  • Sharks' Egor Afanasyev: Inks one-year deal

Afanasyev signed a one-year, $800,000 contract with San Jose on Monday.

Afanasyev generated seven goals and 14 assists across 53 regular-season appearances with CSKA Moscow of the KHL in 2024-25 before adding four points in six playoff outings. The 24-year-old forward had one goal in 19 regular-season games with Nashville during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 NHL campaigns. Afanasyev could compete for a bottom-six role with the Sharks during training camp.

  • Sharks' Thomas Bordeleau: Dealing with concussion

Bordeleau revealed that his previously undisclosed injury is a concussion, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports Friday.

Bordeleau made his NHL season debut April 13, but then missed the Sharks' final two games due to the injury. Although he was listed as day-to-day at the time, Bordeleau admitted he wasn't actually close to returning. Still, the 23-year-old is making progress, so perhaps he'll be okay for training camp. He had 14 goals and 38 points in 59 regular-season outings with AHL San Jose in 2024-25.

  • Sharks' Mattias Havelid: Signs entry-level deal

Havelid signed an entry-level contract with the Sharks on Friday.

Havelid had an assist across 19 regular-season appearances with Linkopings of the Swedish Hockey League in 2024-25. Although that's not much offensive production, keep in mind that the 21-year-old defenseman was competing against more seasoned veterans. He had a larger impact on offense with Djurgardens of HockeyAllsvenskan, which is Sweden's second-tier league, recording two goals and 14 points across 18 regular-season outings this year. Havelid will probably start his time in North America in the minors, but he could develop into an impact player for the Sharks after being selected with the No. 45 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.

  • Sharks' Pavol Regenda: Will play at Worlds

Regenda will join Team Slovakia for the 2025 IIHF World Championship, per Max Miller of NHL.com.

Regenda had 13 goals and 41 points across 72 regular-season AHL outings between San Diego and San Jose this campaign. The 25-year-old has plenty of experience representing Slovakia, and this will be his fourth straight appearance in the World Championship. He had a goal and four points across eight outings in the 2024 tournament.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Undergoes surgery on wrist

Eklund underwent successful wrist surgery Monday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.

After a scary incident Saturday in which his wrist was cut by a skate in an exhibition contest ahead of the 2025 IIHF World Championship, Eklund will now be on the road to recovery. The 2021 first-round pick is set to miss the international tournament with Team Sweden, but he is expected to be ready for training camp in 2025-26. Peng noted that Eklund's recovery timeline is roughly three months. The 22-year-old Eklund took a step forward in his second full season with the Sharks, earning 17 goals and 58 points over 77 appearances. The left-shot winger's plus-minus rating also improved from minus-45 in 2023-24 to minus-7 in 2024-25, which highlights his progression on both ends of the ice.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Cut by skate in Czechia

Eklund is in stable condition after his wrist was cut by Filip Hronek's skate during a tune-up game Saturday ahead of the 2025 IIHF World Championship, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey News reports.

Eklund's agent, Todd Diamond, does not believe the skate "cut key tendons or nerves at the moment." The 22-year-old Eklund was taken to a local hospital after the incident in Brno, Czechia and posted on his Instagram account that "everything is fine." The World Championship begins May 9, and Eklund's hometown of Stockholm, Sweden, is co-hosting the tournament. The opportunity to represent Sweden at home would doubtlessly be memorable for the 22-year-old forward, but after that scary incident, the focus is squarely on his health and recovery.

  • Sharks' Zack Ostapchuk: Assigned to AHL

Ostapchuk (lower body) was loaned to AHL San Jose on Tuesday.

Ostapchuk sat out the Sharks' final two games of the regular season due to an injury. However, his demotion indicates that he should be an option for the Barracuda in the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs. Ostapchuk earned one goal, three assists, 26 shots on net and 110 hits across 56 NHL appearances between San Jose and Ottawa in the 2024-25 regular season.

  • Sharks' Jack Thompson: Sent to AHL

Thompson (upper body) was reassigned to AHL San Jose on Friday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Thompson is expected to suit up for AHL San Jose either Friday or Saturday in Calgary. The 23-year-old defenseman was injured Sunday versus the Flames and missed the final two games of the NHL season. He had four goals and 10 points with 54 blocked shots and a minus-9 rating over 31 NHL appearances this season.

  • Sharks' Lucas Carlsson: Heads to minors

Carlsson cleared waivers and was reassigned to AHL San Jose on Thursday.

