Oilers' Sam Gagner: Won't play in preseason games
Gagner (hip) won't play in preseason games and will be evaluated in October, Jim Matheson of The Edmonton Journal reports.
Gagner is evidently still recovering from hip surgery he underwent in the offseason. He will practice with the Oilers, but it appears there's a good chance he'll play his first games of the season with AHL Bakersfield before being an option for the NHL club.

Gagner (hip) agreed to a professional tryout agreement with Edmonton on Monday.
Gagner produced eight goals, 14 points and 78 shots on net in 48 appearances with Winnipeg during the 2022-23 campaign. Assuming he has recovered from the hip surgery that ended his season in March, the 34-year-old will compete for a fourth-line role with the Oilers during training camp.
