  • Stars' Emil Hemming: Inks entry-level deal

Hemming signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Dallas on Monday.

Hemming supplied seven goals and 11 points in 40 regular-season games for TPS of Finland's Liiga in 2023-24. The Stars selected the 18-year-old forward with the No. 29 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. He is projected to play in Finland again during the 2024-25 campaign to continue to hone his skills.

  • Stars' Colin Blackwell: Pens one-year pact

Blackwell signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with Dallas on Tuesday.

Blackwell earned eight goals, 12 points, 88 shots on net and 45 hits across 44 regular-season appearances for Chicago in 2023-24. He has been limited to 97 games over the past two campaigns because of injuries but should occupy a fourth-line role with the Stars if he can stay healthy.

  • Stars' Cameron Hughes: Agrees to one-year deal

Hughes signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Stars on Monday.

Hughes had 25 goals and 57 points in 69 regular-season contests with AHL Coachella Valley in 2023-24. The 27-year-old forward has no points in two career NHL games, and he hasn't played a top-level game since 2020-21.

  • Stars' Kole Lind: Lands two-way deal

Lind signed a one-year, two-way deal with Dallas on Monday.

Lind dressed in just one game with Seattle last year but racked up 22 goals and 76 points over 87 games between the regular season and playoffs with AHL Coachella Valley. He has 31 games of NHL experience since the start of the 2020-21 campaign and should spend most of the 2024-25 season at the AHL level again.

  • Stars' Kyle Capobianco: Joining Dallas

Capobianco signed a two-year deal with the Stars on Monday. The contract is a two-way deal in the first season and becomes a one-way contract in the second year.

Capobianco scored two goals in 14 regular-season games with the Jets in 2022-23 but didn't see any NHL action last year. He spent most of the campaign with AHL Manitoba, where he tallied 56 points in 71 games between the regular season and playoffs. The 26-year-old blueliner will serve as organizational depth for the Stars during the 2024-25 campaign.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Inks one-year contract

Duchene signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Stars on Monday.

Duchene had 25 goals and 65 points in 80 regular-season appearances with Dallas in 2023-24. Given how well he did last year, the fact that he agreed to an identical deal to the one-year, $3 million contract he signed last year is surprising, but great news for Dallas. Duchene should continue to put up strong numbers while serving in a middle-six capacity.

  • Stars' Nils Lundkvist : Agrees to one-year deal

Lundkvist signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Stars on Monday.

Lundkvist had two goals and 19 points in 59 regular-season games in 2023-24. His role with Dallas might be limited following the signings of defensemen Matt Dumba and Ilya Lyubushkin. As a result, it wouldn't be surprising if Lundkvist ends up serving primarily as Dallas' seventh blueliner, which was a common occurrence for him down the stretch and in the playoffs last season.

  • Stars' Ilya Lyubushkin: Inks three-year agreement

Lyubushkin signed a three-year, $9.75 million contract with the Stars on Monday.

Lyubushkin had eight points (all assists), 57 PIM, 176 hits and 168 blocked shots in 74 regular-season contests between Anaheim and Toronto in 2023-24. The 30-year-old is likely to serve primarily on the third pairing with the Stars. Between Lyubushkin and Matt Dumba, who also signed a two-year deal with the Stars, Dallas is adding a lot of grit to its defense.

  • Stars' Brendan Smith: Signs one-year deal

Smith signed a one-year, $1 million contract with Dallas on Monday.

Smith accumulated five goals, 15 points, 60 shots on net, 61 PIM, 101 blocked shots and 117 hits across 63 regular-season games with New Jersey in 2023-24. He will serve as a depth defender for the Stars.

  • Stars' Matt Dumba: Makes two-year commitment

Dumba signed a two-year, $7.5 million contract with the Stars on Monday, Bob McKenzie of TSN on Monday.

Dumba had four goals, 12 points, 88 PIM, 202 hits and 108 blocked shots in 76 regular-season contests between Arizona and Tampa Bay in 2023-24. There's an opportunity for him to serve in a top-four capacity with the Stars, though he's unlikely to see much, if any, time with the man advantage.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Signs three-year deal

DeSmith signed a three-year, $3 million contract with the Stars on Monday, Stars radio analyst Bruce LeVine reports.

DeSmith had a 12-9-6 record, 2.89 GAA and .895 save percentage in 29 regular-season contests with the Canucks in 2023-24. He'll serve as Jake Oettinger's understudy in Dallas and is likely to be used somewhat sparingly so long as Oettinger remains healthy.

  • Stars' Sam Steel: Back with Dallas

Steel signed a one-year, $1.2 million contract with the Stars on Sunday, per CapFriendly.

Steel wasn't qualified by Dallas but the team didn't let him get to the open market. He tallied nine goals and 24 points in 77 regular-season games last year and added another five points in 19 postseason appearances. Steel should maintain a bottom-six role during the 2024-25 campaign.

  • Stars' Max Ellis: Obtained in trade

Dallas acquired Ellis and a 2026 seventh-round pick from Toronto on Saturday in exchange for the negotiation rights of Chris Tanev.

Ellis, a pending restricted free agent with arbitration rights, earned four goals and 14 points in 36 games with AHL Toronto during the 2023-24 campaign. The 24-year-old forward doesn't have any NHL experience yet. Assuming he signs with the Stars, he will probably start next season in the minors.

  • Stars' Emil Hemming: Dallas-bound in first round

Hemming was the 29th overall pick by the Stars in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Friday.

Hemming is a natural scorer with a load of offensive talent, including a pro shot and he's smart. His ability to play strong defensive hockey means his floor is as a third-line checker. Hemming's skills could get him to the second line, but he needs to stay engaged and prove that he can go to the interior and score. He's young -- he turned 18 the day before the draft. There's plenty of time for Hemming to develop his game before he comes to Dallas.

The veteran defenseman played only one regular-season game with the Stars this season -- the first NHL action he had seen since the 2018-19 campaign, when he played 35 games split between Edmonton and Florida. The Stars used Petrovic in seven playoff games this season and while he was unable to pick up a point, he managed 14 hits and four blocked shots.

Back collected seven goals and 36 points in 59 regular-season contests for AHL Texas in 2023-24. The 24-year-old forward doesn't have any NHL experience yet. Back will probably spend most, if not all, of the 2024-25 campaign in the minors.

Blumel had 31 goals and 62 points in 72 regular-season contests with AHL Texas in 2023-24. He also provided five goals and nine points in seven playoff games with the minor-league squad. He was eligible to become a restricted free agent this summer after completing his entry-level contract.

  • Stars' Chris Tanev: Dealing with tendon injury

Tanev (ankle) is recovering from a tendon injury, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports Friday.

Tanev had two goals, 19 points, 24 PIM, 45 hits and 207 blocks in 75 regular-season outings between Calgary and Dallas in 2023-24. He also recorded two assists, 30 hits and 73 blocks across 19 playoff contests with the Stars. He played in two contests after suffering the injury in Game 4 versus Edmonton, so he should be fine for the start of the 2024-25 campaign. The 34-year-old is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent in July.

  • Stars' Jani Hakanpaa: Recovering from knee injury

Hakanpaa's lower-body injury is a knee issue that required an arthroscopic procedure, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports Friday.

Hakanpaa didn't play past March 16 because of the injury. He had two goals, 12 points, 33 PIM, 196 hits and 123 blocks in 64 regular-season outings in 2023-24. Although there isn't a specific timetable for Hakanpaa's recovery, he's not expected to need further knee procedures.
