Top Stars News

  • Stars' Alex Petrovic: Gathers helper in win

Petrovic logged an assist and three hits in Monday's 6-2 win over the Avalanche in Game 5.

Petrovic has a helper, four shots on net, six hits and eight blocked shots over five playoff contests. He's done fine as a third-pairing defenseman alongside Lian Bichsel -- the two have played together at AHL Texas. Still, Petrovic or Bichsel will likely be the one to cede a spot in the lineup when Miro Heiskanen (knee) is ready to return.

  • Stars' Ilya Lyubushkin: Pockets helper in Game 5 win

Lyubushkin notched an assist and two blocked shots in Monday's 6-2 win over the Avalanche in Game 5.

Lyubushkin helped out on a Mikko Rantanen tally in the second period, which gave the Stars a 3-0 lead. The 31-year-old Lyubushkin ended his 10-game point drought with the assist. He had 14 points, 51 shots on net, 84 hits, 136 blocked shots and a plus-5 rating over 80 regular-season contests. The blueliner continues to provide physicality in a top-four role, but his offense is likely to remain limited.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Dishes helper in win

Duchene notched a power-play assist in Monday's 6-2 win over the Avalanche in Game 5.

Duchene set up Wyatt Johnston's second goal of the contest at 16:48 of the second period. After a 30-goal, 82-point effort over 82 regular-season games, Duchene has been quiet in the playoffs -- this was his first point in five postseason games. He's added eight shots on net, four hits, three blocked shots and a minus-3 rating against the Avalanche. The Stars have mostly succeeded on thin margins so far, but getting Duchene's offense going would help them advance to the second round.

  • Stars' Mason Marchment: Lights lamp Monday

Marchment scored a goal on two shots and blocked two shots in Monday's 6-2 win over the Avalanche in Game 5.

Marchment got his first goal of the series, stretching the Stars' lead to 5-2 late in the second period. This was also his first game without a trip to the penalty box in this first-round series. He's posted three points, 10 shots on net, 19 hits, five blocked shots and 10 PIM across five playoff outings. Marchment continues to occupy a second-line role.

  • Stars' Thomas Harley: Gets lucky bounce for goal

Harley scored a goal on two shots, went plus-2 and blocked three shots in Monday's 6-2 win over the Avalanche in Game 5.

Harley's shot bounced up and over Mackenzie Blackwood for the Stars' second goal. Things are going well for Harley, who has two goals, two assists, a plus-1 rating, five shots on net, five hits and 16 blocked shots over five playoff outings. The 23-year-old defenseman continues to play on the top pairing and will maintain a large role even when Miro Heiskanen (knee) is back in action.

  • Stars' Roope Hintz: Two-point effort Monday

Hintz scored a goal and added an assist Monday in the Stars' 6-2 win over the Avalanche in Game 5 of their first-round series.

After feeding Mikko Rantanen for what proved to be the game-winner on a 2-on-1 break early in the second period, Hintz flipped home an empty-netter late in the third. Hintz came into Monday's contest with just one point, a Game 1 power-play goal, through Dallas' first four playoff contests, but it wasn't for a lack of trying -- he's fired 18 shots on net in the series. The 28-year-old center will look to stay productive in Game 6 on Thursday as the Stars try to advance to the second round.

  • Stars' Mikko Rantanen: Pots winner in revenge game

Rantanen score the game-winning goal Monday and added two assists, one on the power play, in the Stars' 6-2 win over the Avalanche in Game 5 of their first-round series.

The 28-year-old winger began the campaign with Colorado, and he may have helped end the Avs' season with his huge performance Monday. Rantanen had produced just one assist through the first four games of the series, but after springing to life Monday, he'll take plenty of momentum into Game 6 on Thursday as the Stars look to punch their tickets to the second round.

