Patriots' Hunter Henry: Has new competition for targets
Henry and free-agent addition Mike Gesicki are in line to head the Patriots' tight end corps this coming season, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
Since signing a three-year deal with New England in March 2021, Henry had been working in a timeshare with Jonnu Smith. With Smith having recently been traded to the Falcons, however, the Patriots elected to bolster their tight end corps by inking Gesicki to a one-year pact worth up to $9 million. In that context, Henry will continue to share snaps and targets in 2023, and, given Gesicki's upside as a pass catcher, Henry's week-to-week volume figures to fluctuate this season when both players are available. In 2022, Henry recorded 41 catches on 59 targets for 509 yards and two touchdowns (down from nine scores in 2021) in 17 games. Looking ahead, the 2016 second-rounder's fantasy utility while working in tandem with Gesicki could end up hinging on his level of red-zone usage.

Patriots' Hunter Henry: Finishes season with 41 catches
Henry finished the 2022 season with 41 catches on 59 targets for 509 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games.
For the second consecutive season, Henry -- who missed his share of time during his five-year stint with the Chargers -- managed to play all of his team's games. From a volume standpoint, the 2016 second-rounder's production took a modest dip from the 50 catches for 603 yards on 75 targets he logged in 2021, but it was Henry's drop from nine to two TDs that resulted in his overall fantasy utility taking a big hit. The 28-year-old's contract runs through next season, and Henry will once again be in line to work in a tight end time-share with Jonnu Smith, who is signed with the team through 2024.

Patriots' Hunter Henry: Boost in production Sunday
Henry (knee) secured five of six targets for 52 yards in the Patriots' 23-21 win over the Dolphins on Sunday.
With position mate Jonnu Smith (concussion) sidelined, Henry saw an uptick in volume and made good use of it. The veteran tight end's reception and receiving yardage totals were both second on the team for the afternoon, and his catch tally was a season high as well. Henry could be in for another expanded role in a critical Week 18 road matchup against the Bills, especially if Smith remains out of action.

Patriots' Hunter Henry: Listed as active Sunday
Henry (knee) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
With fellow tight end Jonnu Smith (concussion) inactive Sunday, Henry has an opportunity to log added snaps and targets versus Miami. In that context, the 2016 second-rounder -- who has put up a 30/415/2 stat line in 15 games thus far -- is in a position to see enough volume to merit fantasy lineup consideration in Week 17.
