Smoot signed a one-year deal with the Bills on Friday, Alec White & Maddy Glab of the team's official site reports. Smoot, who spent the past seven seasons with the Jaguars, will provide the Bills with added defensive-line depth ahead of the 2024 campaign. The 2017 third-rounder is coming off a 2023 regular season in which he recorded just 10 tackles, including a sack, in 12 contests, but with Buffalo, Smoot should have a chance to contribute as a rotational pass rusher.... Jaguars' Dawuane Smoot: Activated from PUP list
Jacksonville activated Smoot (Achilles) from the reserve/PUP list Saturday, Demetrius Harvey of The Florida Times-Union reports. Smoot partially tore his Achilles last December and began the 2023 campaign on the PUP list. He was able to return to practice in a limited fashion last week before being upgraded to a full participant this week. Smoot's activation means he is lined up to make his season debut Sunday against the Colts, and he should immediately help the Jaguars' pass rush.... See More ... See Less -
Jaguars' Dawuane Smoot: Will return to practice
Smoot (Achilles) was designated to return from the reserve/PUP list Wednesday. Smoot will now have 21 days to practice with the team before being added to the active roster. The 28-year-old suffered a partially torn Achilles last December and hasn't been able to practice with the team since, so he'll likely need most, if not all, of that three-week window to be ready to join the 53-man roster.... Jaguars' Dawuane Smoot: Out minimum of four games
The Jaguars placed Smoot (Achilles) on the reserve/PUP list Tuesday, per the NFL's transaction log. Smoot will need to miss at least the first four games of the season as he continues to recover from a partially torn Achilles tendon suffered last December. Once back to full health, expect Smoot to handle his usual rotational role in Jacksonville's defensive front.... See More ... See Less -
Jaguars' Dawuane Smoot: Lands on PUP list
Smoot (Achilles) was placed on the active/PUP list Wednesday. Smoot is still recovering from a partially torn Achilles tendon suffered last December. However, with Jacksonville willing to sign him to a one-year $6.25 million deal Friday, and his placement on the active, not reserve, PUP list, he's likely to be ready sooner than later. He'll be able to compete once he can pass his physical.... See More ... See Less -
Jaguars' Dawuane Smoot: Torn Achilles feared
Smoot is feared to have suffered a torn Achilles in Thursday's win over the Jets, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Smoot is slated to undergo an MRI on Friday after he departed Thursday's matchup against the Jets with an apparent non-contact lower-body injury. The 27-year-old was in the midst of yet another productive season for Jacksonville, but depending on the test results, there's a decent chance that Smoot played his last game of the 2022-23 campaign in Week 16. If a torn Achilles is indeed confirmed, Arden Key and Corey Peters could receive more reps on the Jaguars' defensive line behind starters Roy Robertson-Harris, Folorunso Fatukasi (ankle) and DaVon Hamilton.... Jaguars' Dawuane Smoot: Put on COVID list
Smoot was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday. That means the Jaguars' entire starting defensive line is on the COVID list ahead of Week 17. Jacksonville will likely call up replacements from the practice squad, but Roy Robertson-Harris and Adam Gotsis should be quite busy against the Patriots.... See More ... See Less -
Jaguars' Dawuane Smoot: Not leaving Jacksonville
The Jaguars are re-signing Smoot to a two-year, $14 million contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Smoot is coming off a career year, having notched 25 tackles (21 solo), 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery across 16 contests in 2020. Still, unless his tackle or sack totals dramatically increase next season, he won't have much value in IDP formats.... See More ... See Less -
Jaguars' Dawuane Smoot: Records six sacks in 2019
Smoot had 17 tackles (12 solo), six sacks and one fumble recovery in 16 games this season. The 2017 third-round pick began the season without a sack in 24 career games, but he took advantage of increased defensive snaps in 2019. Smoot found success despite working as a rotational defensive end, and he could be in line for a larger workload in 2020 given the impending free agency of Yannick Ngakoue.... See More ... See Less -
Jaguars' Dawuane Smoot: Solid in limited role
Smoot had two tackles (one solo) and a sack in Sunday's home loss to the Saints. While playing just 20 of 66 defensive snaps in the game, Smoot made his presence felt, collecting his third sack of the season. His snap total limits his IDP appeal, and he has only collected eight tackles outside of his three sacks through six games. Smoot should see his usual depth role on the defensive line when he and the Jaguars take on Cincinnati in Week 7.... See More ... See Less -
Jaguars' Dawuane Smoot: Sidelined for Saturday's game
Smoot (foot) will not play in Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings, Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports. Smoot will not even participate in the dual practices with Minnesota on Wednesday and Thursday, so it could be a somewhat serious foot injury the defensive end is dealing with. Expect another update on Smoot to come when regular practices start up again at the start of next week.... See More ... See Less -
Jaguars' Dawuane Smoot: Dealing with foot injury
Smoot was held out of Thursday's preseason opener against the Saints with a foot injury, Mike Kaye of FirstCoastNews.com reports. Smoot totaled 20 tackles in 16 games for the Jaguars in his rookie season, and he could have an opening this preseason to make an impression with Dante Fowler (shoulder) currently on the PUP list. The severity and specifics of the foot injury are currently unknown.... See More ... See Less
