  • Devontae Booker: Gets look from Giants

Booker had a tryout with the Giants on Thursday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports. Booker was a part of the running back mix for the Giants last season, partly due to Saquon Barkley dealing with injuries for a second consecutive year. Booker and Barkley were co-leaders for the team on the ground with 593 yards apiece, but Booker actually was more efficient with this rushes (4.1 YPC versus 3.7) than Barkley. On top of that, Booker hauled in 40 of 45 passes for 268 yards and notched three total touchdowns. As the Giants' roster currently stands, Matt Breida in the most experienced reserve RB, so Booker may slot in directly behind Barkley again if the team brings him back.

  • Devontae Booker: Let go by Giants

The Giants cut Booker on Wednesday. As expected, Booker was released to create $2.1 million in cap savings for the Giants ahead of the new league year. Booker appeared in all but one of the Giants' 17 games in 2021, making four starts while top back Saquon Barkley was out of the lineup and serving as the top complement when Barkley was in the lineup. The 29-year-old wrapped up what proved to be his lone season with the Giants with 593 yards and two touchdowns on the ground to go with 40 receptions for 268 yards and another score. He'll likely find an opportunity elsewhere as a reserve back.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Time in New York ending

The Giants plan to cut Booker on Wednesday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Per the report, the anticipated move would create $2.1 million in cap savings for the Giants, while leaving $1 million in dead money. While working behind Saquon Barkley in 2021, Booker finished the campaign with 593 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 145 carries to go with 40 catches for 268 yards and one score on 45 targets. The 2016 fourth-round pick, who turns 30 in May, is a candidate to catch on elsewhere as a backup option out of the backfield in the coming weeks.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Solid season as backup

Booker finished 2021 with 593 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 145 carries for a 4.1 YPC. He also caught 40 passes for 268 yards and one TD on 45 targets. As Saquon Barkley's backup, Booker did a solid job filling in and handling both early-down and pass-catching duties when needed, and he wound up posting nearly identical numbers to Barkley. Booker will be 30 next year, but he's under contract for another season and is likely to reprise his role as the Giants' No. 2 back.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Gets 20 touches in ugly loss

Booker rushed 18 times for 46 yards and caught two of three targets for no gain in Sunday's 29-3 loss to Chicago. Booker played second fiddle to Saquon Barkley (21 carries for 102 yards) on the ground, but he saw a sizable workload himself and also accounted for half of Mike Glennon's four completions as the struggling Giants offense hit a new low. While Booker should continue to play a prominent role in Week 18 against Washington, it's tough to trust anybody on a Giants offense that has produced just 19 points over the past three games combined.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Gets 10 touches in loss

Booker rushed six times for 27 yards and secured all four of his targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 34-10 loss to the Eagles. Booker played 52 percent of the Giants' offensive snaps Sunday, while starter Saquon Barkley was in on just 34 percent of snaps. Even with the added work, Booker couldn't get much going. With Mike Glennon and Jake Fromm running the show at quarterback, the New York offense has been one of the NFL's weaker units since Daniel Jones (neck) suffered what was ultimately a season-ending injury.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Outperforms Barkley in loss

Booker rushed eight times for 74 yards and secured both targets for eight yards in the Giants' 21-6 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday. Saquon Barkley rushed for just 3.3 yards per carry, while Booker, as was also the case in the Week 14 loss to the Chargers, was exponentially more efficient than his star backfield mate. The journeyman continues to earn a solid complementary role -- he's now logged 22 carries over the last three games -- and he also has multiple receptions in each of those contests. Given the amount of injuries and COVID-related absences at the running back position at this point in the season, fantasy managers could do worse than Booker in deeper PPR formats if they're particularly short-handed at the position.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Backup role

Booker had eight carries for 56 yards and caught four of five passes for 28 yards in Sunday's loss to the Chargers. Saquon Barkley saw 16 carries and most of the snaps, but Booker still has a role, especially in the passing game.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Gets 10 touches

Booker rushed the ball six times for 36 yards in Sunday's 20-9 loss to the Dolphins. He added four receptions for 18 yards. Booker accounted for six carries as opposed to Saquon Barkley's 11, and he earned double-digit touches for the first time since Barkley's return to the field. He was effective as both a rusher and receiver, as he picked up gains of 17 and 13 yards on the ground as well multiple receptions of eight yards through the air. Booker isn't likely to see his workload increase heavily unless Barkley is forced to the sideline, though he remains the clear backup to stash for the Giants.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Quiet in limited role

Booker carried three times for 10 yards and caught his only target for 17 yards in Sunday's 13-7 win over the Eagles. Booker played just 10 offensive snaps as the backup to Saquon Barkley, who was on the field for 52 of the Giants' 60 plays. Neither Booker or Barkley could get much going on the ground against the Eagles, but Barkley remains locked into a high-volume, three-down role now that he's healthy again after recently missing time with a sprained ankle. Booker has little value with Barkley back in the lineup, but he remains a valuable handcuff in the event that Barkley were to be sidelined with an injury again.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Handles three carries in loss

