  • Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Receives five-year contract

Luukkonen signed a five-year, $23.75 million contract with the Sabres on Wednesday.

Luukkonen was slated for an arbitration hearing, but the two sides were able to reach an agreement on their own. The 25-year-old netminder had a breakout 2023-24 campaign, going 27-22-4 with a 2.57 GAA and a .910 save percentage in 54 contests. While the Sabres also have Devon Levi around, Luukkonen appears set to be the team's No. 1 goalie for a majority of the remainder of this decade.

  • Sabres' Beck Malenstyn: Secures two-year pact

Malenstyn and the Sabres agreed to terms on a two-year, $2.7 million contract Tuesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Malenstyn was brought in via trade by Buffalo from Washington before the 2024 NHL Draft but needed to agree to new terms as a restricted free agent. Last season, the 26-year-old natural center saw action in 81 games for the Caps in which he generated six goals and 15 assists, all career bests. He figures to slot into a bottom-six role for the Sabres this year and likely has a ceiling in the 25-30-point range.

  • Sabres' Konsta Helenius: Signs entry-level contract

Helenius signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Buffalo on Monday.

Helenius notched 14 goals and 36 points in 51 regular-season contests for Jukurit of Finland's Liiga in 2023-24. He also added two tallies and four helpers in six playoff outings. The Sabres selected the 18-year-old forward with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. After being loaned to Jukurit for the past two seasons, Helenius is projected to play for Tappara in Finland's top league during the upcoming campaign.

  • Sabres' Henri Jokiharju: Re-signs Friday

Jokiharju signed a one-year, $3.1 million contract with the Sabres on Friday.

Jokiharju was a restricted free agent after completing his three-year, $7.5 million deal. He had three goals, 20 points, a plus-14 rating, 92 hits and 106 blocks in 74 outings in 2023-24. He'll likely serve in a top-four capacity during the upcoming campaign.

  • Sabres' Tyler Tullio: Getting change of scenery

Tullio was acquired by the Sabres from the Oilers along with Ryan McLeod on Friday in exchange for Matthew Savoie, per Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton.

Tullio had nine goals and 21 points in 54 regular-season contests with AHL Bakersfield in 2023-24. Edmonton took him with the No. 126 overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. Tullio will likely start the 2024-25 campaign in the minors.

  • Sabres' Ryan McLeod: Involved in trade

McLeod was acquired by the Sabres from the Oilers along with Tyler Tullio on Friday in exchange for Matthew Savoie, according to Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton.

Edmonton was presumably looking to clear McLeod's $2.1 million cap hit for the 2024-25 campaign despite the 24-year-old holding his own last campaign. McLeod had 12 goals and 30 points across 81 regular-season contests, but he was likely to be relegated to the fourth line for 2024-25 after Edmonton re-signed Adam Henrique and brought in free agents Viktor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner. McLeod might earn a role on Buffalo's third unit.

  • Sabres' Colton Poolman: Inks one-year contract

Poolman signed a one-year, two-way contract with Buffalo on Tuesday.

Poolman chipped in three goals and three assists across 66 regular-season outings with AHL Calgary in 2023-24. The 28-year-old defender doesn't have any NHL experience. Poolman will likely begin the 2024-25 campaign in the minors.

  • Sabres' James Reimer: Signs one-year deal

Reimer inked a one-year, $1 million contract with Buffalo on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old Reimer will join an extremely young goalie group that includes Devon Levi (22), Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (25) and recently signed Felix Sandstrom (27). Barring some standout performances in training camp, Reimer figures to enter the year as the No. 2 option behind Luukkonen, though he could be shipped down to the minors to serve as an emergency depth option as well.

  • Sabres' Felix Sandstrom: Signs two-way pact

Sandstrom agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with the Sabres on Monday.

Sandstrom has struggled at the NHL level, going 4-18-4 with a 3.66 GAA and .880 save percentage in 30 games while with the Flyers over the last three years. With Philadelphia moving in a different direction after signing Ivan Fedotov to compete with Samuel Ersson, the 27-year-old Sandstrom joins a Sabres organization that is significantly less certain when it comes to the goaltending position. Sandstrom will almost certainly start the year in the minors but could get called up if he can prove himself with AHL Rochester.

  • Sabres' Jack Rathbone: Secures one-year deal

Rathbone signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Sabres on Monday.

Rathbone had nine goals and 25 points across 69 AHL regular-season contests between Abbotsford and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last year. The 25-year-old also has two goals and five points in 28 career NHL appearances. He'll likely spend most of 2024-25 with AHL Rochester but could push for an NHL job in training camp.

