  • Commanders' Curtis Hodges: Healthy scratch again

Hodges (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Broncos. Hodges was able to land a spot on the 53-man roster as the No. 4 tight end, but he'll be a healthy inactive for the second straight week. His next opportunity to play will be Week 3 against the Bills.

  • Commanders' Curtis Hodges: Earns roster spot

Hodges has a spot on Washington's initial 53-man roster, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports. Hodges made an impression last summer as an undrafted rookie before a thigh injury sent him to injured reserve at the beginning of September. Coach Ron Rivera said Wednesday that he views Hodges as a rookie after the lost 2022 season, so the Commanders may be patient and give the 6-foot-8 24-year-old some time to develop behind Logan Thomas (calf), John Bates and Cole Turner.

Hodges suffered a hamstring injury in Friday's practice, John Keim of ESPN.com reports. The second-year undrafted free agent is competing for a depth job behind veterans Logan Thomas and John Bates and 2022 fifth-rounder Cole Turner. Hodges' chances at a roster spot improved with the season-ending Achilles injury to Armani Rogers.

  • Commanders' Curtis Hodges: Healthy for 2023

Hodges has been an active participant at the Commanders' OTAs this spring. Hodges went down with a thigh injury last September and failed to appear in a game during his rookie season, but he looks ready to go for 2023. The 23-year-old is expected to compete with the likes of John Bates and Cole Turner for backup reps behind starting tight end Logan Thomas this year.

  • Commanders' Curtis Hodges: Practice window opens

The Commanders designated Hodges (thigh) to return from injured reserve Tuesday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. Hodges has been on injured reserve with a thigh issue ever since the beginning of September, but Tuesday now marks the start of the 21-day window for Washington to activate the undrafted rookie back to its active roster. With both Armani Rogers (knee) and Eli Wolf (undisclosed) currently on injured reserve, Hodges has a decent chance to insert himself into the tight end rotation alongside Logan Thomas and John Bates.

  • Commanders' Curtis Hodges: Headed to IR

Hodges (thigh) was placed on the Commanders' injured reserve Thursday. Hodges sat out Washington's last two preseason games after picking up an apparent thigh injury at some point this August. The rookie tight end will now have to wait until at least Week 5 of the regular season before making his NFL debut.
