The Cowboys exercised the fifth-year team option on Parsons' rookie contract Wednesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. Per Gehlken, the star edge rusher will earn $21.32 million in 2025, but that salary may only serve as a placeholder before Parsons and the Cowboys are able to work out what's expected to be a lavish long-term deal. The 24-year-old is coming off another productive effort with the Cowboys in 2023, as he racked up 64 tackles and a career-high 14 sacks in 17 regular-season outings.... See More ... See Less

Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Another big season
Parsons recorded 64 tackles (36 solo) including 14.0 sacks with two passes defended, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery over 17 regular-season games in 2023. The versatile pass rusher delivered at least 13.0 sacks for the third straight season to begin his NFL career, finishing tied for seventh in the league with Myles Garrett. Parsons remains a threat to take down the QB on every play, but the potential departure of defensive coordinator Dan Quinn this offseason could force the 24-year-old linebacker to learn a new scheme for the first time in his career in 2024.... Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Seven tackles in loss
Parsons recorded seven tackles (two solo), including a half-sack, in Sunday's 22-20 loss to the Dolphins. Parsons wasn't quite able to be the game wrecker he has been in the past, but he did get to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for a half-sack in the loss. The linebacker will look to have a greater impact on the outcome of the game when the Cowboys host the Lions on Saturday in a crucial Week 17 matchup.... See More ... See Less -
Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Estimated as limited Wednesday
Parsons (illness) was estimated as a limited participant for Wednesday's practice, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. The Cowboys merely held a walkthrough and didn't actually practice. The third-year pro has played in all 13 games this season, racking up 44 tackles (25 solo), 14 TFLs, 27 quarterback hits, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and 12.5 sacks. He's stuffed the stat sheet and is in the mix for Defensive Player of the Year.... See More ... See Less -
Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Adds to sack total again
Parsons tallied two tackles (two solo), including a sack, during Dallas' 33-13 win versus the Eagles on Sunday. Parsons was productive once again for Dallas as he managed to record yet another sack. The 24-year-old has now compiled 12.5 sacks on the campaign, which is just one sack shy of his career high.... See More ... See Less -
Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Busy in loss to Philly
Parsons recorded nine tackles (five solo), including 1.5 sacks, in Sunday's loss to the Eagles. He piled up three QB hits in total, and Parsons collected the sack on a second-half play in which Jalen Hurts appeared to injure his knee, although it was contact from a falling DeMarcus Lawrence that seemed to do the damage. Parsons is up to 7.5 sacks through eight games this season, tying him for eighth in the league with Philly's Haason Reddick and Baltimore's Justin Madubuike.... See More ... See Less -
Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Collects sixth sack
Parsons recorded two tackles for loss, including his sixth sack of the season, in Sunday's win over the Rams. He had three QB hits in total and added in a pass defended for good measure. Parsons is on pace to top the career-high 13.5 sacks he racked up in 2022, and he could accomplish something only done once before in league history by Lawrence Taylor in 1981-83 -- be named a First-Team All-Pro in each of his first three NFL seasons.... Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Picks up fifth sack in MNF win
Parsons recorded two tackles (one solo) and one sack in Dallas' Week 6 win over the Chargers Monday night. Parsons had been quiet most of the evening before sacking Justin Herbert on what would be the Chargers' final drive of the game. The Defensive Player of the Year candidate is up to five sacks through six games, adding seven tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.... See More ... See Less -
Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Expected to play Sunday
Parsons is dealing with knee and ankle injuries but is expected to be available for Dallas' game against the 49ers on Sunday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. Parsons suffered the injuries during this past Sunday's win against New England but it didn't slow down the star pass rusher, as he still managed to log five tackles (two solo), including a sack. While the 2021 first-round pick may be a limited participant when the Cowboys resume practicing Wednesday, the injury isn't expected to keep him out of the Week 5 matchup between two of the NFC's top teams.... Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Five tackles, sack in loss
Parsons recorded five tackles (two solo), including a sack, in Sunday's 28-16 loss to the Cardinals. Although Dallas lost, Parsons secured a season-high in tackles while also notching his fourth sack of the year. The 24-year-old has now compiled 12 tackles, including four sacks, a pass deflection, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery over the first three weeks of the 2023 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Opens sack account in Week 1
Parsons recorded three tackles, including a sack, in Sunday's 40-0 rout of the Giants. The Cowboys sacked Daniel Jones seven times in total in a dominant performance, and Parsons was a constant presence in the Giants backfield even when he wasn't the one to actually bring the QB down. After delivering 26.5 sacks in 33 games over his first two NFL seasons, the Penn State product is among the favorites to lead the league in that category in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Half sack against Commanders
