The Dolphins declined Igbinoghene's fifth-year option Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Igbinoghene has struggled during his first three years in the NFL, as he's logged only 29 tackles (25 solo) and a single interception in just five starts. The 2020 first-round pick has found himself buried on the depth chart and played only 56 defensive snaps over the team's final nine games last season. With the Dolphins adding three new cornerbacks during the offseason in Jalen Ramsey, Cam Smith and Keion Crossen, Igbinoghene might have an even harder time getting onto the field during the 2023 campaign.
Igbinoghene had four tackles (three solo), one pass breakup and one interception during Sunday night's 16-10 win over the Steelers.
Igbinoghene's toe-tapping interception came on the Steelers' last play of the game, when he picked off Kenny Pickett in the end zone to seal a win for Miami. The 2020 first-round pick was able to provide a much-needed spark for Miami's depleted secondary, which also saw safety Brandon Jones (knee) depart the Week 7 win early. With Byron Jones (ankle) still on the PUP list, Igbinoghene could be in line for another increased defensive role Week 7 versus the Lions.

Igbinoghene popped up on the injury report after he was limited in practice Friday, signaling that he sustained a late-week knee injury. If he's unavailable against Atlanta, Elijah Campbell and Trill Williams could see a slight uptick in playing time.

The Dolphins selected Igbinoghene in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, 30th overall.
Igbinoghene (5-foot-10, 198) played corner at Auburn after switching from wide receiver in 2018. With Byron Jones and Xavien Howard already drawing top dollar at corner in Miami, it's possible that the Dolphins might envision Igbinoghene as a corner-safety crossover, perhaps like Brian Flores utilized Devin McCourty in New England. If he plays at safety, then Igbinoghene could be a dark horse for IDP utility.
