  • Bills' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Held catchless in loss

Valdes-Scantling failed to secure his lone target in Sunday's 35-10 loss to the Ravens. Valdes-Scantling continued to play a limited role in Buffalo's offense in Week 4. The veteran wideout played 25 of the Bills' 59 offensive snaps, behind Keon Coleman (43), Mack Hollins (36) and Khalil Shakir (35). His one target was the lowest of any Buffalo wide receiver in the contest. Going forward, Valdes-Scantling won't hold much fantasy value barring injuries to the other members of the receiving corps. The Bills are set to visit the Texans in Week 5.

  • Bills' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Leads receivers in snaps

Valdes-Scantling hauled in one of his two targets for a seven-yard gain in Monday's 47-10 win over the Jaguars. Valdes-Scantling finished as the surprising leader in playing time among Bills wideouts in Week 3. He took the field for 49 of the Bills' 64 offensive snaps, with his 77 percent snap share narrowly outpacing Mack Hollins (72 percent) and Khalil Shakir (55 percent). However, even with quarterback Josh Allen spreading the ball out liberally among his pass catchers through the first three weeks, Valdes-Scantling hasn't been able to make a mark in the box score. He's drawn just five targets this season and will likely continue to function mainly as a downfield threat who attracts attention from the defense and frees up looks for others underneath.

  • Bills' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Non-factor in Week 2 win

Valdes-Scantling didn't catch his only target in Thursday's 31-10 win over the Dolphins. Valdes-Scantling has just one catch on three targets through two games with the Bills. The speedster will likely connect with big-armed quarterback Josh Allen for a few big plays this season, but those will probably come sporadically given Valdes-Scantling's lack of a consistent role in Buffalo's offense. Heading into a Week 3 home game against the Jaguars, Valdes-Scantling is fifth among Bills wide receivers in targets behind Khalil Shakir (eight), Keon Coleman (six), Curtis Samuel (four) and Mack Hollins (four).

  • Bills' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Targeted twice in win

Valdes-Scantling reeled in one of his two targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 34-28 win over the Cardinals. Valdes-Scantling played just 13 of the Bills' 62 offensive snaps Sunday, the fewest of any Buffalo wideout. Buried on the depth chart behind Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir, Mack Hollins and Curtis Samuel, the 29-year-old likely will struggle to see enough consistent playing time to sustain fantasy relevance. Nonetheless, Valdes-Scantling will have his next opportunity to produce in what projects to be a shootout between Buffalo and Miami in Week 2.

  • Bills' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Healthy to kick off regular season

Valdes-Scantling (neck) is not listed on Wednesday's injury report. Valdes-Scantling has apparently made a full recovery from the neck injury he suffered in an Aug. 17 preseason game versus the Steelers. Moving past the neck issue doesn't guarantee that the veteran deep threat will be active Sunday versus Arizona, though, as all of Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins are healthy and seem to be ahead of him on the depth chart. If he suits up Sunday, Valdes-Scantling may be limited to just a handful of snaps.

  • Bills' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Makes final cut

Valdes-Scantling (neck) has made Buffalo's initial 53-man roster, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports. Valdes-Scantling was no lock to make the roster, but head coach Sean McDermott expressed optimism last week that the veteran wideout has a good chance of being ready for Week 1. When the Bills made their cutdown decisions, the team had a desire to keep a downfield threat on the roster, which helped Valdes-Scantling secure a spot. Despite his standing on the roster, Valdes-Scantling isn't guaranteed to be active Week 1 against the Cardinals, and even if he does suit up, he'll likely be the fifth receiver on the depth chart to start the season.

  • Bills' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Out multiple weeks

Valdes-Scantling (neck) is expected to miss multiple weeks, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. With Valdes-Scantling's Week 1 status now unclear and Curtis Samuel (turf toe) week-to-week, the Bills' depth at wideout ahead of the regular season is being taxed. For now, Buffalo's top healthy options at the position are Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman, but it's plausible that the team will look to bolster the ranks in the coming days.

