  • Cardinals' Elijah Higgins: Makes some headway after Week 10

Higgins gathered in 14 of 19 targets for 163 yards and one touchdown in 11 regular-season games in 2023. A sixth-round pick of the Dolphins in April, Higgins transitioned from oversized wide receiver to undersized tight end in the move to the pros. The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder didn't survive cut-down day in Miami in late August and subsequently was claimed off waivers by Arizona. He eventually became a regular in the Cardinals offense after veteran Zach Ertz went down with a quad strain Week 7 and even recorded at least one catch in each of the team's final seven contests. That said, Higgins played second fiddle by a large margin to 2022 second-round pick Trey McBride, a role that likely will continue for him next season barring further additions at the position.

  • Cardinals' Elijah Higgins: Hauls in both targets in Week 17

Higgins secured both of his targets for 21 yards during Sunday's 35-31 victory in Philadelphia. After the Cardinals claimed Higgins off waivers Aug. 30, the sixth-round rookie didn't make his pro debut until Week 7 but has been a regular in the offense ever since. He's recorded a catch in six consecutive games on his way to a 11-131-1 line on 15 targets during that span. Trey McBride is the unquestioned top tight end in Arizona, but Higgins continues to make a case to serve as the team's No. 2 in Sunday's season finale versus the Seahawks.

  • Cardinals' Elijah Higgins: Ready to go for Week 7

Higgins (illness) did not appear on Arizona's injury report Wednesday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. Higgins missed the team's Week 6 loss to the Rams while dealing with an illness, but he appears ready to go for Week 7. The tight end has yet to appear in a game this season, but he'll be available for Sunday's matchup with Seattle.

  • Cardinals' Elijah Higgins: Sitting out Sunday

Higgins (illness) is inactive for Sunday's contest against the Rams, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. Higgins missed practice Wednesday and Thursday, and was given the questionable tag after logging a limited session Friday. He has yet to play this season after being claimed off waivers by the Cardinals on Aug. 30.

  • Elijah Higgins: Getting let go

Higgins was waived by the Dolphins on Tuesday, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. Higgins was chosen in the sixth round of the 2023 Draft by the team and spent camp trying to transition from college wideout to NFL tight end. Despite his inability to make the final roster, the Stanford product is likely to end up on Miami's practice squad, if he can clear waivers.

  • Dolphins' Elijah Higgins: Moving to tight end

Higgins told reporters Saturday that he is "definitely willing" to transition from wide receiver to tight end, Hal Habib of the Palm Beach Post reports. The Dolphins selected Higgins with the 197th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Although he played wide receiver in his four years at Stanford, the Dolphins listed him as a tight end, a position they identified as a need for them. Higgins has no experience at tight end, but his 6-foot-3, 235-pound frame will help him as he learns the position. Higgins caught 59 passes for 704 yards and two touchdowns in his final season at Stanford.

  • Dolphins' Elijah Higgins: Goes to Miami in sixth round

The Dolphins selected Higgins in the sixth round of the NFL Draft, 197th overall. Higgins emerged as Stanford's most productive wide receiver the last two seasons, tallying a combined 104 receptions, 1,204 yards and six touchdowns. He tested very well at the combine in terms of both his speed and burst, and he has a big frame (6-foot-3, 235 pounds) that will allow him to play as either a move tight end or big slot as a pro. That's an interesting fit in Miami, as they lack proven options at both positions.
