Kraken's Jacob Melanson: Sent down Thursday
Melanson was reassigned to AHL Coachella Valley on Thursday, Sound of Hockey reports.
Melanson had been with the Kraken since mid-December, and he recorded a goal, three assists, 66 hits and six blocked shots while averaging 9:25 of ice time over 15 appearances with Seattle. However, he'll head back to the minors since Brandon Montour (hand) was activated from injured reserve ahead of Thursday's game in Boston.

Kraken's Jacob Melanson: Scores equalizer Monday
Melanson scored a goal and added five hits in Monday's 5-1 win over the Flames.
Melanson is on a four-game point streak after potting his first NHL goal to tie Monday's contest at 1-1 early in the second period. The 22-year-old has displayed immediate chemistry with Ryan Winterton and Ben Meyers, giving the Kraken an effective fourth line. Melanson could still be at risk of a demotion once Jaden Schwartz (lower body) is healthy enough to play. Melanson has four points, nine shots on net, 47 hits and an even plus-minus rating over 11 appearances this season.

Kraken's Jacob Melanson: Registers first NHL assist
Melanson logged an assist and four hits in Monday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Canucks.
The helper was Melanson's first NHL point in nine career appearances. The 22-year-old winger provides grit in a bottom-six role, but his offense hasn't followed him since his Dec. 13 call-up from AHL Coachella Valley. Melanson has a helper, six shots on net and 35 hits over eight outings with the Kraken this year. He'll compete with Tye Kartye, Jani Nyman and Ryan Winterton for spots on the wings of Seattle's fourth line.

Melanson was called up from AHL Coachella Valley on Saturday.
Melanson has 14 points, 26 PIM and a plus-5 rating over 23 contests for the Firebirds this year. He's up with the Kraken to take the roster spot of Jared McCann (lower body), who went on injured reserve in a corresponding move. Melanson is likely to see bottom-six minutes if he plays during this call-up.

Kraken's Jacob Melanson: Doubles goal count with hat trick
Melson scored three goals on five shots in AHL Coachella Valley's 5-2 win over Abbotsford on Sunday.
The hat trick doubled Melanson's goal total on the year. He's at six tallies, 10 points, 37 shots on net, 22 PM and a plus-4 rating through 14 appearances. The 22-year-old had just 13 points over 42 regular-season contests in 2024-25, so he's well on his way to taking a step up on offense, though he's unlikely to be elite in that area. Melanson also made his NHL debut for the Kraken last year, and his style of play could be a good fit in a bottom-six role within a couple of years.

Kraken's Jacob Melanson: Sent down by Seattle
Melanson was sent to AHL Coachella Valley on Friday, Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle reports.
Melanson was recalled by the Kraken on Wednesday, and he made his NHL debut Thursday against Nashville. He was held without a point and recorded four hits while logging 9:53 of ice time in the 5-3 loss. He'll be eligible to take part in the AHL playoffs after being sent down Friday, but it's also possible that he rejoins the Kraken at some point now that the trade deadline has passed.

Kraken's Jacob Melanson: Recalled from AHL
Melanson was summoned by Seattle on Wednesday.
Melanson has seven goals, 10 points and 34 PIM in 27 appearances with AHL Coachella Valley in 2024-25. Seattle traded Oliver Bjorkstrand and Yanni Gourde to Tampa Bay, so Melanson might remain with the Kraken for the remainder of the season.

Kraken's Jacob Melanson: Handed two-game suspension
The NHL has suspended Melanson for two games for an illegal check to the head of Edmonton's James Hamblin in a preseason contest Monday.
The NHL ruled that Melanson's hit made the head the main point of contact and that the head contact was avoidable. Melanson signed an entry-level contract in July and isn't expected to make the Kraken's roster to open the season.
