Tranquill is expected to sign a one-year, $5 million deal with the Chiefs on Friday, Jordan Schultz of TheScore.com reports. Per Shultz, Tranquill had a long list of suitors but decided to join the reigning Super Bowl champions on a team-friendly deal. The 2019 fourth-round pick supplanted Kenneth Murray for a starting spot with the Chargers last year and posted career highs in tackles (144) and sacks (five). It'll be hard to match that type of production playing alongside Willie Gay, Nick Bolton and Leo Chenal, but Tranquill should still garner a sizable role in Kansas City's linebacker corps.... Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Career year
Tranquill recorded 144 tackles (93 solo), five sacks, an additional five tackles for loss, a forced fumble and an interception in 17 games during the 2022-23 regular season. Tranquill had the best season of his career, setting new career highs in tackles and sacks while also registering his first career interception. The 27-year-old led the Chargers in both solo and total tackles and also finished tied for third on the team in sacks, as he supplanted Kenneth Murray for the starting job. An unrestricted free agent this offseason, Tranquill has earned himself a starting role either with the Chargers or somewhere else.... See More ... See Less -
Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Racks up nine tackles Sunday
Tranquill tallied nine tackles, including two for loss, in Sunday's 31-10 Week 17 win over the Rams. Tranquill led the Chargers in stops for the third straight week, though he fell just short of extending his streak of games with double-digit tackles to three. The fourth-year linebacker is up to 138 tackles on the campaign, 12th-most in the NFL.... See More ... See Less -
Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Logs 10 stops including sack Sunday
Tranquill recorded a sack among his 10 stops and forced a fumble in Sunday's Week 15 win over Tennessee. Tranquill made some key plays late in the game for the Chargers, stopping Derrick Henry for a two-yard gain midway through the fourth quarter and forcing the big running back to fumble. The Titans recovered the ball, but Tranquill effectively ended the drive two plays later with a sack of Ryan Tannehill. The sack was Tranquill's fourth of the campaign, and the double-digit tackle total was his fifth so far in 2022. Tranquill is already up to a career-best 118 stops through 14 contests.... Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Seven stops in close loss
Tranquill recorded seven tackles (six solo) during Sunday's 30-27 defeat to the Chiefs. Tranquill's production came back down to earth after he logged a season-high 15 tackles against the 49ers last week. However, the linebacker still tied safety Derwin James for a team high in tackles Week 12, as the Chargers' defense once again struggled to keep the Chiefs' offense in check for a full four quarters. Tranquill has now played every defensive snap in four of the Bolts' last five games, recording 33 tackles and three sacks over that span. He will look to continue his career-best campaign against the Cardinals this coming Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Solid production in loss
Tranquill notched seven tackles (four solo) and half a sack during Thursday's 27-24 loss to the Chiefs. Tranquill finished second on the team in tackles behind Derwin James and split the Chargers' only sack of the game with Khalil Mack. Across two contests, the fourth-year linebacker has produced 13 tackles, one pass defense, one interception and half a sack.... See More ... See Less -
Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Battling groin injury
Tranquill has missed the past two practices due to a groin injury, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports. Per coach Brandon Staley, the team doesn't believe Tranquill's injury is anything serious, so the linebacker will likely return to practice before long. Tranquill's expected to start in 2022 after notching 76 tackles in 14 games last season.... See More ... See Less -
Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Will play Sunday
Tranquill (ankle) is active Sunday against the Raiders, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports. Tranquill will return after a one-game absence, which should be a boost to the Chargers' linebacker unit and defense as whole.... See More ... See Less -
Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Inactive Sunday
Tranquill (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's contest against the Broncos, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports. As expected, Tranquill won't be available in Week 17. In his absence, Nick Niemann is expected to step into a starting role against Denver.... See More ... See Less -
Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Effective against Bengals
Tranquill recorded 10 tackles (six solo), a sack and a pass defense in Sunday's 41-22 win over Cincinnati. Tranquill tied for the team lead in tackles during Sunday's blowout win while also recording his highest total in the category since Week 5. The 26-year-old has had somewhat inconsistent results for the Chargers this year, and he's now recorded 57 tackles (34 solo), 1.5 sacks and a pass defense across his first 10 appearances of the season.... Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Officially out Sunday
