  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Inks massive extension

    Sewell and the Lions agreed to terms Wednesday on a four-year, $112 million contract extension, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Sewell's deal, which reportedly includes $85 million guaranteed, makes him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL. The 23-year-old right tackle has played at a high level since joining Detroit as the No. 7 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, but he took a step forward in 2023 while earning first-team All-Pro honors. In addition to Sewell, the Lions extended top wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown to a four-year extension Wednesday, one day in advance of the 2024 NFL Draft.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Returns to practice

    Sewell (concussion) participated in Lions camp Wednesday after missing the three prior practices with a head injury, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. Sewell suffered a brain injury less than a week ago but has since been cleared to return to the field. Detroit will be happy to have their cornerstone tackle back, as he's started every game for the Lions since being drafted in 2021 and has already received Pro Bowl honors. Expect the 22-year-old to continue holding down the right side of Detroit's offensive line for years to come.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Out until at least Wednesday

    Sewell entered concussion protocol Friday after suffering a head injury in practice, Kyle Meinke of mlive.com reports. Matt Nelson took over for Sewell at right tackle during Saturday's practice. Under concussion protocols, Sewell will be required to sit out of training camp practices until at least Wednesday. Sewell started in all 17 games in 2022 and earned his first Pro Bowl selection.