The Sharks' campaign is over, so this is an opportunity to extend his year while assisting in the Barracuda's postseason run. Carlsson had a goal, four points, four hits and 14 blocks in 13 appearances with the Sharks in 2024-25. The 27-year-old is finishing up the first season of a two-year, two-way contract.

  • Sharks' Shakir Mukhamadullin: Undergoes shoulder surgery

Mukhamadullin underwent shoulder surgery last week, Max Miller of NHL.com reports Thursday.

Mukhamadullin is expected to be fully healthy ahead of training camp in September. The defenseman had two goals and nine assists across 30 appearances this season. He should take on a bigger role with the Sharks next season, as the 23-year-old was selected 20th overall by the Devils in 2020.

  • Sharks' Jimmy Schuldt: Reassigned to AHL

Schuldt was reassigned to AHL San Jose on Thursday.

Schuldt spent the final few days of the NHL regular season with the Sharks, and he was held without a point while logging three hits and two blocked shots over two appearances. Now that the Sharks have concluded their regular season, Schuldt will return to the minors to play for the Barracuda during the AHL playoffs.

  • Sharks' Danil Gushchin: Sent back to AHL

Gushchin was reassigned to AHL San Jose on Thursday.

Gushchin was called up Monday to provide additional assistance over the Sharks' final few games of the regular season, and he was held without a point while recording a hit and a blocked shot over two appearances during his sting with the NHL club. Now that the Sharks' regular-season schedule has concluded, Gushchin will return to the minors to contribute in the AHL playoffs.

  • Sharks' Alexandar Georgiev: Loses in finale

Georgiev stopped 25 of 27 shots in Wednesday's 3-0 loss to the Oilers. The third goal was an empty-netter.

Georgiev went 0-3-3 with 25 goals allowed over his last six games of the season. The 29-year-old ends the year at 15-26-4 with a 3.71 GAA and an .875 save percentage. Per Max Miller of NHL.com, Georgiev has already been informed he'll be a free agent this summer, as general manager Mike Grier is not interested in re-signing the struggling goalie. Given Georgiev's statistical decline over the last two years, he may not find anything more than a backup role if he stays in the NHL, though he could opt to continue his career overseas. Fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting Georgiev to make a positive impact in 2025-26, regardless of where he ends up.

  • Sharks' Jan Rutta: Good to go Wednesday

Rutta (lower body) will return to the lineup Wednesday versus the Oilers, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.

The Sharks have navigated a lot of injuries on the blue line late in the season. Rutta is back after missing Monday's game versus the Canucks following a two-month absence due to a lower-body injury. He'll play on the second pairing in the season finale.

  • Sharks' Lucas Carlsson: Waived Wednesday

Carlsson was placed on waivers Wednesday, per PuckPedia.

Carlsson has been with the Sharks since March 21, suiting up in 12 straight games. Presumably, he'll also be in the lineup Wednesday versus the Oilers for the Sharks' season finale. Should he clear waivers, he'll head to AHL San Jose to help the Barracuda's playoff run.

  • Sharks' Zack Ostapchuk: Unavailable for season finale

Ostapchuk (lower body) won't play in the Sharks' season finale against Edmonton on Wednesday, per Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News.

Ostapchuk will finish the NHL campaign with a goal, four points, 45 PIM and 110 hits in 56 outings between Ottawa and San Jose. If he recovers in time, he might report to AHL San Jose to participate in the Calder Cup Playoffs.

  • Sharks' Thomas Bordeleau: Remains day-to-day

Bordeleau (undisclosed) is still day-to-day and won't be an option versus Edmonton on Wednesday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Bordeleau will miss the Sharks' regular-season finale but may still be available when AHL San Jose kicks off the Calder Cup Playoffs. For the Barracuda this year, the 23-year-old center notched 14 goals and 24 helpers in 59 appearances. A strong showing in the postseason could help Bordeleau's case to make the Opening Night roster next year.

  • Sharks' Jack Thompson: WIll miss season finale

Thompson (upper body) is expected to miss the Sharks' season finale against Edmonton on Wednesday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Georgiev was the first goalie off during Wednesday's morning skate, Max Miller of NHL.com reports, indicating that he'll draw the home start against the Oilers.

Georgiev hasn't been particularly sharp in recent weeks, going 0-2-3 with a 4.92 GAA and .858 save percentage over his last five appearances, but he'll draw the start in Wednesday's regular-season finale. He made a home start against Edmonton on Nov. 30, turning aside 28 of 31 shots (.903 save percentage) en route to a loss.