Tranquill (illness) will not pay in Sunday's Week 10 game versus the Vikings, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports. Tranquill landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday after testing positive for the illness. He will need two negative tests at least 24 hours apart before he is deemed eligible to return. Look for Nick Niemann to step in to a starting role at inside linebacker in his absence.... See More ... See Less -
Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Nine total tackles in win
Tranquill recorded nine tackles (four solo) in Sunday's 27-24 win over the Eagles. Tranquill has now recorded nine-plus total tackles in two of his last three games, setting the stage for his best statistical NFL season yet. The 2019 fourth-round pick has stepped into an important defensive role for Los Angeles. However, it may be a difficult afternoon next Sunday as Tranquill and the Chargers look to contain star running back Dalvin Cook.... See More ... See Less -
Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Active to face Patriots
Tranquill (chest) is active for Sunday's game against New England. Tranquill was limited in all three practices this week coming out of Los Angeles' Week 7 bye, but he's been deemed healthy enough to make his return to action -- he hasn't played since Week 5 when he recorded 11 tackles against the Browns. His presence certainly provides a boost to Los Angeles' defensive unit.... See More ... See Less -
Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Trending toward return
Tranquill (chest) is trending toward playing Sunday against the Patriots, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports. Tranquill missed the Chargers' Week 6 game against Baltimore, but after a Week 7 bye he is headed in the right direction. The third-year pro was enjoying a bit of a breakout campaign and carving out a bigger role for himself each week. Despite missing a game already, Tranquill is still on pace for a career high in tackles.... See More ... See Less -
Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Unavailable Week 6
Tranquill has been ruled out for Sunday's game at Baltimore due to a chest injury. Tranquill recorded 11 tackles during last week's win over the Browns but apparently picked up the chest injury and will be sidelined this weekend. Nick Niemann or Amen Ogbongbemiga could see increased playing time in his absence.... See More ... See Less -
Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Produces in limited role
Tranquill had eight tackles (six solo) and a half-sack during Sunday's 30-24 win over the Chiefs. Tranquill played only 34 of 79 defensive snaps but was significantly involved when on the field. The 26-year-old worked in a rotational role for the Chargers but has progressively seen more playing time in each game so far during the young season.... See More ... See Less -
Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Placed on IR
Tranquill (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday. Tranquill sustained a broken ankle in Sunday's win over the Bengals and could miss the remainder of the 2020 season, so this move was expected. The Chargers elevated Asmar Bilal to the active roster to bolster their linebacker depth alongside Nick Vigil and Emeke Egbule.... See More ... See Less -
Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Suffers leg injury
Tranquill suffered a leg injury in the team's Week 1 contest against the Bengals and will not return, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports. The injury appeared to be serious, as a cart came out to take Tranquill off the field and an air cast was applied to his leg. Nick Vigil will see an uptick in snaps in his absence. Coach Anthony Lynn said postgame he doesn't expect Tranquill back "any time soon," per Daniel Popper of The Athletic.... See More ... See Less -
Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Expected to be three-down starter
Tranquill is expected to occupy a three-down role this season, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports. This is a bit of a two-fold breakdown as there was some thought Tranquill could take over at middle linebacker, moving Denzel Perryman or 2020 first-round pick Kenneth Murray to the outside. Instead, Tranquill will start on the outside and should play every down as well with the likes of Murray or even Kyzir White rotating off the field in obvious passing situations. It's an important distinction in deeper IDP leagues as Tranquill registered 75 tackles despite playing just 322 defensive snaps his rookie year.... See More ... See Less -
Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Another impressive tackle total
Tranquill tallied eight tackles (seven total) in the 45-10 win Sunday over the Jaguars. Throughout the last three games, Tranquill has emerged as the Chargers' top tackler, leading the team in two out of the three games, including a 14-tackle outing against the Raiders in Week 10. It's come at the cost of Thomas Davis, and to some extent Denzel Perryman, although the latter did not play Sunday due to disciplinary reasons.... See More ... See Less

Seth Keysor@RealMNchiefsfan13D agoI'm through a couple games of Drue Tranquill's film, and I just don't see how KC keeps him off the field on obvious passing downs over Bolton. Not a potshot at Bolton, who I like, but Tranquill is significantly more comfortable in space and closing off the middle of the field.
