Top Ryan O'Reilly News

  • Maple Leafs' Ryan O'Reilly: Undergoes successful surgery

O'Reilly has had surgery to repair his broken finger and is facing a four-week recovery, David Alter of Sports Illustrated reports Tuesday.

O'Reilly was doing well in Toronto with three goals and two assists in his eight appearances for the Leafs but will now have to spend the next month on the shelf. At this point, the 32-year-old center could be back just in time to play in a handful of games before the playoffs in order to gear up for a deep postseason run. With John Tavares (illness) also sidelined, the Leafs have turned to Sam Lafferty to step into the second-line center role.

  • Maple Leafs' Ryan O'Reilly: Going on LTIR

O'Reilly will be placed on long-term injured reserve Monday after suffering a broken finger Saturday against Vancouver, David Alter of Sports Illustrated reports.

O'Reilly has three goals, five points and 18 shots on net in eight games with the Leafs since being acquired from St. Louis. He will unavailable to return until at least Mar. 29 against Florida. The Leafs recalled forwards Pontus Holmberg and Alex Steeves from AHL Toronto on Monday.

  • Maple Leafs' Ryan O'Reilly: Misses third period

O'Reilly (undisclosed) missed the third period of Saturday's game versus the Canucks after blocking a shot with his hand late in the second, and head coach Sheldon Keefe didn't have an update on the center's status after the game, David Alter of Sports Illustrated reports.

The Maple Leafs will next practice Monday, so that's the earliest an update on O'Reilly can be expected to arrive. The center had one shot on goal in 11:11 of ice time Saturday, and his absence was noticeable since the Canucks scored three times while he was out of action.

O'Reilly supplied a hat trick and an assist in Toronto's 6-3 victory over Buffalo on Tuesday.

O'Reilly provided Toronto with an early edge by scoring twice in the first 4:28 minutes of the contest. His third marker was scored on an empty net. He's up to 15 goals and 24 points in 43 games in 2022-23. O'Reilly has three goals and five points over three contests since being acquired by Toronto from St. Louis on Friday.

  • Maple Leafs' Ryan O'Reilly: First point with new team

O'Reilly picked up an assist in a 5-1 win over the Canadiens on Saturday.

He skated 16:12 in his Toronto debut, fired one shot and delivered two hits. He won 12-of-14 face-offs. O'Reilly started the game as the second-line center with John Tavares moving to left wing. But over time, he could see time on any of the top three lines and at either center and left wing.

  • Maple Leafs' Ryan O'Reilly: Expected to play Saturday

O'Reilly is expected to make his Maple Leafs debut Saturday versus Montreal, Mike Zeisberger of reports.

O'Reilly was dealt late Friday night from the Blues and will likely slide in as the third-line center behind Auston Matthews and John Tavares. O'Reilly has struggled this season with only 12 goals, 19 points and a minus-24 rating in 40 games, but he has two goals and an assist with a plus-four rating in three games since returning from a fractured foot.

  • Maple Leafs' Ryan O'Reilly: Dealt to Maple Leafs

St. Louis traded O'Reilly and Noel Acciari to Toronto on Friday in exchange for Mikhail Abramov, Adam Gaudette and three draft picks, including a 2023 first.

O'Reilly is in the midst of one of the worst offensive campaigns in his NHL career. The 32-year-old has just 12 goals and 19 points with a brutal minus-24 rating through 40 games, though he's scored a point in each of his last three appearances after a 14-game absence. Toronto clearly still believes in his two-way ability and veteran presence as a former Conn Smythe winner. O'Reilly will likely fill the third-line center role behind Auston Matthews and John Tavares before hitting unrestricted free agency this offseason.

  • Blues' Ryan O'Reilly: Scores for second straight game

O'Reilly tallied a goal in a 6-2 victory over Florida on Tuesday.

O'Reilly scored at 9:28 of the third period to put St. Louis up 4-1. It was his 12th goal and 18th point in 39 games in 2022-23. The 32-year-old has two goals over two games since returning from a foot injury.

  • Blues' Ryan O'Reilly: Overtime winner in return

O'Reilly scored the game-winning goal in Saturday's 6-5 overtime win over the Coyotes.

