  • Blues' Mathias Laferriere: Pens one-year contract

Laferriere signed a one-year, two-way contract with St. Louis on Tuesday. Laferriere, who was slated to become a restricted free agent this summer, had nine goals and 17 assists in 50 games with AHL Springfield during the 2022-23 season. The 22-year-old forward doesn't have any NHL experience yet.

  • Blues' Mathias Laferriere: Out with lower-body injury

Laferriere sustained a lower-body injury and won't be in the lineup to face the Blackhawks on Tuesday, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports. Laferriere has yet to make his NHL debut and will almost certainly make his way back to the minors for the upcoming campaign. With AHL Springfield last year, the 22-year-old center notched just three goals and six assists, not exactly the type of offensive production to warrant a call-up.

  • Blues' Mathias Laferriere: Lands entry-level deal

Laferriere signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Blues on Thursday. Laferriere has spent the last two seasons with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the QMJHL, racking up 40 goals and 115 points in 135 games. The 2018 sixth-round pick will remain with his junior club for the 2019-20 campaign, but he'll move onto the Blues' AHL affiliate in 2020-21.

  • Blues' Mathias Laferriere: Dominant in juniors

Laferriere has 22 goals and 56 points in 53 games with Cape Breton of the QMJHL. Laferriere had a solid campaign in 2017-18, compiling 12 goals and 41 points in 67 games. That production put Laferriere on the Blues' radar and he was selected in the sixth round of the 2018 NHL Draft. The 18-year-old's having a major breakout this year and ranks second on the team in points and 22nd in the league. Laferriere will likely work with the Blues during the summer and return to Canadian juniors next season since the big club has a solid foundation of forwards and he won't be eligible for the AHL until 2020-21. He's in line to make a serious impact in the NHL if his development stays on this path.
