  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Still on track to start Sunday

Head coach Mike McDaniel noted Friday that it's unlikely Huntley's fellow QB Tua Tagovailoa (hip) will see any action in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Jets, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports. As a result, the Dolphins are preparing as though Huntley will start at QB for the team on Sunday. While filling in for Tagovailoa in Week 17, Huntley completed 22 of his 26 pass attempts for 225 yards and a touchdown while rushing seven times for 52 yards and another score in Miami's 20-3 win over the Browns. The 8-8 Dolphins need to secure a win (combined with a Denver loss) in their 4:25 p.m. ET contest in order to have a chance to qualify for a playoff spot.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Trending toward another start

Head coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that the Dolphins are preparing as though Huntley will start Sunday against the Jets rather than Tua Tagovailoa (hip), Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports. Wolfe notes that Tagovailoa is slated to be a limited participant in practice Wednesday, and a decision on Miami's starting quarterback for Sunday likely won't be made until the end of the week. That said, Huntley looks to be trending toward another start, on the heels of helming the Dolphins' 20-3 win over the Browns this past weekend. He turned in perhaps the finest performance of his five-year career in Week 17, completing 22 of 26 pass attempts for 225 yards, one touchdown and no interception while adding 52 yards and another score on seven carries.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Week 18 Waiver Priority List

Keep an eye on what happens with Tua Tagovailoa (hip) in Week 18, and if he's out again, then Huntley could be an option in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues at the Jets. Huntley was a nice surprise in Week 17 at Cleveland with 225 passing yards and a touchdown and 52 rushing yards and a touchdown for 26.2 Fantasy points. The Jets have struggled with rushing quarterbacks all season, and three quarterbacks in the past four games have scored at least 22.7 Fantasy points.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Will get most practice reps Week 18

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that Huntley will get more practice reps than Tua Tagovailoa (hip) this week, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. Though Tagovailoa hasn't been ruled out for Week 18, McDaniel said the team is in a "gray area" regarding the star quarterback due to his hip injury, per Jackson. With Huntley slated to get most of the reps in practice this week, it appears he has a better chance than Tagovailoa of starting against the Jets on Sunday in a game the Dolphins must win in order to have any chance of making the postseason. Huntley led the team to a victory Sunday versus the Browns, performing well with 225 passing yards and a touchdown while completing 22 of 26 attempts and adding 52 yards and another score on the ground.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Performs well in spot-start

Huntley completed 22 of 26 pass attempts for 225 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 52 yards and another score on seven carries in Sunday's 20-3 victory over the Browns. Huntley got the nod under center in place of Tua Tagovailoa (hip) and provided DFS players and deep-league managers with a strong fantasy total in Week 17. The long-time Baltimore backup stepped up to the occasion at a crucial point of the season for the Dolphins in order to keep the team's playoff hopes alive. Tagovailoa's status for Week 18 is still uncertain, but the team will obviously start its top option should he be available for next Sunday's regular-season finale against the Jets.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Starting in place of Tagovailoa

With Tua Tagovailoa (hip) inactive, Huntley is slated to start Sunday's game against the Browns, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports. As a result of Tagovailoa (who had been listed as doubtful) being unable to helm Miami's offense Sunday, Huntley will be making his fourth start of the season. In that fill-in role, Huntley offers a lineup option for fantasy managers in Superflex formats or who are otherwise in need of Week 17 QB help. However, given the rate of production that he put up while previously subbing for Tagovailoa (377 passing yards with a TD and an interception/16 carries for 67 yards and a rushing score in three games), expectations should be tempered for Huntley, as well as Miami's Week 17 pass catchers, a group led by WR Tyreek Hill and TE Jonnu Smith.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Could start, with Tua doubtful

Huntley is expected to start Sunday's game against the Browns after the Dolphins downgraded Tua Tagovailoa (hip) from questionable to doubtful, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN reports. Unless Tagovailoa shows dramatic improvement leading up to Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff, he looks as though he'll be sidelined for the first time since Week 7. In such a scenario, Huntley would be in line for his fourth start of the season, with Skylar Thompson serving as his backup. While Huntley thus represents a possible lineup option for fantasy managers who are still playing in Week 17, his presence under center would amount to a downgrade to all of Miami's pass catchers. In his previous three starts, Huntley accounted for 67 rushing yards and a score on the ground but struggled as a passer, throwing one touchdown against one interception while completing 59.1 percent of his throws for 5.7 yards per attempt.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Moves up depth chart

Huntley will serve as the Dolphins' No. 2 quarterback against the Jets on Sunday, Alain Poupart of SI.com reports. Huntley served as Miami's starting quarterback when Tua Tagovailoa missed time due to a concussion earlier this season. However, the Utah product suffered a shoulder injury in his final start that led to an IR stint and resulted in Skylar Thompson moving into the backup role. Despite being healthy for a Thanksgiving Day matchup, Huntley was inactive, but he and Thompson are apparently set to swap roles in Week 14.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Emergency QB against Packers

Huntley (coach's decision) is inactive but will serve as the Dolphins' emergency quarterback against the Packers on Thursday. Huntley was activated off injured reserve earlier Thursday after missing the Dolphins' last five games due to a right shoulder injury. He will only see the field if Tua Tagovailoa and Skylar Thompson are injured during Thursday's game.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Activated off IR

The Dolphins activated Huntley (shoulder) off injured reserve Thursday. Huntley injured his right shoulder during the Dolphins' Week 7 loss to the Colts, and he was placed on injured reserve Oct. 25. It's unclear whether Huntley or Skylar Thompson will serve as Miami's backup quarterback behind Tua Tagovailoa for Thursday's game against the Packers.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Hurts shoulder Sunday