  • Sabres' Brett Murray: Re-ups with club for another year

Murray signed a one-year, two-way contract with Buffalo on Monday.

For the third straight year, Murray has agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the Sabres at the start of free agency. Those contracts haven't turned into NHL opportunities, as the 25-year-old winger has logged just two games with Buffalo over the last two seasons. As such, fantasy managers should expect Murray to continue serving as a depth player with AHL Rochester.

  • Sabres' Mason Jobst: Agrees to one-year contract

Jobst signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Sabres on Monday.

Jobst had 22 goals and 50 points in 64 regular-season contests with AHL Rochester in 2023-24. The 30-year-old has never played at the NHL level.

  • Sabres' Josh Dunne: Inks two-way agreement

Dunne signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Sabres on Monday.

Dunne had two goals and seven points in 25 regular-season contests with AHL Cleveland in 2023-24. The 25-year-old is unlikely to play for the Sabres in the upcoming campaign, and he has yet to record a point over 14 NHL appearances with Columbus.

  • Sabres' Dennis Gilbert: Agrees to one-year contract

Gilbert signed a one-year, $825,000 contract with the Sabres on Monday.

Gilbert had a goal, seven points, 59 hits and 49 blocked shots in 34 appearances with the Flames in 2023-24. The 27-year-old has a real shot of making the Sabres' roster out of training camp, but even if Gilbert makes the team, he probably won't play much for Buffalo.

  • Sabres' Jacob Bryson: Inks one-year pact

Bryson signed a one-year, $900,000 contract with Buffalo on Monday.

Bryson played in a mere 36 games for Buffalo last season, notching one goal, seven assists and 15 shots on net while averaging 14:41 of ice time. The 26-year-old blueliner is far from a lock for the lineup on a nightly basis and could spend significant chunks of the season serving as a healthy scratch.

  • Sabres' Nicolas Aube-Kubel: Agrees to one-year deal

Aube-Kubel signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with Buffalo on Monday.

Aube-Kubel supplied six goals, 16 points, 58 shots on net and 159 hits over 60 regular-season outings for Washington in 2023-24. The 28-year-old forward will add some energy to the bottom-six group of the Sabres.

  • Sabres' Jason Zucker: Signs one-year deal

Zucker signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Sabres on Monday, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Zucker had 14 goals, 32 points, 81 PIM and 98 hits in 69 regular-season contests between Arizona and Nashville in 2023-24. He'll likely serve in a middle-six capacity next season. Given that this is just a one-year deal, it wouldn't be surprising if Zucker is involved in a midseason trade should the Sabres fall out of the playoff hunt.

  • Sabres' Sam Lafferty: Signs two-year deal

Lafferty signed a two-year, $4 million contract with the Sabres on Monday, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Lafferty had 13 goals, 24 points and 192 hits in 79 regular-season contests with the Canucks in 2023-24. He might get a bit more ice time with Buffalo than he did in Vancouver -- he averaged 11:53 last season -- but the 29-year-old shouldn't be counted on to consistently serve in anything more than a third-line role.

  • Sabres' Brodie Ziemer: Minnesota commit joins Buffalo

Ziemer was the 71st overall pick by the Sabres in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.

A native of Minnesota and product of the famed Shattuck St. Mary's program, Ziemer saw his draft stock rise throughout the season. He played a key role (26 goals, 65 points in 59 games) for the US NTDP and served as Team USA's captain at the World U18's, a tournament in which he was brilliant (12 points in seven games). Ziemer has an excellent shot and seemingly always finds himself in the middle of the action. The main drawback on Ziemer is that there isn't a ton of creativity to his game. He's an ideal multi-year college draft-and-stash prospect. Ziemer will stay home and join the Minnesota Golden Gophers this coming fall.

  • Sabres' Adam Kleber: Nabbed by Buffalo in Round 2

Kleber was the 42nd overall pick by the Sabres in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.

Playing for Lincoln of the USHL, Kleber had a nice season. His point production won't impress anyone (five goals, 21 points in 56 games), but that's not his game. Kleber is a hulking (6-foot-5) stay-at-home defender who plays hard, uses his big frame to his advantage, and has just enough offense to his game. Kleber has a realistic chance to develop into a No. 5 or No. 6 defender at the NHL level without needing much improvement in his game. Should he make offensive improvements, his ceiling will go up. Kleber is off to the University of Minnesota-Duluth this coming fall.