  • Stars' Wyatt Johnston: Sets new franchise record

Johnston scored two goals, one on the power play, and added an assist Monday in the Stars' 6-2 win over the Avalanche in Game 5 of their first-round series.

The 21-year-old wrote his name in the franchise record book when he banked a shot from the corner in off Mackenzie Blackwood just nine seconds into the first period -- the fastest playoff goal in Stars history. Johnston then snuffed out a Colorado rally late in the second period with his power-play tally, giving Dallas a 4-2 lead. The goals were the first of the postseason for Johnston, who has five points in five games. He'll look to stay hot as the Stars try to advance to the second round in Game 6 on Thursday.

  • Stars' Jake Oettinger: Stands tall in Monday's win

Oettinger made 26 saves Monday in the Stars' 6-2 win over the Avalanche in Game 5 of their first-round series.

Wyatt Johnston scored just nine seconds into the game, setting a new Dallas postseason record, and Oettinger made sure his squad wouldn't lose the lead the rest of the way. After a bumpy performance in Game 1, the 26-year-old netminder has allowed three goals or fewer in four straight starts, and he'll carry a 2.58 GAA and a .914 save percentage this postseason into Game 6 on Thursday as the Stars look to advance to the second round.

  • Stars' Jake Oettinger: Tending twine in Game 5

Oettinger will patrol the home crease against Colorado on Monday in Game 5, Stars radio analyst Bruce LeVine reports.

Oettinger stopped 31 of the 34 shots he faced in Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Avalanche before sitting out the third period for rest. He has a 2-2 record with a 2.72 GAA and a .911 save percentage during the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Colorado ranks first with 34.5 shots per game this postseason.

  • Stars' Oskar Back: Back in lineup

Back (oblique) will return to action for Game 5 against Colorado on Monday, Brien Rea of FanDuel Sports Network Southwest reports.

Back returns to action after missing Game 4 and will replace Mavrik Bourque in the lineup. The 25-year-old Back will no doubt be hoping to bring his 14-game goal drought to an end in Monday's matchup. During that slump, Back has recorded just nine shots and will likely need to increase his shot volume if he is going to put one into the back of the net, though that may continue to be tough to accomplish while playing on the fourth line.

  • Stars' Miro Heiskanen: Not playing Monday

Heiskanen (knee) won't play against Colorado on Monday in Game 5, according to Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News.

Despite participating in Monday's morning skate, Heiskanen will miss his 37th straight game. He has been a regular at practices during the playoffs, but it remains unclear when he will be ready to return to the lineup. Heiskanen generated five goals, 25 points, 108 shots on net and 85 blocked shots across 50 regular-season appearances in 2024-25.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Draws in for third period of loss

DeSmith stopped 13 of 14 shots in relief of Jake Oettinger in Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Avalanche in Game 4.

Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News reports Oettinger was given the third frame off for rest after stopping 31 of 34 shots over the first two periods. DeSmith likely won't see a substantial boost in playing time over the remainder of the Stars' postseason run. The 33-year-old did well in the backup role during the regular season with a 14-8-2 record, a 2.59 GAA and a .915 save percentage over 27 outings.

  • Stars' Jake Oettinger: Faces barrage in Game 4 loss

Oettinger stopped 31 of 34 shots in Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Avalanche in Game 4.

The Stars' defense was leakier than usual, and Oettinger ended up with nearly a full game's worth of work in two periods. Casey DeSmith played in the final frame, and Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News reports Oettinger rested in the third frame and wasn't dealing with an injury. The series is even at 2-2, and Oettinger has allowed 11 goals on 123 shots over four games. He'll likely be back between the pipes on home ice Monday in Game 5.

  • Stars' Oskar Back: Unavailable Saturday

Back (oblique) isn't expected to play Saturday against Colorado in Game 4, Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News.

Back has an assist in three playoff outings this year. He recorded four goals and 16 points across 73 regular-season appearances in 2024-25. Back's absence will result in Mavrik Bourque drawing into the lineup