Booker carried three times for 15 yards and caught his only target for five yards in Monday's 30-10 loss to the Buccaneers. After a four-game run as a starter, Booker dropped back to the No. 2 spot on the depth chart at running back with Saquon Barkley (ankle) returning to action. Booker handled 21 offensive snaps, while Barkley played 36 snaps. Expect that discrepancy to grow larger as Barkley becomes further removed from the injury, rendering Booker little more than a handcuff to the Giants' lead back.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Playing but Barkley back Monday

Booker (hip) is active for Monday's game at Tampa Bay. So is Saquon Barkley, who is making his return from a four-game absence after sustaining a rough-looking ankle sprain in Week 5. Barkley likely will take on the No. 1 role out of the Giants backfield, but Booker still may earn reps after racking up 382 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown in a quartet of starts in place of Barkley.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Possible for Monday

Booker (hip) is listed as questionable for Monday's contest against the Buccaneers, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Booker and Saquon Barkley (ankle) both participated in Saturday's practice, which could open up the possibility both backs are available for Monday's battle. Booker starred in the absence of the aforementioned starter, tallying 78 carries for 293 rushing yards to go along with 17 receptions and 147 yards plus three touchdowns in Barkley's five missed games. More information regarding the status of both backs should be available prior to the 8:15 ET kickoff.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Limited again

Booker (hip) remained limited at Friday's practice, Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger reports. Both Booker and Saquon Barkley (hip) have logged back-to-back limited practices coming out of a bye week as the Giants prepare to play in Tampa on Monday. It's possible both running backs end up listed as questionable for the final game for Week 11, leaving a number of fantasy managers in a bind. Booker and Barkley both have one more chance Saturday to upgrade to full participation before the Giants release their final injury report.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Limited in practice

Booker (hip) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Both of the top two running backs on the Giants' depth chart were limited in the team's first official practice of Week 11, as Saquon Barkley (ankle) was back on the field following a four-game absence. Barring a setback in practice, Barkley looks on track to suit up Monday against the Buccaneers, thereby ending Booker's time as the Giants' lead back. Though Booker's fantasy value will all but disappear as a result, head coach Joe Judge told Paul Schwartz of the New York Post on Wednesday that the 29-year-old should still rotate into the backfield to help keep Barkley fresh coming off the injury. In the three games this season where both Booker and Barkley have been active and came out of the contest healthy, Booker totaled only seven carries (for 22 yards) and three receptions (for 14 yards).

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Absent from practice

Booker (hip) wasn't in attendance for the Giants' practice session Monday due to a personal matter, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Booker had been tending to a hip injury coming out of the Giants' last game Nov. 7 against the Raiders, but that doesn't seem to be a major concern following the team's Week 10 bye. The personal matter was what kept him away from the field Monday, though the Giants haven't suggested that it's anything that will prevent him from playing next Monday in Tampa Bay. Rather than the hip injury or the personal matter, the impending return of Saquon Barkley (ankle) is the main reason why Booker's stock is trending down. Barkley didn't appear to have many limitations during practice Monday and looks on track to recapture a lead role out of the backfield Week 11 following a four-game absence.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Not concerned about hip issue

Booker downplayed the hip injury he suffered in Sunday's 23-16 win over the Raiders, Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger reports. Booker underwent an X-ray on his hip after the game, but he suggested that he's fine while telling Rosenblatt that he wanted to return to Sunday's game. With the Giants on bye Week 10, Booker will have some added recovery time, but the same can be said for Saquon Barkley (ankle), who was inactive versus Las Vegas. If Barkley is able to return for the team's Nov. 22 tilt against the Buccaneers, Booker would likely revert back to a complementary role Week 11.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Dealing with hip injury

Booker exited Sunday's game against the Raiders with a hip injury, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Booker started in place of Saquon Barkley (ankle) and had 21 carries for 99 yards and three receptions for 23 yards prior to suffering the injury. Fullback Elijhaa Penny is now set to handle New York's backfield work, unless Booker is able to retake the field.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: In line for lead role again

Booker is expected to continue serving as New York's lead back for Sunday's game against Raiders with Saquon Barkley (ankle) sidelined for a fourth straight contest, Michael Eisen of the Giants' official site reports. Heading into the week, Barkley looked like he might have a decent chance at returning from a three-game absence, but lingering discomfort in his sprained left ankle coupled with a brief stint on the COVID-19 protocol prevented him from getting in enough practice work to put himself on track to play. Barkley's absence thus clears the way for Booker to start and fill a three-down role out of the backfield once again. Booker has performed capably in the past three outings, averaging 17.3 touches and 86.7 yards per contest while finding the end zone once during that stretch.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Totals 125 from scrimmage

Booker rushed 15 times for 60 yards and caught five of six targets for 65 yards in Monday night's 20-17 loss to the Chiefs. Booker racked up his most scrimmage yards of the season, balancing his production between the rushing and passing games. His biggest contribution came on a 41-yard catch prior to halftime, helping set up a field goal for the Giants. Although he didn't find the end zone Monday, Booker still fared admirably while drawing another start in Saquon Barkley's (ankle) absence. Barkley hopes to be available for Week 9's matchup versus the Raiders, but Booker's presence could enable New York to manage Barkley's exposure if needed upon his return to the lineup.
