  • Ian Book: Resurfaces on practice squad

The Eagles re-signed Book to the practice squad Thursday. Philadelphia had waived Book on Tuesday, but he now reunites with the team as an emergency depth option at quarterback. With Jalen Hurts (concussion) and Kenny Pickett (ribs) unavailable for the Eagles' regular-season finale, Book got a chance to work as the team's top backup behind Tanner McKee against the Giants, though he didn't play any snaps. Hurts and Pickett are both working to gain clearance in time for Sunday's wild-card contest versus the Packers.

  • Ian Book: Let go by Philadelphia

The Eagles waived Book on Tuesday. Book was signed to the Eagles' practice squad Dec. 26 before being signed to the active roster two days later due to injuries to Jalen Hurts (concussion) and Kenny Pickett (ribs). Book ended up serving as the Eagles' backup quarterback behind Tanner McKee against the Giants on Sunday, though the former didn't play a snap in the regular-season finale. Book could be back on the practice squad in case Hurts is unable to clear the league's concussion protocols in time for Sunday's wild-card round game against the Packers.

  • Eagles' Ian Book: Serving as emergency QB in Week 17

Book (coach's decision) is inactive and has been deemed Philadelphia's emergency third quarterback Sunday versus Dallas. Book was signed to the active roster Saturday after Jalen Hurts was ruled out for Week 17 due to a concussion. Kenny Pickett will be the Eagles' starting signal-caller Sunday, while Tanner McKee is set to work as his backup. Book will be able to enter the game only if both Pickett and McKee are unavailable due to injury, illness or ejection.

  • Eagles' Ian Book: Promoted to active roster

The Eagles signed Book to the active roster from their practice squad Saturday, Zach Berman of The Athletic reports. Book failed to make the Chiefs' 53-man roster at the end of training camp and has spent most of 2024 without a team. He signed with the Eagles' practice squad earlier in the week due to Jalen Hurts (concussion) and Kenny Pickett (ribs) both dealing with injuries. Hurts has been ruled out, and Pickett will play through it as the starter Week 17, so Tanner McKee and Book will serve as the backup options under center.

  • Ian Book: Signed to Eagles' practice squad

Philadelphia signed Book to the practice squad Thursday. Book spent most of 2024 without a team after failing to make the Chiefs' 53-man roster at the end of training camp. Book's addition to the Eagles' practice squad provides insurance at the quarterback position as starter Jalen Hurts (concussion) and backup Kenny Pickett (ribs) are both dealing with injuries, leaving Tanner McKee as the only healthy QB on the 53-man roster. Book could be elevated to the active roster for Sunday's game against the Cowboys if one or both of Hurts or Pickett were inactive. Book has appeared in just one game at the NFL level since being selected by the Saints in the fourth round of the 2021 draft.

  • Chiefs' Ian Book: Lands reserve/future deal with KC

The Chiefs signed book to a reserve/future contract Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Book was drafted by New Orleans in the fourth round of the 2021 Draft and played one regular-season game with the Saints, completing 12 of 20 passes for 135 yards and two interceptions while adding six yards on three carries in a 2021 contest against Miami. The reserve/future contract doesn't give the quarterback eligibility for the upcoming postseason, but it will allow Book the opportunity to compete for a roster spot in training camp this summer.

  • Eagles' Ian Book: Primed for backup role Week 16

Book is expected to dress as the backup quarterback behind starter Gardner Minshew with Jalen Hurts (shoulder) ruled out for Saturday's game in Dallas, Dave Spadaro of the Eagles' official site reports. Since the Eagles claimed him off waivers from the Saints in late August, Book has yet to suit up in a game this season while both Hurts and Minshew have been healthy up to this point. Book will finally get the opportunity to don a Philadelphia uniform Saturday, but he likely won't be called upon from the bench unless Minshew suffers an in-game injury or if the game turns non-competitive.

  • Eagles' Ian Book: Claimed by Eagles

Book was claimed off waivers by the Eagles on Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports. Book will join the Eagles' quarterback room after being waived by the Saints on Tuesday. The 24-year-old will enter the season as the team's third option behind Jalen Hurts and Gardner Minshew.

  • Saints' Ian Book: Officially starting Monday

Book will start Monday against the Dolphins after the Saints didn't activate Taysom Hill (illness) or Trevor Siemian (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of the contest, Katherine Terrell of The Athletic reports. Both Hill and Siemian were placed on the COVID-19 list Thursday following positive tests for the virus, setting Book up for his first regular-season action in the NFL. A fourth-round rookie, Book has made just one appearance as a pro, back in the preseason when he completed nine of 16 attempts for 126 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. He did show some mobility at the collegiate level at Notre Dame, averaging 4.2 yards per carry and scoring 17 TDs on the ground in 45 appearances. Meanwhile, Blake Bortles has been elevated from the practice squad to serve as the Saints' Week 16 backup QB.

  • Saints' Ian Book: Remains inactive

Book (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's contest against the Eagles, Mike Triplett of ESPN.com reports. After Jameis Winston tore his ACL, Book was bumped up to the No. 3 quarterback on the depth chart behind Trevor Siemian and Taysom Hill. However, he continues to garner healthy scratches and is likely operating as simply an emergency option in case something happens to the aforementioned quarterbacks. Book boasts an intriguing skillset, but he will likely need more tutelage from Sean Payton before he is ready to lead an NFL offense.
