  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Sticking with Buffalo

Johnson is re-signing with Buffalo on a one-year contract, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports. The 2019 sixth-round pick played in 18 games for the Lions and 44 for the Jets before landing in Buffalo last year. Johnson then spent the first month and a half of the 2023 season on the practice squad, eventually getting a promotion after Damien Harris suffered a season-ending head/neck injury in mid-October. By the end of the year, Johnson had eclipsed Latavius Murray as the team's No. 2 RB, getting 15 carries and three targets for 80 total yards in two playoff games. He'll now stick in Buffalo, where James Cook and Darrynton Evans are the only other RBs under contract at the start of the 2024 league year.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Works way up depth chart in 2023

Johnson gained 132 rushing yards on 30 carries (4.4 yards per rush) and caught all seven of his targets for 62 yards and a touchdown in 10 regular-season games this season. Earlier in the season, the veteran RB saw most of his action on special teams, but by the time the Bills got to their playoff run, Johnson had climbed over an injured Damien Harris (head/neck), a freshly signed Leonard Fournette and an aging Latavius Murray on the depth chart. Johnson actually saw 20 carries in the playoffs, suggesting the team trusts him in its dynamic offense. The former Lion and Jet is still just 26 years old and the Bills could bring him back in a depth role behind James Cook in 2024, but Johnson will need to be re-signed in the offseason in that case.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Cleared to play vs. Steelers

Johnson (concussion) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's wild-card round game against the Steelers. Johnson was a limited participant in all three of Buffalo's practices heading into the postseason, but Sal Capaccio of WGR 550 reports that the running back has cleared concussion protocol. Johnson, Leonard Fournette and Latavius Murray are all options to spell starting running back James Cook, with Johnson profiling as the youngest and shiftiest of the three depth options.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Getting work in

Johnson (concussion) will be a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Chris Brown of the Bills Radio Network reports. Johnson suffered a concussion in Sunday's win over the Dolphins, but he seems to have made progress on some level as he navigates the five-step protocol. He'll still likely need to get in a full practice Thursday or Friday, plus he'll need to be cleared by an independent neurologist before getting the green light to suit up in Sunday's wild-card game against the Steelers.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Tests confirm concussion

Johnson (concussion) has been downgraded to out Sunday against the Dolphins. Johnson was evaluated for a head injury, and the tests revealed a concussion. He won't return to Sunday's game, so Johnson will finish the regular season with 30 carries for 132 yards, as well as seven catches on as many targets for 62 yards and a touchdown. Johnson will have to clear the NFL's five-step concussion protocol to suit up in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Evaluated for head injury Week 18

Johnson is being evaluated for a head injury Sunday against the Dolphins. Johnson was injured on a big hit just outside the end zone in the final seconds of the first half. The backup running back had one carry for five yards and caught his only target for nine yards prior to getting hurt. It remains to be seen whether he'll be able to return to the regular-season finale.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Five carries in win

Johnson rushed five times for 22 yards in Sunday's 27-21 win over the Patriots. Johnson played 13 of the Bills' 69 offensive snaps Sunday, operating as the No. 3 running back behind James Cook and Latavius Murray. In nine games this season, Johnson has now recorded just 29 carries for 127 yards with six catches for 53 yards and a touchdown. He's not seeing enough work in Buffalo's offense to be a consideration for fantasy purposes as the Bills wrap up their regular season against the Dolphins in Week 18.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Cleared to return Week 17

Johnson (shoulder) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Patriots. Johnson practiced fully Friday to gain clearance after limited sessions Wednesday and Thursday. He's set to return from a one-game absence and continue splitting the leftovers behind starting running back James Cook with Latavius Murray, though Buffalo's backfield could get even more crowded if the Bills elevate Leonard Fournette from the practice squad again.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Limited Thursday

Johnson (shoulder) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice. The 26-year-old running back missed Buffalo's Week 16 win over the Chargers with this shoulder issue, and he's now opened the team's week of practice with consecutive limited sessions. Unless Johnson is able to practice in full Friday, he'll likely carry an injury designation into the weekend.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Limited in practice again

Johnson (shoulder) was a limited practice participantt on Wednesday's walkthrough. Johnson was a limited participant all last week before ultimately being inactive for the Bills' road win over the Chargers. His absence allowed Leonard Fournette to suit up for the first time all season, albeit with minimal impact in a game in which lead back James Cook took on a career-high 75 percent snap share.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Sitting out Saturday

