  • Jason Huntley: Let go by Indianapolis

Huntley was cut from the Colts' practice squad Tuesday. This move comes in wake of the team signing running back Tyler Goodson to its practice squad the same day. Huntley has spent time with Philadelphia and Pittsburgh throughout his three-year career, appearing in six games and recording 70 rushing yards on 18 attempts. The 25-year-old's last in-game action came in 2021.

  • Jason Huntley: Signs with Indy's practice squad

Huntley was brought onto the Colts' practice squad Wednesday, Joel A. Erickson of IndyStar reports. With Jonathan Taylor (ankle) set to miss at least four games on the PUP list and Zack Moss (arm) uncertain for Week 1, Huntley may not have to wait long to get his chance. The Colts also kept Deon Jackson and Evan Hull on the 53-man roster over Huntley.

  • Jason Huntley: Parts ways with Colts

Indianapolis is slated to waive Huntley on Tuesday, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports. Huntley becomes a candidate to reunite with the Colts via the practice squad, especially if a deal to trade Jonathan Taylor (ankle) does eventually emerge. The former New Mexico State standout suited up for five games with the Eagles from 2020-21.

  • Colts' Jason Huntley: Lands in Indy

Huntley signed a contract with Indianapolis on Wednesday. After finishing the past season on Pittsburgh's practice squad, the 2020 fifth-round pick was recently waived by the Steelers. The Colts are thin at running back heading into the preseason with Jonathan Taylor (ankle) on the PUP list, Zack Moss out with a broken arm, and Deon Jackson missing practice this week due to an undisclosed injury. Huntley could get work in preseason games as a result, but he's still a long shot to make the final roster. Given the fluidity in the Indianapolis backfield, however, anything seems possible.

  • Steelers' Jason Huntley: Inks reserve/future contract

The Steelers signed Huntley to a reserve/future contract Tuesday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports. Huntley spent the preseason with Philadelphia before being waived as part of the team's final roster cuts in late August. The third-year running back then spent time on and off the Steelers' practice squad before finishing the season on this practice squad. In six career games, Huntley has recorded 18 carries for 70 yards, and he'll now look to carve out a role on the active roster heading into the 2023 campaign.

  • Jason Huntley: Back on Pittsburgh's practice squad

Pittsburgh re-signed Huntley to its practice squad Tuesday, Teresa Varley of Steelers.com reports. Huntley began the 2022 campaign on the Steelers' practice squad but was cut last Wednesday. He's now returned to the organization, but barring an injury to Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren or Benny Snell, Huntley is unlikely to be elevated to the active roster.

  • Jason Huntley: Joins Steelers' practice squad

The Steelers signed Huntley to their practice squad Friday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports. Huntley was waived by the Eagles during the NFL's recent wave of roster cuts, but the 2020 fifth-round pick will now provide Pittsburgh with added running back depth and is a candidate for a promotion to the active roster should injuries hit the team's backfield.

  • Jason Huntley: Waived by Eagles

Huntley was waived by the Eagles on Monday, Mike Kaye of The Newark Star-Ledger reports. Huntley will be let go as a part of the team's final cuts ahead of the 2022 season. The running back has been utilized as a return specialist this preseason and could fill that role for another team.

  • Eagles' Jason Huntley: Set for heavy workload

With Boston Scott (concussion) and Kenneth Gainwell (hip) out, Huntley is expected to garner a heavy workload during Friday's preseason opener against the Jets, Bo Wulf of The Athletic reports. Miles Sanders may play a series or two, but Huntley will likely see the large majority of snaps at running back Friday. Wulf also notes that undrafted rookie Kennedy Brooks will get mixed in too, but Huntley has the higher upside. The 2020 fifth-round pick appeared in one game for the Eagles last season, totaling 51 rushing yards on 13 attempts.

  • Eagles' Jason Huntley: Inactive Sunday

Huntley is inactive for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. With Miles Sanders back from his hand injury, Huntley is the odd man out Sunday, while Boston Scott, Jordan Howard and Kenneth Gainwell are also in the backfield mix for the Eagles' playoff opener.

  • Jason Huntley: Lands on practice squad COVID list

Huntley was placed on the Eagles' practice squad COVID-19 list Monday. Huntley will need to produce back-to-back negative tests at least 24 hours apart or complete a 10-day quarantine before he is able to return to team facilities. The second-year pro hasn't appeared in any games for the Eagles this season, so his potential absence shouldn't affect their gameday plans.

