  • Kellen Mond: Waived by New Orleans

The Saints waived Mond on Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports. Mond signed with New Orleans prior to the 2024 NFL Draft, but he ends up the odd man out in the team's quarterback room after the addition of fifth-round pick Spencer Rattler. A 2021 third-round selection, Mond will look for an opportunity to compete for a depth role elsewhere this offseason.

  • Browns' Kellen Mond: Let go by Cleveland

Mond was waived by the Browns on Thursday, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports. Mond was unable to surpass Joshua Dobbs or Dorian Thompson-Robinson on the depth chart during training camp and the preseason and will ultimately be the odd man out even if Cleveland chooses to keep two backup quarterbacks behind starter Deshaun Watson. The 2021 third-round selection will now work to find another opportunity.

  • Browns' Kellen Mond: Claimed by Cleveland

The Browns claimed Mond off waivers from the Vikings on Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports. Mond was drafted by the Vikings in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft but failed to impress during his short time with the organization and was waived ahead of Tuesday's 53-man roster deadline. However, he quickly found a new home with the Browns, who've dealt with a well-documented QB controversy over the last year. Currently, it appears like Mond will compete with Joshua Dobbs for the backup spot behind Jacoby Brissett, who'll operate as the starter while Deshaun Watson is suspended.

  • Kellen Mond: Waived by Minnesota

The Vikings waived Mond on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Mond was drafted by the Vikings in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but he's failed to impress during his short time with the organization. Sean Mannion outplayed Mond during the preseason, and the team recently traded for Nick Mullens, which left Mond as the odd man out. Due to his collegiate prowess, Mond figures to at least get a look on a practice squad during the 2022 campaign.

  • Vikings' Kellen Mond: Struggles in second preseason game

Mond started Saturday's preseason loss to the 49ers and was 10-for-20 passing for 82 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. Round 2 of the backup quarterback battle went to Sean Mannion after Mond outplayed him in the first preseason game. Mannion was 10-for-15 passing for 65 yards in the second half, so he wasn't too much better. The battle for the backup role will likely be decided late in training camp.

  • Vikings' Kellen Mond: Two TD passes in preseason opener

Mond was 9-of-14 passing for 119 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's preseason loss at Las Vegas. He also had three carries for seven yards. Round 1 of the battle for the backup quarterback job went to Mond, who outplayed Sean Mannion (8-of-12 passing for 79 yards and no touchdowns). However, Mannion played in the first half and Mond played against lesser competition in the second half. The battle for the backup role likely will continue through the preseason. Mond improved significantly from last year, when he looked lost at times during the preseason.

  • Vikings' Kellen Mond: Plays one series in loss

Mond isn't a candidate to start Week 18 against Chicago, with Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer saying "not particularly" when asked if he wanted to see Mond play, the Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Mond played one series in Sunday's loss at Green Bay, going 2-for-3 for five yards. Mond played one series when starter Sean Mannion was unavailable due to a hand injury. It's not clear if Kirk Cousins will start Week 18 with the Vikings eliminated from playoff contention (and not clear if Cousins will return from the COVID-19 list), but it looks like Mannion and not Mond would start if needed.

  • Vikings' Kellen Mond: Inactive for Week 1

Mond (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against Cincinnati. Mond has been listed as inactive for the season opener, which seems to suggest he has lost the battle for being the No. 2 quarterback to Sean Mannion. The former Texas A&M standout will have to wait to make his debut on an active roster.

  • Vikings' Kellen Mond: Unlikely to play Saturday

Coach Mike Zimmer said Wednesday that Mond is likely to sit out Saturday's exhibition match against the Broncos, Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Zimmer said Mond is "rusty" after missing 10 days of practice on the COVID-19 list, per Krammer. Mond was a "little slow with his reads," Zimmer said, and, "He needs to speed up the tempo a little bit." The rookie third-round pick is listed as the fourth quarterback on Minnesota's first depth chart of the preseason.

  • Vikings' Kellen Mond: Activated from COVID-19 list

The Vikings activated Mond (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday. Mond can now join teammates on the practice field. The rookie third-round pick had been away from the team since July 31 after returning a positive test for COVID-19, resulting in his missing out on valuable training camp reps. If he can catch up quickly, Mond could have a chance to see some action during Saturday's preseason contest against the Broncos.