O'Reilly didn't play in January due to a broken foot. The 32-year-old had a fairly quiet outing in his return until he sealed the win at 1:02 of overtime. The center saw 17:25 of ice time Saturday, so it's fair to say the Blues took it easy on him after his long absence. He's at 11 goals, six assists, a minus-27 rating and 76 shots on net through 38 contests this season. He's in the last year of his contract, and the Blues have already signaled themselves as sellers at the trade deadline, so it's no guarantee O'Reilly finishes the season with St. Louis.

  • Blues' Ryan O'Reilly: Returning to action Saturday

O'Reilly (foot) will be back in the lineup against Arizona on Saturday.

O'Reilly has been out of action since Dec. 31 with a fractured foot. The 32-year-old center has 10 goals and 26 points in 37 games, but has a terrible minus-28 rating this season.

  • Blues' Ryan O'Reilly: Closing in on return

O'Reilly (foot) might return Saturday versus Arizona, Blues coach Craig Berube told Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic.

O'Reilly needs to get cleared first though, especially because they want to be sure that his foot is completely ready in an effort to prevent any potential re-injury. The 32-year-old has 10 goals and 16 points in 37 contests this season. He last played Dec. 31.

  • Blues' Ryan O'Reilly: In full-contact jersey Thursday

O'Reilly (foot) is practicing in full equipment Thursday, according to Lou Korac of

O'Reilly suffered a broken foot Dec. 31 and has yet to play in the calendar year, a span of 14 games. O'Reilly has had a tough go of it this season, with 10 goals and 16 points, along with a horrendous minus-28 rating this season. He is in the final year of a seven-year, $52.5 million deal and could get dealt before the March 5 trade deadline, if the Blues and O'Reilly cannot come to an agreement on a new contract.

  • Blues' Ryan O'Reilly: Back on the ice

O'Reilly (foot) has resumed skating, Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic reports.

There's still no timeline for O'Reilly, who's missed the last 14 games with a fractured foot, to return, but the fact that he's resumed skating is obviously a step in the right direction for his recovery. Check back for another update on the 32-year-old pivot, who's collected 10 goals and 16 points while posting an ugly minus-28 rating through 37 contests this season, once he's cleared to return to practice with his teammates.

  • Blues' Ryan O'Reilly: Still on crutches

O'Reilly (broken foot) is still using crutches, Jim Thomas of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

O'Reilly suffered the injury Dec. 31 when he blocked a Calen Addison shot. He still has another four weeks before he will be re-evaluated. O'Reilly has only 10 goals and 16 points with a horrid minus-28 rating in 37 games this season. If the Blues fall out of the playoff picture by the time O'Reilly regains health, they could look to trade the veteran center, who's in the final season of a seven-year contract.

  • Blues' Ryan O'Reilly: Out for at least six weeks

O'Reilly will be re-evaluated in six weeks after suffering a broken foot Saturday against Minnesota. He was placed on injured reserve Monday.

O'Reilly managed to finish Saturday's game after blocking a shot from Wild defender Calen Addison. Unfortunately, he will be sidelined for multiple weeks now. O'Reilly has struggled offensively this year with 10 goals and 16 points through 37 games. He has been the subject of trade rumors. His absence may shift Brayden Schenn to center. It could also open a spot for Ivan Barbashev or recent call-up Jake Neighbours to play in the top-six forward group.

  • Blues' Ryan O'Reilly: Ends pointless drought

O'Reilly scored a goal on five shots in the Blues' 5-4 loss in overtime to the Maple Leafs on Tuesday.

O'Reilly hit the scoresheet for the first time in seven games, snapping a shot past Ilya Samsonov to cut the Maple Leafs' lead to 3-2. The Blues' captain has struggled all season, posting a minus-26 rating along with 10 goals and 16 points in 35 games. An unrestricted free agent after this season, O'Reilly may be a candidate to be moved if the Blues fall out of the playoff race.

  • Blues' Ryan O'Reilly: Contributes helper in loss

O'Reilly produced an assist, four shots on goal and a minus-2 rating in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Jets.

O'Reilly set up a Josh Leivo goal in the third period. With four goals and two helpers in his seven contests, O'Reilly is finally starting to find his way on offense. The center's season numbers still look rather lackluster -- he's at 14 points, 58 shots and a minus-19 rating in 27 appearances -- that's barely a 40-point pace for a player who hasn't had less than 54 points in any season since 2012-13.
