This production came completely out of the blue from Hudson, as he had been inactive the three previous games and only signed from the practice squad on Wednesday. But the Bengals got production from all three tight ends in the passing game, seeing an opening against the Bills.

Hudson was elevated from the practice squad in Weeks 3 and 4 while Irv Smith dealt with a hamstring injury, and the 6-foot-5 tight end held his own with four catches for 48 yards on six targets between those two games. The 30 receiving yards Hudson compiled Week 3 are more than Smith has had in any game this season. Smith also lost a fumble in this past Sunday's win over the 49ers, so perhaps Hudson can carve out a sizable pass-catching role if the Cincinnati coaching staff is unhappy with Smith's production.

This marks the second week in a row that Hudson has been promoted from the team's practice squad. He filled in Week 3 against the Rams with Irv Smith (hamstring) ruled out and finished as the top pass-catching tight end with two catches on four targets for 30 yards. He played 36 offensive snaps in Week 3, more than fellow tight ends Drew Sample and Mitchell Wilcox, and could see that same usage against the Titans on Sunday, with Smith being ruled out for the second straight week.

The pair of receptions were Hudson's first since the 2020 campaign, when he recorded a 3-41-0 receiving line on seven targets over 11 games for the Buccaneers. Hudson secured six of seven targets for 74 yards and lost a fumble in the Buccaneers' 34-3 preseason loss to the Titans on Saturday night.
Hudson once again paced the Buccaneers in receptions and receiving yards, and brought in a particularly impressive 25-yard pass from rookie Kyle Trask in the fourth quarter. Despite his impressive work as a receiver this preseason, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports Hudson is being given no assurances by head coach Bruce Arians, who noted after Saturday's game, "there's more to it than just catching the ball" with respect to the tight end's bid for a roster spot. Hudson's blocking continues to be spotty, but he should ample chances to once again impress in Saturday's preseason finale against the Texans.
