  • Colts' Matt Gay: Reliable from inside 50 in 2024

Gay connected on 31 of 37 field-goal attempts and all 33 extra-point tries across 16 regular-season games this season. All six of Gay's misses came from 50 yards or longer. Gay, in his sixth season, made at least 80 percent of his field-goal tries for the fifth year in a row. He has also missed just one extra point in two seasons and 33 regular-season games with the Colts since signing a four-year, $22.5 million deal in 2023.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Misses 54-yard field goal

Gay went 2-for-3 on field-goal attempts and converted all three of his extra-point tries during the Colts' 45-33 loss to the Giants on Sunday. Gay got the Colts on the board late in the first quarter with a 32-yard field goal, but he missed his next attempt from 54 yards out early in the second frame. He bounced back with a 29-yard chip shot later in the second quarter, and his next three kicks came on extra-point attempts. Gay is now 27-for-32 on field-goal attempts and 31-for-31 on extra-point tries through 15 regular-season games.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Scores eight points against Titans

Gay went 1-for-2 on his field-goal attempts and made all five of his extra-point tries during the Colts' 38-30 win over the Titans on Sunday. Gay entered Sunday's game with a questionable tag due to a neck injury, but he was cleared during pregame warmups. He connected on a 31-yard field goal late in the second quarter to give the Colts a 10-point lead, but his 55-yard field-goal attempt early in the fourth quarter that would've put Indianapolis up by 19 points sailed right. Gay had gone 10-for-10 on field-goal tries over the Colts' five games prior to Sunday's AFC South clash, and through 14 regular-season contests he's gone 25-for-29 on field-goal attempts and has made all 28 of his extra-point tries.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Active versus Titans

Gay, who had been listed as questionable with a neck injury, is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Titans. After not practicing Wednesday and Thursday, Gay practiced fully Friday, setting the stage for the kicker to be available for Sunday's contest. In 13 games this season, Gay has recorded 95 points, while connecting on 24 of his 27 field-goal attempts and all 23 of his extra-point tries, a pace that puts him on the fantasy radar in deeper leagues ahead of the next wave of Week 16 action.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Questionable for Week 16

Gay (neck) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Titans. After logging a pair of DNPs on Wednesday and Thursday, Gay was able to practice fully Friday, suggesting he's looking good for Sunday. After a down 2023 season in which he made just 80.5 percent of his field-goal attempts, Gay has righted the ship again this season, making 24 of 27 field-goal attempts and all 23 of his extra-point tries. The Colts don't currently employ another kicker.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Doesn't practice Thursday

Gay (neck) did not participate in Thursday's practice. Gay has now logged consecutive DNPs to start the week due to a neck injury he may have picked up during the Colts' Week 15 loss to the Broncos. If the Colts sign a placekicker to the practice squad, that would indicate that Gay is in jeopardy of being sidelined for Sunday's game against the Titans.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Nursing neck injury

Gay didn't practice Wednesday due to a neck injury. Gay converted both of his field-goal attempts and made his lone point-after try in the Colts' Week 15 loss to the Broncos, but he appears to have emerged from the game with the neck injury. Indianapolis doesn't have another kicker on its practice squad or active roster, so the team may need to add one if Gay is unable to practice again Thursday. Regardless, Gay's participation Thursday and Friday will provide the best indication of whether he can suit up Sunday, when the Colts face the Titans.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Accurate in road loss

Gay made both of his two field-goal tries and converted his only extra-point attempt during Sunday's 31-13 loss at Denver. Gay didn't see a ton of action on a day where the Colts turned the football over five times, but he did extend his streak of games without a missed kick to five. He's been a bright spot for Indianapolis this season, but he'll need his team to hold onto the ball if he's going to put up big fantasy numbers in Week 16 versus the Titans.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Makes only field-goal try Sunday

Gay converted his only field-goal attempt while going 2-for-2 on PATs in Sunday's 25-24 win over the Patriots. Gay made a chip-shot 25-yard field goal in the third quarter, giving Indianapolis a 17-16 advantage at that point. It was the first contest since Week 3 that Gay did not make multiple field goals, ending a nine-game streak for the kicker. Gay has now gone 22-for-25 on field-goal tries while making all 22 of his extra-point attempts in 2024.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Provides Indy's only points Sunday