  • Bills' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Ruled out Saturday

Valdes-Scantling (neck) won't return to Saturday's preseason contest at Pittsburgh. Valdes-Scantling had his neck stabilized after a catch in the second quarter and eventually was carted to the locker room. Considering he's lagged behind in the WR competition in training camp and now is dealing with a health concern, he could be in danger of not making the Bills' initial roster after cut-down day Tuesday, Aug. 27.

  • Bills' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Sustains neck injury

Valdes-Scantling suffered a neck injury during Saturday's preseason game in Pittsburgh. Valdes-Scantling remained on the field after a second-quarter catch and even had his neck stabilized by trainers, but he eventually sat up and went to the sideline tent before being carted to the locker room. With his night almost certainly over, his upcoming prognosis may be a determining factor to whether or not he's able to earn a roster spot on the Bills on cut-down day (Tuesday, Aug. 27).

  • Bills' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Carted to locker room

Valdes-Scantling (undisclosed) needed a cart to go to the locker room during Saturday's preseason game at Pittsburgh, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports. After making a catch in the second quarter, Valdes-Scantling remained on the field for a spell and even had his neck stabilized, but he eventually was able to sit up and make his way to the sideline tent with assistance from team trainers. The nature of the injury isn't known, but it wouldn't surprise if his night is over considering it's exhibition season.

  • Bills' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Gets one-year deal in Buffalo

The Bills are slated to sign Valdes-Scantling to a one-year contract worth up to $4.5 million Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Valdes-Scantling was released by the Chiefs back in February, and he now lands with another AFC powerhouse. Buffalo's revamped wide receiver corps, which lost Stefon Diggs via trade and Gabe Davis to free agency, could use a deep threat to complement Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel and rookie second-round pick Keon Coleman. Working as the No. 4 man on the depth chart could be an ideal situation for Valdes-Scantling to contribute, though if utilized only as a situation downfield target, he's more likely to slightly raise Josh Allen's ceiling than carry standalone value. Across 16 regular-season games last year, the 29-year-old compiled a career-low 21-315-1 receiving line.

  • Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Let go by Kansas City

Kansas City will release Valdes-Scantling on Wednesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. Valdes-Scantling's only chance of remaining with the Chiefs would have been to restructure the final year of his three-year, $30 million contract, but Kansas City will instead cut him loose to save roughly $12 million in cap space. The savings are a necessity for the Chiefs, who are hoping to retain defensive stalwarts L'Jarius Sneed and Chris Jones this offseason on longer-term deals. Valdes-Scantling did little across 16 regular-season games in 2023, with just 21 catches for 315 yards and one touchdown on 42 targets. Back in 2022, he essentially doubled that production in one extra game played. The 29-year-old deep threat will now look to find a complementary role in a wide receiver corps elsewhere in the league.

  • Chiefs' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Candidate to be released

Kansas City may release Valdes-Scantling this offseason, a move that would clear up $12 million in cap space, according to Nate Taylor of The Athletic. It's a no-brainer move barring a renegotiated contract, despite Valdes-Scantling's contributions in the playoffs the past two seasons. He's won two rings since signing a three-year, $30 million contract with the team in March 2022, but he caught only 21 passes for 315 yards and one touchdown in 16 games during the 2023 regular season. Valdes-Scantling will turn 30 years old next October and has never reached 700 yards in a season despite taking nearly all of his NFL snaps with either Patrick Mahomes or Aaron Rodgers under center.

  • Chiefs' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Ices game with big reception

Valdes-Scantling caught both of his targets for 38 yards in Sunday's 17-10 AFC Championship win over the Ravens. Valdes-Scantling began Kansas City's final offensive drive with just one reception for six yards before getting loose over the top for a 32-yard reception that allowed his team to run out the clock and advance to Super Bowl LVIII. That's now two consecutive weeks in which the 29-year-old wideout made clutch receptions to help his team ice playoff victories. Valdes-Scantling will attempt to work his postseason magic as one of superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes' auxiliary options in Las Vegas on Sunday, Feb. 11.