  • Eagles' Jason Huntley: Injures ribs, listed as day-to-day

Huntley is listed as day-to-day with a ribs injury, Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com reports. Huntley evidently injured his ribs during Thursday's preseason loss to the Eagles, but the second-year back still managed to touch the ball five times, not including a 30-yard run that was called back due to penalty. The fact that he's listed as day-to-day is certainly a good sign as he competes with a number of other backs for one of the team's final roster spots.

  • Eagles' Jason Huntley: Leads team in carries and yards

Huntley's performance in Thursday's preseason loss to the Steelers seems to have given him an advantage in pursuit of one of the Eagles' final running back roster spots, E.J. Smith of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Huntley carried the ball four times for 15 yards and caught one of three targets for four yards in Thursday's 24-16 preseason loss to the Steelers. He returned a kick 35 yards and also had a 30-yard run called back due to penalty. The 23-year-old has garnered praise for the strides he's made in camp thus far, showcasing his playmaking ability and improvement as a pass blocker. He's battling Jordan Howard and rookie Kenneth Gainwell for one of two likely places on the team, while Kerryon Johnson currently seems to have fallen behind.

  • Eagles' Jason Huntley: Standing out in camp

Huntley has shown great improvement over his rookie season so far in training camp, Mike Kaye of NJ.com reports. Huntley has flashed his trademark speed in practice and apparently has made a fan of quarterback Jalen Hurts. Fellow running back (and competitor for a roster spot) Kerryon Johnson raved about the 23-year-old's development in pass protection drills, as well. The New Mexico State product also boasts ability in the return game and could carve out a niche for himself there. Huntley still has an uphill battle with Johnson, Kenneth Gainwell and Jordan Howard for one of two roster spots behind Miles Sanders and Boston Scott, however.

  • Eagles' Jason Huntley: Sitting out Sunday

Huntley (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game versus the Rams. Huntley made his NFL debut in Week 1 against Washington, but with Miles Sanders returning from a hamstring injury, Huntley will watch from the sidelines Sunday.

  • Lions' Jason Huntley: Impressing between the tackles

Huntley impressed as a between-the-tackles runner during Saturday's scrimmage, Rob Beard of The Detroit News reports. Given the presence of Kerryon Johnson, D'Andre Swift and Bo Scarbrough, a role in the passing game remains Huntley's easiest path toward seeing the field on offense in 2020. However, Saturday's performance suggests it might not be accurate to pigeon-hole the 5-foot-9 rookie as a scatback, especially after Huntley topped 1,000 yards rushing at 7.1 yards per carry during his final season at New Mexico State in 2019. Should the injury bug strike the top of the depth chart, it's seemingly increasingly possible Huntley could gain fantasy relevance at some point this year.

  • Lions' Jason Huntley: Competing for offensive role

General manager Bob Quinn suggested Huntley will be in direct competition with Ty Johnson for a role in the backfield, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports. "...Huntley will be our smallest guy, but he's extremely fast. So [I'm] very confident that we'll find a role for him, and he is going to be in competition with Ty Johnson." Detroit took Johnson in the sixth round ahead of the 2019 campaign, but the Maryland product ultimately left something to be desired as a change-of-pace back. It sounds like Huntley will now get a chance to push Johnson for his depth role, and Twentyman thinks it's also possible for Huntley to handle some of the passing-down responsibilities the Lions gave J.D. McKissic last year. However, with 2018 second-rounder Kerryon Johnson and 2019 breakout runner Bo Scarbrough now joined atop the depth chart by 2020 second-rounder D'Andre Swift, Huntley may need an injury or an extremely impressive offseason to earn meaningful offensive snaps as a rookie.

  • Lions' Jason Huntley: Detroit snags in fifth round

The Lions selected Huntley in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, 172nd overall. Huntley (5-foot-8, 190) is a small running back out of New Mexico State, but he has real skills to work with as an off-the-bench firecracker. As much as the Lions' running back rotation is remarkably small in the light of Huntley's addition, few players possess open-field running skills like his. Huntley torched opponents for 1,090 yards and nine touchdowns on just 154 carries (7.1 YPC)last year , and he scored five touchdowns on kick returns in his career. Huntley went on to run a 4.40-second 40, 39.5-inch vertical and 131-inch broad jump, demonstrating legitimate NFL explosiveness despite his light frame. Unfortunately, it's hard to see him playing many running back snaps behind D'Andre Swift and Kerryon Johnson.