Johnson (shoulder) is listed as inactive Saturday at the Chargers. Johnson is sitting on the heels of his most productive game of the campaign Sunday against the Cowboys, when he notched nine carries for 54 yards and one catch (on one target) for four yards. He proceeded to be listed as limited on all three of the Bills' Week 16 practice reports due to a shoulder injury and headed into the weekend as questionable for Saturday's game. Buffalo signaled that Johnson may not be available when the team elevated Leonard Fournette earlier Saturday, and that has come to pass. As a result, Fournette and Latavius Murray will be the options to spell starting running back James Cook this week.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Could play Week 16

Johnson (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Saturday's game against the Chargers. The 26-year-old running back sustained a shoulder injury during this past Sunday's 31-10 win over the Cowboys, but he still has a chance to play against the Chargers after getting in three limited practices this week. Johnson carried a season-high nine times for 54 yards and added one catch for four yards in the blowout win over Dallas.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Remains limited Wednesday

Johnson (shoulder) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday. Johnson has now been listed as limited on both of the Bills' first two Week 16 practice reports, but he still seemingly has a good chance of suiting up this Saturday versus the Chargers. Assuming Johnson is cleared to play, he and Latavius Murray will work in change-of-pace roles behind lead back James Cook.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Limited on practice estimate

Johnson (shoulder) was listed as limited on Tuesday's estimated injury report. Johnson made a brief exit from this past Sunday's win against the Cowboys due to a shoulder injury, and he then visited the X-ray room afterward. He earned a season-high 29 percent snap share in that game and ended up notching nine carries for 54 yards and one catch (on one target) for four yards. Even if he's able to play Saturday at the Chargers, Johnson won't do much more than spell starting running back James Cook, who has reeled off five straight games with 100-plus yards from scrimmage.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Getting X-rays after Week 15 win

Johnson (shoulder) went to the X-ray room after Sunday's 31-10 win over the Cowboys, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports. Johnson was deemed questionable to return due to a shoulder injury in the second quarter but later checked back into the game. He finished with nine carries for 54 yards, as well as a four-yard catch on his only target. James Cook produced 221 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns, so Cook should continue to lead Buffalo's backfield in Week 16 against the Chargers regardless of what the X-rays on Johnson's shoulder show.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Exits game with shoulder injury

Johnson (shoulder) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Cowboys. Johnson sustained a shoulder injury in the second quarter of Sunday's game. If he remains out, Deonte Harty and Khalil Shakir are candidates to take over the kick return duties.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Seven touches against Chiefs

Johnson rushed five times for 19 yards and caught both of his targets for two yards in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Chiefs. Johnson played 15 of the Bills' 77 offensive snaps Sunday, his most in seven games this season. The veteran's seven touches in the contest were also a season high. With that said, Johnson is not seeing enough consistent usage to produce for fantasy purposes. The 26-year-old should remain far off the fantasy radar when the Bills host the Cowboys in Week 15.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Continued usage with new OC

Johnson carried six times for 19 yards and was not targeted in the passing game in Sunday's 37-34 overtime loss to the Eagles. Johnson did catch three balls -- one for a touchdown -- in Week 11, so it's not like the team views him as a one-trick pony. He's still behind James Cook and Latavious Murray in the pecking order, plus Damien Harris (neck) could eventually return before season's end, but it's at least worth noting that Johnson has been given an opportunity in the offense after previously not seeing more than one offensive snap in any game under former offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, who was fired after Week 10. With interim OC Joe Brady now in charge, Johnson has seen 24 offensive snaps over the past two weeks. While Johnson still is too far down the pecking order to consider using, he's also probably just an injury or two away from having a meaningful role in an offense that can put up a high number of points.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Week 12 Waiver Priority List

It was Johnson and not Leonard Fournette who added a new element to Buffalo's offense in Week 11 against the Jets, and we'll see if Johnson is a permanent addition to the rotation moving forward for new offensive coordinator Joe Brady. James Cook and Latavius Murray remain in the mix for the Bills, so Johnson will have limited touches, but he did well against the Jets with three carries for 11 yards and three catches for 47 yards and a touchdown on three targets. The Bills don't have an easy matchup in Week 12 at Philadelphia before a bye in Week 13, but Johnson is worth stashing in deeper leagues for 1 percent of your FAB to see what happens over the next few weeks.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Replaces Damien Harris on roster

The Bills signed Johnson to the 53-man roster Friday. He had resided on the Bills' practice squad prior to the transaction, while fellow running back Damien Harris (concussion/neck) was placed on injured reserve in a corresponding move. Johnson will provide depth in a Buffalo backfield that also includes James Cook and Latavius Murray. The running back out of Maryland has appeared in 62 NFL games and has a career average of 4.4 yards per carry.