  • Chiefs' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Redemption in divisional round

Valdes-Scantling recorded two receptions on four targets for 62 yards in Sunday's 27-24 win over the Bills. Valdes-Scantling got attention this season for the wrong reasons, as he often squandered opportunities with drops. However, he delivered key receptions of 32 and 30 yards in the Chiefs' win, both of which helped set up touchdowns later in the drive. It was Valdes-Scantling's highest yardage total since Week 7 and the first time he topped 30 receiving yards in that span. With Kadarius Toney (hip) struggling to get healthy and Mecole Hardman losing a key fumble Sunday, Valdes-Scantling may be called upon once again in the AFC Championship Game against Baltimore.

  • Chiefs' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Held to one catch in wild-card round

Valdes-Scantling recorded one catch for eight yards on two targets Saturday in the Chiefs' 26-7 win over the Dolphins in the wild-card round. Valdes-Scantling returned to action after he was active for the Chiefs' 13-12 win over the Chargers in the regular-season finale Jan. 7, though he didn't actually play any snaps in the contest while Kansas City held out several key players with its postseason positioning already locked up. The 29-year-old turned in a disappointing season overall, with his 21-315-1 receiving line on 42 targets over 16 appearances marking a steep decline from his already modest outputs of 42 catches for 687 yards and two touchdowns over his 17 appearances in 2022, his first campaign in Kansas City. Valdes-Scantling has one more season left on his three-year contract, but barring a dramatic turnaround in his performance over the duration of the postseason, the Chiefs will likely move on from the veteran wideout this offseason or rework his contract.

  • Chiefs' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Blanked in Week 16

Valdes-Scantling did not catch his only target in Monday's 20-14 loss versus the Raiders. Despite leading Kansas City's wide receivers in snaps Monday (58), Valdes-Scantling was only able to draw one target, which he couldn't haul in. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes didn't have much time in the pocket, so the longer routes that are Valdes-Scantling's calling card were simply not in play for much of the game. He'll look to bounce back in Week 17 versus the Bengals.

  • Chiefs' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: One target in Week 15

Valdes-Scantling secured his only target for 17 yards in Sunday's 27-17 win over the Patriots. Valdes-Scantling saw just one target on a day that quarterback Patrick Mahomes attempted 37 passes. The veteran wideout has played at least one-third of the Chiefs' snaps on offense in all 14 games this season, but he hasn't exceeded five targets in any outing and has cleared 50 receiving yards on just one occasion.

  • Chiefs' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Reels in two catches

Valdes-Scantling secured two of four targets for 22 yards in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Bills. Valdes-Scantling continued his disappointing season Sunday, catching just two passes for the second straight week. The veteran wideout played 22 of the Chiefs' 66 offensive snaps, behind Rashee Rice (56), Justin Watson (36), Kadarius Toney (29) and Skyy Moore (23). Since Kansas City's Week 9 bye, Valdes-Scantling is roughly averaging a 45 percent snap share compared to the 61 percent average he saw in the first eight games. Seeing such limited opportunities, the 29-year-old is an untrustworthy fantasy option in most formats. he'll look to make the most of his opportunities in Week 15 when the Chiefs visit the Patriots.

  • Chiefs' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Modest production in loss

Valdes-Scantling caught two of five targets for 25 yards in Sunday's 27-19 loss to the Packers. Valdes-Scantling's five targets tied a season-high that he previously set back in Week 7. Even so, the veteran wideout didn't do much with his opportunities while facing off against his former team. Valdes-Scantling has averaged just 16.1 receiving yards per game while finding the end zone only once through 12 appearances, making him difficult to trust as a weekly lineup option even in deeper leagues.