Parsons recorded two tackles including half a sack in Sunday's loss to Washington. The second-year defensive star saw his prolific sack pace slow down over the final six games of the regular season due to various injuries, but Parsons still finished the year with 13.5 sacks, a new career high. His ability to rebound could be one of the keys to a Cowboys victory in the wild-card round against the Buccaneers, after Parsons sacked Tom Brady twice back in Week 1 during their first meeting this season.... Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Questionable for Thursday night
Parsons (hand) is listed as questionable for Thursday's matchup with the Titans, Jane Slater of NFL Network reports. Parsons landed on the injury report Tuesday as a limited participant due to a hand injury and remained limited during Wednesday's session, ultimately taking a designation into the Week 17 game as a result. Leighton Vander Esch (neck) has already been ruled out, so if Parsons is also sidelined, the Cowboys will be without two of their starting linebackers for Thursday's primetime matchup.... Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Dealing with hand injury
Parsons was limited in practice Tuesday due to a left hand issue, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. Parsons overcame an illness to play in Week 16 against the Eagles, but he's now dealing with a left hand injury. The linebacker had the hand taped up Tuesday while speaking with reporters, though he expressed confidence that he'll be able to suit up Thursday versus Tennessee. "It's football. It's the reality of it," he said. "Play a physical sport. That's all. I'm good though."... See More ... See Less -
Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Racks up 13th sack
Parsons recorded two tackles including a sack in Sunday's overtime loss to the Jaguars. Offenses have committed extra resources to preventing Parsons from wrecking plays, and the sack was his first in three games. The second-year linebacker is still up to 13 sacks on the season, tying his rookie total in two fewer games, and he's currently fourth in the NFL in that category behind Nick Bosa (15.5), Matthew Judon (14.5) and Myles Garrett (13.5).... Cowboys' Micah Parsons: On track to play Thursday
Parsons (knee) is expected to play Thursday against the Giants, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Parsons was listed as a non-participant on Monday's practice report before being listed as limited Tuesday and Wednesday. However, the Cowboys maintained hope throughout the week that the linebacker would be able to play through his injury against the Giants, and it appears as though he'll be available for the team's Thanksgiving Day matchup.... Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Officially questionable
Parsons (knee) is listed as questionable for Thursday's matchup against the Giants, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports. Parsons logged two straight limited sessions after not practicing Monday on account of the left knee injury. The star defender suffered the injury during the Cowboys' blowout win over Minnesota, but he returned to the contest after a brief exit. Parsons didn't require an MRI on the injured knee, and after managing limited practice activity, the expectation is that he'll suit up Thanksgiving Day, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.... Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Scoop and score vs. Bears
Parsons notched four tackles (two solo) and one fumble recovery that he returned for a touchdown during Sunday's 49-29 win over the Bears. Parsons' impact can't be captured by the stat sheet alone, as his scoop and score was the product of chasing quarterback Justin Fields out of the pocket, then pursuing running back David Montgomery who caught a bail-out pass that was knocked out of his hands by Leighton Vander Esch. Even on a day that didn't see Parsons build on his sack total (eight through as many contests), the second-year sensation couldn't fail to make an impact. After the Cowboys' bye Week 9, Parsons will get a chance to take on Aaron Rodgers and the struggling Packers offense.... See More ... See Less -
Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Cleared to play Sunday
Parsons (shoulder) is active for Sunday's game against the Bears, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. Parsons was a limited participant in the Cowboys' final two Week 8 practices due to the shoulder issue, but despite being listed as questionable for Sunday's game, he never seemed to be at major risk of sitting out. The talented second-year linebacker heads into Sunday ranked second in the NFL in sacks (eight), just a half-sack behind the Patriots' Matt Judon for the league lead.... See More ... See Less -
Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Officially questionable for Week 8
Parsons (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Bears, Patrik Walker of the Cowboys' official site reports. Parsons landed on the injury report Thursday with a shoulder issue and logged back-to-back limited sessions to end Week 8 prep. The extent of the injury remains unclear, but it's certainly a concerning development for the Defensive Player of the Year candidate, who played a season-low 66 percent of the Cowboys' defensive snaps Week 7. Parsons' official availability likely won't be known until closer to Sunday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff, but if he's available in any capacity, he'll likely be a must-start option in most IDP leagues....
