Ruiz completed the league's five-step concussion protocol Thursday and has been cleared to play, Rod Walker reports. Ruiz is no longer on the Saints' injury report and should be good to go Sunday against the Patriots after missing the team's Week 4 loss to the Buccaneers. He should resume his role as the team's starter at right guard.... See More ... See Less

Saints' Cesar Ruiz: Ruled out
Ruiz (concussion) will not play in Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, John DeShazier of the Saints' official site reports. It's no surprise that Ruiz has been ruled out, as he suffered a concussion during Week 3's loss to Green Bay and did not participate in practice throughout the week. Backup guard Andrus Peat is expected to fill in for the 24-year-old this coming Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Saints' Cesar Ruiz: Misses practice Wednesday
Ruiz (concussion) was unavailable for the Saints' practice Wednesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports. Ruiz suffered a concussion in the team's 18-17 Week 3 loss to the Packers, so his absence Wednesday doesn't come as a surprise. The offensive lineman will have two more practices this week to log at least a limited session before Sunday's matchup with Tampa Bay.... See More ... See Less -
Saints' Cesar Ruiz: Sustains concussion Sunday
Ruiz (concussion) will not return to Sunday's game against the Packers, John Hendrix of SI.com reports. Ruiz sustained this injury at some point during the first half of Sunday's contest, which will leave his status up in the air for the Week 4 contest against Tampa Bay on Sunday, Oct. 1. With the starting guard out, backup Andrus Peat will presumably step in on the right side of New Orleans' offensive line.... See More ... See Less -
Saints' Cesar Ruiz: Inks extension
Ruiz and the Saints agreed Saturday on a four-year, $44 million contract extension, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. The Saints declined Ruiz's $14.18 million fifth-year option for the 2024 season earlier this month, but they'll end up keeping the right guard in the fold on a longer-term basis at a slight annual discount. He has played and started in 31 out of a possible 34 games over the previous two seasons and will remain a key cog along the offensive line for the foreseeable future.... See More ... See Less -
Saints' Cesar Ruiz: Participating in practice
Ruiz, who has been recovering from a Lisfranc injury he suffered in December, is participating in training camp practices, KADN News 15 reports. Ruiz has started in 40 games since being drafted by the Saints in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Now that he's healthy, Ruiz will look to cement his role as the starting right guard during training camp.... See More ... See Less -
Saints' Cesar Ruiz: Dropping pounds
Ruiz (foot) has been cutting down his weight, while he recovers from a Lisfranc injury, Terrin Waack of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Ruiz is still rehabbing his injury, although he is expected to be ready to compete during training camp. In the process, he's been able to cut back some weight, which should help in the recovery of his foot injury. Assuming he does regain full health by the start of the season, he should remain the Saints' starter at right guard.... See More ... See Less -
Saints' Cesar Ruiz: Fifth-year option declined
Ruiz (foot) did not have his fifth-year option picked up by the Saints on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Ruiz is now slated to become a free agent upon the conclusion of the 2023 NFL campaign. The 23-year-old guard has started in 40 out of the 46 games he suited up for since he was drafted by New Orleans in 2020, and he'll now have a chance to cash out next year should he continue to perform well.... Saints' Cesar Ruiz: Should be ready for training camp
Ruiz (foot) is expected to be ready for training camp, Katherine Terrell of ESPN reports. Ruiz has been out since late December after sustaining a Lisfranc injury and is now expected to be back for training camp. Although it's unclear if the 2020 first-round pick will be ready for day one of camp, this still comes as good news as it was previously unclear if Ruiz would be ready for camp at all....
