. Through two games, Henry has 11 catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns on 13 targets. Even without the touchdowns, Henry would still be averaging 10.5 PPR points per game. Mac Jones is leaning on Henry in the passing game, and Fantasy managers should buy into him being productive in new offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien's system. He's worth adding for at least 10 percent of your remaining FAB.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Tallies another score Sunday

Henry caught six of seven targets for 52 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Dolphins. Henry has now topped 50 receiving yards with a touchdown in each of his first two games this season. The 28-year-old tallied only two scores over 17 games last year, but he's in position to be a relevant option in fantasy leagues after matching that total through two games in 2023. Henry will attempt to keep his strong start rolling against the Jets next Sunday.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Sneaky Sleeper (Lineup Decisions)

Because it's unlikely the Patriots will build a lead and sit on it with the run, Henry has a pretty good shot at having a favorable game script against a Dolphins defense that won't tailor their game plan to shutting him down. There's always trepidation in starting an unreliable Fantasy player the week after he goes off for a big game, but the sad, cold reality of Fantasy Football in 2023 is that any tight end with a scintilla of hope for 11 PPR points is a borderline must-start. Pivot to Henry if you started Cole Kmet, Chig Okonkwo or Dalton Schultz in Week 1.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Week 2 Waiver Priority List

We'll see what happens with Mike Gesicki moving forward, and DeVante Parker (knee) and Tyquan Thornton (shoulder) were also absent for Week 1 against the Eagles. But Henry looked solid with five catches for 56 yards and a touchdown on six targets. Now, I'm not sure how often the Patriots will attempt 54 passes, but it's good to see Henry being productive again in Bill O'Brien's offense. In deeper leagues, add Henry for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Solid involvement in offense

Henry recorded five receptions on six targets for 56 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 25-20 loss to the Eagles. Henry benefitted from a game script that required New England to take to the air, in combination with the absence of both Tyquan Thornton (shoulder) and DeVante Paker (knee). Each of those factors inflated Henry's line to some degree, though he still out-targeted Mike Gesicki. Most importantly, Henry saw opportunity in the red zone and took advantage with a nine-yard touchdown catch late in the second quarter. He should keep a consistent role in the New England offense, but his fantasy viability will come down to his ability to continue to find the end zone.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Cleared for Week 1

Henry didn't appear on the Patriots' Week 1 injury report released Wednesday. The Patriots should have both of their top two tight ends available for Sunday's season opener versus the Eagles, as Mike Gesicki had previously been managing a shoulder injury but is also off the Week 1 injury report. Though the Patriots could implement something of a timeshare betwen Henry and Gesicki, the two may frequently be deployed together in two-tight end sets. The arrangement could allow both players to yield some degree of fantasy utility in 2023.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Not suiting up Friday

Henry isn't in line to play in Friday's preseason game at Tennessee, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports. Henry will make just one appearance during exhibition season last Saturday in Green Bay, where he didn't haul in his only target while playing 16 snaps on offense. Fellow tight end Mike Gesicki (shoulder) also won't suit up Friday, meaning the Patriots will go with Anthony Firkser, Matt Sokol, Scotty Washington and Johnny Lumpkin at tight end. Henry's next chance to play is a Week 1 matchup with the Eagles on Sunday, Sept. 10.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Emerging as red-zone target

Henry has been QB Mac Jones' "go-to-guy in the red zone" during training camp, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. While Henry has some new competition for targets in the form of free-agent addition Mike Gesicki, the 28-year-old Henry has been making plays in training camp, especially around the end zone, per Mark Daniels of Masslive.com. Although the Patriots list Henry at 258 pounds, the tight end indicates that he approached this summer weighing somewhere around the high 240s, and it looks like he's playing faster, per Daniels. Though the presence of Gesicki figures to impact Henry's target volume, there figures to be room for both players to maintain a degree of fantasy utility, and in Henry's case that could be especially so in TD-friendly formats.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Has new competition for targets

Henry and free-agent addition Mike Gesicki are in line to head the Patriots' tight end corps this coming season, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. Since signing a three-year deal with New England in March 2021, Henry had been working in a timeshare with Jonnu Smith. With Smith having recently been traded to the Falcons, however, the Patriots elected to bolster their tight end corps by inking Gesicki to a one-year pact worth up to $9 million. In that context, Henry will continue to share snaps and targets in 2023, and, given Gesicki's upside as a pass catcher, Henry's week-to-week volume figures to fluctuate this season when both players are available. In 2022, Henry recorded 41 catches on 59 targets for 509 yards and two touchdowns (down from nine scores in 2021) in 17 games. Looking ahead, the 2016 second-rounder's fantasy utility while working in tandem with Gesicki could end up hinging on his level of red-zone usage.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Finishes season with 41 catches

Henry finished the 2022 season with 41 catches on 59 targets for 509 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games. For the second consecutive season, Henry -- who missed his share of time during his five-year stint with the Chargers -- managed to play all of his team's games. From a volume standpoint, the 2016 second-rounder's production took a modest dip from the 50 catches for 603 yards on 75 targets he logged in 2021, but it was Henry's drop from nine to two TDs that resulted in his overall fantasy utility taking a big hit. The 28-year-old's contract runs through next season, and Henry will once again be in line to work in a tight end time-share with Jonnu Smith, who is signed with the team through 2024.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Boost in production Sunday

Henry (knee) secured five of six targets for 52 yards in the Patriots' 23-21 win over the Dolphins on Sunday. With position mate Jonnu Smith (concussion) sidelined, Henry saw an uptick in volume and made good use of it. The veteran tight end's reception and receiving yardage totals were both second on the team for the afternoon, and his catch tally was a season high as well. Henry could be in for another expanded role in a critical Week 18 road matchup against the Bills, especially if Smith remains out of action.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Listed as active Sunday

Henry (knee) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. With fellow tight end Jonnu Smith (concussion) inactive Sunday, Henry has an opportunity to log added snaps and targets versus Miami. In that context, the 2016 second-rounder -- who has put up a 30/415/2 stat line in 15 games thus far -- is in a position to see enough volume to merit fantasy lineup consideration in Week 17.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Slated to suit up Sunday

Henry (knee) is expected to play Sunday versus the Dolphins, Dan Graziano of ESPN.com reports. Henry departed the Patriots' first drive of a Week 16 matchup with the Bengals with a knee injury and was unable to return. He ended up being limited at all three practices of Week 17 prep, entering the weekend as questionable. Now, Henry appears as if he'll be active Sunday, something that'll be confirmed about 90 minutes before a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.

  • Patriots' Hunter Henry: Listed as questionable for Week 17

Henry (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins after practicing in a limited fashion this week, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports. Henry's status is worth confirming ahead of Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff, but if the tight end is available, he'd have a path to added snaps and targets versus Miami with Jonnu Smith (concussion) having been ruled out. In that context, Henry would have a decent chance to yield fantasy utility in Week 17 fantasy lineups.
