Player Outlook
The Bills traded up in the first round of the NFL Draft to select Kincaid from Utah at No. 25 overall. While he's listed as a tight end, the expectation is the Bills will use Kincaid as a big slot receiver. He's worth drafting in all redraft leagues with a late-round pick as a low-end starting option. In rookie-only drafts for Dynasty leagues, Kincaid is worth a first-round pick. He will likely be a big part of Buffalo's passing game along with Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis and Dawson Knox, and that's a good thing since Kincaid is associated with Josh Allen. At Utah, Kincaid finished 2022 with 70 catches, 890 yards and eight touchdowns, and he could be a standout playmaker in the NFL. While he might struggle as a rookie tight end given the history of the position, he still has the potential to succeed in a big way given his expected role and his quarterback.

  • Bills' Dalton Kincaid: Consistent role in offense

Kincaid recorded five receptions on six targets for 43 yards in Sunday's 38-10 win over the Raiders. Kincaid was heavily involved in the offense for the second consecutive game, and he now has 10 targets across two contests as a pro. Against the Raiders, he was regularly targeted by Josh Allen in the short areas of the field and also managed to show his ability to run after the catch to rack up additional yardage. The Bills appear willing to run a considerable amount of 12-personnel, allowing Kincaid to serve primarily as a receiver while Dawson Knox acts more as a traditional in-line tight end.

  • Bills' Dalton Kincaid: Sleepers (Start/Sit)

Kincaid had a quiet first game in the NFL in Week 1 at the Jets with four catches for 26 yards, but he caught all four of his targets. He played 80 percent of the snaps, and the Bills need to get him more involved to help Josh Allen get over his recent struggles. The Raiders just allowed Adam Trautman and Greg Dulcich to catch seven passes for 56 yards on seven targets, and Kincaid could be great if he got seven targets in this matchup.

  • Bills' Dalton Kincaid: Four catches in NFL debut

Kincaid caught all four of his targets for 26 yards in Monday's 22-16 overtime loss to the Jets. Kincaid put forth an efficient, albeit subdued, NFL debut. He had one more yard than veteran tight end Dawson Knox on the same number of targets. Both Knox and Kincaid should get their fair share of attention from quarterback Josh Allen in a pass-heavy Buffalo offense.

  • Bills' Dalton Kincaid: Bust Alert (Start/Sit)

I'm expecting big things from Kincaid this season, but I don't want to start him in Week 1 if I can avoid it. The Jets defense is tough, and while they struggled with tight ends last year, finishing as one of six teams with at least 1,000 receiving yards allowed to the position, they should be able to contain Kincaid in his first NFL action. For this week, if you can, it makes sense to roster two tight ends (Juwan Johnson, Jake Ferguson or Gerald Everett) to keep Kincaid on your bench.

  • Bills' Dalton Kincaid: Not targeted

Kincaid wasn't targeted in Saturday's 24-21 preseason win over the Bears. Kincaid appeared to play about half the snaps on QB Josh Allen's lone drive, which featured seven pass attempts and a short rushing score from RB Damien Harris. The Bills still have Dawson Knox as their top tight end, so in practice Kincaid is competing for snaps with No. 3 receiver Khalil Shakir as much or more so than with anyone else. Kincaid will make his regular-season NFL debut on Monday Night Football in Week 1 against the Jets.

  • Bills' Dalton Kincaid: First catches as pro

Kincaid recorded three receptions on four targets for 45 yards in Saturday's 27-15 preseason loss to the Steelers. Kincaid began his day with the first unit as Dawson Knox (finger) was forced to miss the game. His first catch as a pro came from Josh Allen, though Kincaid connected with Matt Barkley for gains of 21 and 16 yards. Kincaid is likely to have a significant role in the offense come Week 1 of the regular season, and he flashed his big-play potential in Saturday's exhibition contest.

  • Bills' Dalton Kincaid: Not targeted in preseason debut

Kincaid (back) suited up for Saturday's preseason opener against Indianapolis, but he was not targeted during his brief exhibition debut. While it would have been nice to see the first tight end taken in this year's draft get involved on offense, the fact that Kincaid suited up for the first of three exhibition contests at least confirms that he is completely over the back issues he experienced in the offseason. Buffalo traded up in the first round to draft the receiving tight end, and early reports indicate that the team has no intention of making the rookie sit behind the incumbent veteran, Dawson Knox, either. Perhaps we get a longer look at the exciting tight end prospect against the Steelers next Saturday.

  • Bills' Dalton Kincaid: Expected to contribute right away

Kincaid is being fast-tracked into a prominent role heading into his rookie season, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports. Kincaid has impressed Buffalo's coaching staff with his route-running ability and hands. The rookie first-round pick out of Utah will battle incumbent starting tight end Dawson Knox for playing time, though the Bills will likely opt to utilize more 12 personnel to get both tight ends on the field simultaneously.

  • Bills' Dalton Kincaid: Signs rookie deal

Kincaid signed a four-year deal Saturday, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports. The Bills surprised plenty of people when they jumped up in the first round to select Kincaid out of Utah with the 25th pick, but there's little doubt about his pass-catching ability. He's already been participating in minicamp, though it may take much of the summer to determine how the Bills plan to utilize Kincaid in conjunction with the established Dawson Knox. There's a chance that Kincaid has enough athletic ability to see work in the slot, even at times when Knox is also on the field.

  • Bills' Dalton Kincaid: Goes to Buffalo in late first round

The Bills selected Kincaid in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, 25th overall. The Bills traded up from the 27th pick to make the selection, making the former Utah and San Diego star the first tight end off the board. Dawson Knox is the presumed starting tight end for Buffalo, yet the Bills would only make this selection if they had extensive plans for Kincaid. It's reasonable to suspect that Knox will continue to handle all the inline tasks, in which case Kincaid (6-foot-4, 246 pounds) would function more like a slot receiver whenever the Bills roll with two tight ends. As a smaller tight end, Kincaid will need to make his living running down the seam and maybe getting some boundary looks on shorter fields. Whether Kincaid can make a mainstream fantasy impact might depend on how many reps he can take from penciled-in slot wideout Khalil Shakir.
