Red Wings' Jasper Weatherby: Acquired by Red Wings
Weatherby was acquired by Detroit from San Jose in exchange for Kyle Criscuolo on Wednesday.
Weatherby has three goals and six points in 39 contests in 2022-23 with the AHL's Barracuda. Although he hasn't played in the NHL this season, the 24-year-old did have five goals and 11 points in 50 games with the Sharks in 2021-22.

Weatherby was involved in a couple of milestones, assisting on the first NHL goals for both Scott Reedy and Jonah Gadjovich. The 24-year-old Weatherby also had a milestone with his first multi-assist effort -- his only other two-point game came in the season opener versus the Jets. The Oregon native has 10 points, 42 shots on net, 46 hits and 16 PIM through 44 contests, mainly filling a fourth-line role.

Weatherby will swaps places with Lane Pederson, who was waived Monday and assigned to the Barracuda on Tuesday. The 24-year-old Weatherby has seven points, 42 hits, 41 shots on goal and a minus-14 rating in 40 appearances this season. He's expected to center the fourth line Tuesday versus the Ducks.

Sharks' Jasper Weatherby: Recalled from AHL
Weatherby was summoned to the NHL by San Jose on Saturday.
Weatherby logged one assist through eight December appearances for San Jose prior to being assigned to the AHL affiliate. Over his two AHL appearances, he logged one assist. The 23-year-old battled through an eight-game point NHL-level drought in November, and he is currently in the midst of a four-game dry spell. He will be eager to prevent another elongated stretch without a point upon his return to the NHL.

Weatherby hasn't scored a goal in 24 games while notching just 25 shots over that stretch. The 23-year-old center garnered a mere three assists over that stretch, so his demotion is unlikely to impact the majority of fantasy players. Still, with the Sharks off until Dec. 27 against the Ducks, Weatherby's demotion may be no more than a cap-saving measure for the club with the Oregon native set to be recalled before the clash with the Ducks.

He sees some power-play time on the second unit, so he could be worth a look in deep formats.

Despite playing in a fourth-line role, Weatherby has been solid with four points, nine shots on net and 12 hits through nine contests. The American forward has earned a role on the second power-play unit, which should keep him productive enough to draw interest in deep fantasy formats.

Weatherby got the Sharks on the board late in the first period, taking a drop pass inside the left circle and snapping one blocker side to make it a 3-1 game. It was the second goal of the year for the rookie Weatherby, who has three points in five games to open his NHL career.

Sharks' Jasper Weatherby: Earns first two career points
Weatherby scored a goal and added an assist, both on the power play, in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Jets.
Weatherby appears set to play a role on the power play right away, and he scored his first NHL goal in his debut. The 23-year-old also set up a Tomas Hertl goal in the third period. Weatherby logged just 10:25 of total ice time, but if he continues to put up points, head coach Bob Boughner will likely have to move him up the lineup after he won a big-club job out of training camp. The Oregon native was signed out of the University of North Dakota in August.
