Tion Green: Released by Indianapolis
Green was waived by the Colts on Monday, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
This is the second time in a week that Green has been waived by the Colts, who seems to have only been considered as a camp body by the team. Green was released to make room or linebacker Brandon Chubb, and the second-year running back will hope to stick elsewhere in the league.

Green was brought back Wednesday following the release of Josh Ferguson (groin). Green still faces an uphill battle in terms of earning a spot on the 53-man roster, but he'll now at least have a fighting chance.

Colts' Tion Green: Picked up by Colts
The Colts and Green agreed to a contract Tuesday.
Green accumulated 165 yards and two touchdowns on 42 carries to go along with two receptions for 14 yards across five games as a rookie for the Lions last season. There are a plethora of running backs already on the Colts' depth chart, but several are nursing injuries, which could give Green an opportunity to impress right away. Still, he figures to have an uphill battle in terms of making the team's final roster.

Green was waived by the Lions on Thursday
The drafting of Kerryon Johnson and addition of LeGarrette Blount figured to spell the end for one, if not more, of the Lions' running backs who were in the mix last season. Green is an early casualty on that front, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the Cincinnati product scooped up off of waivers by another club.

Lions' Tion Green: May be in team's 2018 plan
Green could remain a part of the Lions' backfield mix in 2018, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
An undrafted rookie last season, Green make his NFL debut until December, at which point he took 42 carries for 165 yards and two touchdowns over the final five weeks of the season. The Lions likely hope to find an upgrade in the backfield during the offseason, but it isn't out of the question that they devote resources to other positions and simply allow Green, Ameer Abdullah and Dwayne Washington to compete for carries in training camp. The 220-pound Green is more powerful than Abdullah, but Green's lack of pass-catching skills will make it tough to earn anything more than a bit role in the Detroit offense.

Lions' Tion Green: Modest workload in finale
Green rushed nine times for 21 yards while catching both of his targets for 14 yards during Sunday's 35-11 victory over Green Bay.
With the Lions out of postseason contention, many thought the coaching staff would want to see what their undrafted rookie can do with a heavy workload. However, that narrative failed to come to fruition despite starter Theo Riddick (ribs) exiting the game early in the third quarter. Instead, Green continued to receive a modest amount of touches that he turned into an underwhelming 35 total yards. With that said, Green once again worked ahead of Ameer Abdullah and appears to be entering the offseason as the No. 2 runner on the depth chart. However, both Riddick and Abdullah remain under contract in 2018 as well, and Detroit probably will attempt to bolster its running back stable through free agency or the draft.

Lions' Tion Green: Finds paydirt in Cincy
Green rushed seven times for 43 yards and one touchdown during Sunday's 26-17 loss to the Bengals.
The rookie returned to his former college town to log his second touchdown in the last four games. Green also continued to be the Lions' most efficient runner, as his current 4.4 YPC mark dwarfs those of Riddick and Abdullah, who each possess a season average of 3.4 yards per carry. However, Green vastly trailed Theo Riddick in snaps (13 to 40, respectively) Sunday and essentially split the backup job with the embattled Ameer Abdullah, who carried six times for 21 yards across 11 snaps. It seems unlikely the Lions turn away from this committee approach in Week 17 against the Packers.

Lions' Tion Green: Remains No. 2 runner
Green carried 10 times for 35 yards but wasn't targeted in the passing game during Saturday's 20-10 victory over the Bears.
Green didn't play much in the first half, as Theo Riddick (wrist) led the pack with 30 offensive snaps, compared to seven for Green and four for Ameer Abdullah. However, Green started the second half and saw more playing time as the game went on, ultimately finishing with 23 reps, compared to 33 for Riddick and eight for Abdullah. With that said, Riddick exited with an injury in the fourth quarter with plenty of time remaining, so the final playing-time distribution is slightly skewed in Green's favor. Regardless, if Saturday's game was any indication, Green seems to have surpassed Abdullah for the No. 2 slot on the depth chart, which is a role that should command eight-to-10 carries on a weekly basis with potential goal-line responsibilities on the side. In Week 16, Green and the Lions will square off with a Bengals defense that's allowed only 6.6 yards per carry this season, sixth-best in the league.

Lions' Tion Green: Endures disappointing encore
Green rushed five times for 15 yards during Sunday's 24-21 victory over Tampa Bay.
Green didn't receive the workload many expected after rushing for 51 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries during last week's loss to Baltimore, especially with Ameer Abdullah (neck) sidelined again. Making matter worse is that Green wasn't nearly as efficient with his touches, either. Instead, it was Theo Riddick who lead the charge, considering the scatback totaled 10 carries and accounted for both of the team's rushing touchdowns. If Abdullah continues to sit in Week 15, Sunday's game indicated that Riddick is the preferred play in the Lions backfield, though Detroit runners will be up against a Bears defense allowing just 3.9 yards per carry.

Lions' Tion Green: Larger role expected Sunday
With Ameer Abdullah (neck) sidelined, Green will take on a larger role in the Lions offense Sunday in Tampa Bay.
The Lions are exploring different combinations out of the backfield. Like a week ago, Theo Riddick will likely earn more reps, but Green should also get in the act with Abdullah and Dwayne Washington in street clothes. Last Sunday in Baltimore, Green picked up 21 of 63 offensive snaps, which translated to 11 rushes for 51 yards and one touchdown.

Lions' Tion Green: Finds end zone versus Ravens
Green carried 11 times for 51 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 44-20 loss tot he Ravens.
Seeing his first action of the year, Green averaged a respectable 4.6 yards per carry against a stout opponent and found the end zone from six yards out in the third quarter. The absence of Ameer Abdullah (neck) was the driving factor behind Green's involvement, and though the latter could return next week against the Buccaneers, the rookie's performance could earn him some sort of a role moving forward for a team that's struggled to run the ball this season.

Green won the No. 5 job at running back, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
The Lions already knew Green could be an asset on special teams, but they were probably pleasantly surprised by his scintillating offensive performance in the preseason finale, where Green carried eight times for 63 yards and caught four passes for 87 yards and a score -- including a 74-yard catch and run in which Green broke multiple tackles before weaving his way into the painted area. However, as the No. 5 runner in Detroit, Green's at least a couple injuries away from gaining any fantasy relevance.

The undrafted rookie out of Cincinnati is hoping the Lions keep five running backs, as Ameer Abdullah, Theo Riddick, Dwayne Washington and Zach Zenner (undisclosed) are all seemingly locks to make the roster. Despite his impressive showing in Thursday's exhibition, Green seems more likely to land on the Lions' practice squad.

Lions' Tion Green: In three-man competition for roster spot
Green is in competition with Matt Asiata and Mike James for the Lions' possible No. 5 running back spot, Tim Twentyman of the team's official site reports.
The Lions have phased the fullback position out of their offense, which opens the door for the team to carry a fifth running back on the roster behind Ameer Abdullah, Theo Riddick (wrist), Zach Zenner and Dwayne Washington. The thick Green, who stands 6-foot, 230 pounds, went undrafted out of Cincinnati but was in consistent contact with Lions running backs coach David Walker months leading up to the draft due to Walker's belief of Green's fit in Detroit, according to Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Press. While Green only ran for 743 yards and two touchdowns for the Bearcats last year, he played on most special teams units, from field-goal protection to punt coverage. His versatility likely separates him from Asiata and James, in addition to the fact the Lions would save a slightly higher sum of cash if they parted ways with the other two over him. However, if Green ultimately makes the team, he would likely be multiple injuries away from gaining fantasy relevance.