Huntley was forced out of Sunday's game against the Colts with a right shoulder injury. Before sustaining his injury, Huntley completed seven of his 13 passing attempts for 87 yards and a TD and logged five carries for 20 yards. In his absence, Tim Boyle is in at QB for the Dolphins, with Skylar Thompson serving as the team's emergency third quarterback.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Likely getting another start

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Monday he would "guess to forecast" that Huntley will start Week 7 against the Colts even if Skylar Thompson (ribs) returns to full health, Alain Poupart of SI.com reports. Miami managed to scrape to a 15-10 win over the Patriots with Huntley under center Week 5, but he completed just 18 of 31 passes for 194 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. Huntley's dual-threat capabilities also weren't much of a factor, as he rushed only three times for seven yards. Still, Huntley has looked like the Dolphins' most capable quarterback option with Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) not eligible to come off IR until Week 8. With the benefit of a bye to continue improving his grasp on the offensive system, Huntley will look to command a more productive offense on the road in Indianapolis on Sunday, Oct. 20.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Pedestrian numbers in win

Huntley completed 18 of 31 passes for 194 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and rushed three times for seven yards in the Dolphins' 15-10 win over the Patriots on Sunday. Huntley put together another lackluster performance overall, and unlike in a Monday night loss to the Titans six days earlier, he couldn't complement his passing production with his legs. However, Huntley did look smoother when dropping back, more than doubling the 96 passing yards he'd mustered versus Tennessee and connecting with the trio of Tyreek Hill, Jonnu Smith and Jaylen Waddle on 15 occasions. Given Miami was able to pull off the road win, Huntley figures to retain the starting job for a Week 7 road matchup against the Colts on Sunday, Oct. 20 following a Week 6 bye, the final game before Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) is eligible to come off injured reserve.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: In consideration for Week 4 start

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Tuesday that Huntley is a "possibility" to start Monday's game against the Titans, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The Dolphins signed Huntley off Baltimore's practice squad ahead of the team's Week 3 loss to Seattle, a game in which Skylar Thompson (rib) and Tim Boyle both struggled to get anything going on offense. Huntley has had limited time to integrate himself to Miami's scheme, but the dual-threat abilities he flashed during his time with the Ravens could nonetheless give the Dolphins the best chance to win of their current options at the quarterback position. McDaniel hinted Tuesday that the team may hold an open competition at the quarterback position during practices this week, according to Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post, though Thompson is considered day-to-day due to the rib injury sustained in the loss to the Seahawks.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Poached by Miami

The Dolphins are slated to sign Huntley off the Ravens' practice squad Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Huntley joins Miami's active roster with Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) working his way through the NFL's protocol for brain injuries, and without a timeline for his return. The Dolphins look primed to start Skylar Thompson on the road versus Seattle on Sunday, but once Huntley is up to speed with the offense, he could be a candidate to make appearances under center. The 26-year-old spent the offseason in Cleveland before returning to Baltimore in early September.

  • Tyler Huntley: Will work as emergency third QB

Huntley, who recently signed to Baltimore's practice squad, will work as the Ravens' No. 3 quarterback at the start of the regular season, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports. After Huntley was released by Cleveland on Thursday, the Ravens quickly swooped in to reunite with the veteran signal-caller. There was some initial thought that Huntley would immediately take over as Baltimore's backup quarterback in place of Josh Johnson, but for the time being Johnson will remain the first option behind Lamar Jackson while Huntley begins the campaign in the emergency QB role. Huntley could eventually retake the No. 2 slot that he held over the previous four seasons.

  • Tyler Huntley: Reunion with Ravens coming

Huntley is expected to sign a contract with Baltimore on Friday, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports. Huntley has previously thrived as the backup to Lamar Jackson, and the Ravens are in need of an upgrade at the No. 2 spot over the 38-year-old Josh Johnson. Over the last four years with Baltimore, Huntley logged 20 appearances and nine starts. His effectiveness as a rusher will allow the Ravens to maintain some cohesiveness on offense even in the event that Jackson is forced to miss time at some point this season. The 26-year-old spent the offseason in Cleveland before being released by the team Thursday.

  • Browns' Tyler Huntley: Could be traded

The Browns will field trade offers for Huntley after the team kept four quarterbacks on their initial 53-man roster, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. In addition to Huntley, the Browns are reportedly also entertaining offers on Jameis Winston. The implication is that the Browns view Dorian Thompson-Robinson as the team's top backup to Deshaun Watson.

  • Browns' Tyler Huntley: Plays second half

Huntley completed 14 of 20 passes for 135 yards with two interceptions in Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings. He also gained 19 yards on four carries. Huntley, who ended up leading the club in rushing yards, spent most of the time scrambling, as the Browns sustained multiple injuries along the offensive line. He played the second half after Dorian Thompson-Robinson opened the game, and the two are locked in a battle for the No. 3 job, per Zac Jackson of The Athletic. The Browns like Huntley's ability to scramble and extend plays, but he was forced to run too much Saturday.

  • Ravens' Tyler Huntley: Capable showing in contract year

Huntley finished the 2023 regular season having completed 21 of 37 passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns over five games. He added 15 carries for 55 yards. The bulk of Huntley's production came in his lone start during the final game of the regular season, when he went 15 for 28 for 146 yards with one touchdown. His other appearances came in blowout wins over the Browns, Lions, Seahawks and Dolphins. Huntley could be heading toward an impasse with the Ravens, as he's set to become an unrestricted free agent just as Lamar Jackson's $260 million contract extension kicks in, Baltimore may opt for a more cost-efficient backup quarterback as a result. The fact that the team traded for rookie quarterback Malik Cunningham during the season only strengthens that notion. Should Huntley hit the open market, he'd be a strong option for any team looking to bolster its quarterback room. However, it's unlikely that he would be brought in anywhere with a serious expectation to start.