Gay made both of his two field-goal tries during Sunday's 24-6 loss versus the Lions. On a day where the Colts were only able to muster 268 yards of total offense, scoring opportunities were few for their kicker. Gay knocked through two chip shots in the first half, but he didn't get any more chances in the second. Indianapolis will travel to take on New England's inconsistent defense in Week 13.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Makes two field goals Sunday

Gay made both of his field-goal tries and both of his extra-point attempts in Sunday's Week 10 loss to Buffalo. Gay wasn't really challenged, as his field goals came from 27 and 23 yards, respectively, but he nonetheless did his job in making all four of his kicks. The veteran placekicker has made multiple field goals in each of his past seven contests, giving him a solid floor in fantasy leagues. However, he's gone just 2-for-5 on attempts of 50-plus yards this year after making 15 of 22 tries from that distance across the previous two campaigns.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Busy in close win

Gay made all three of his field-goal attempts and converted his only extra-point try in Sunday's 16-10 win versus the Dolphins. Gay started the scoring for Indianapolis at the end of the first half with a 52-yard field goal, his first make from 50-plus yards this season. He's now attempted multiple field goals without a miss in three straight contests and will at least have favorable conditions on his side in Week 8 at Houston.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Does job in win

Gay made both of his two field-goal attempts and both of his extra-point tries in Sunday's 20-17 win at Tennessee. Both of Gay's field goals came from less than 30 yards out, and he's still perfect from that range for his career. However, he doesn't have a field goal from longer than 40 yards through five games this season, so he'll still be looking for his first from that range in Week 7 versus the Dolphins.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Ready for Week 3

Gay (quadriceps) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's contest against the Bears. After sitting out Week 1 due to still being in recovery mode from sports hernia surgery, Gay made his season debut this past Sunday in Green Bay, making his only point-after try but just one of two field-goal attempts. He then sat out Wednesday's practice with a quad injury, only to cap the week with back-to-back full sessions. Gay thus is set to play versus a Chicago team that sits in a tie for sixth in the NFL in terms of points against at 18.0 per game.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Should be good to go Sunday

Gay (quadriceps) was a full participant during practice Thursday, Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star reports. Gay didn't practice Wednesday, but his return to a full session Thursday is an encouraging sign that suggests he'll be handling kicking duties for the Colts on Sunday against the Bears. After missing the Colts' Week 1 loss to the Texans, Gay returned to action for the Week 2 loss to the Packers and knocked down his lone extra-point try and one of two field-goal attempts.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Kicking at Thursday's practice

Gay (quadriceps) is handling kicking duties at practice Thursday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. Gay couldn't practice Wednesday, so it's encouraging to see him back on the field Thursday. The veteran kicker missed Week 1 due to offseason sports hernia surgery and is now nursing a new quad issue, but he looks to be making good progress ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Bears. The Colts also have kicker Spencer Shrader on the practice squad.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Misses in return

Gay made his only extra-point try but failed to convert one of his two field goal attempts in Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Packers. Gay missed Week 1 as he recovered from sports hernia surgery. His return in Week 2 didn't go as planned, as he missed a 50-yard FGA in the loss Sunday. He did, however, connect on a 34-yard attempt to make the score 13-3 before halftime. Gay's next opportunity will come in Week 3 against the Bears.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Should play Week 2

Head coach Shane Steichen stated that Gay (sports hernia) is "good to go" for Sunday's game against the Packers, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports. Gay is expected to return to practice Wednesday after being out of action since undergoing surgery, according to James Boyd of The Athletic. The Utah product was replaced by Spencer Shrader for Week 1's loss to the Texans, who has since reverted to the team's practice squad. However, an official word on who will be kicking for the Colts in Week 2 won't come until Gay is absent from the team's injury report.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Status in question for Sunday

Gay (hernia) is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest against the Texans. Gay has been in recovery mode since undergoing surgery on a sports hernia following Indianapolis' last preseason game Aug. 22. He didn't practice at all this week, but the team still is giving him a chance to serve as its placekicker Sunday. Head coach Shane Steichen told JJ Stankewitz of the Colts' official site Friday that Spencer Shrader will be called up from the practice squad to handle kicking duties this weekend if Gay is deemed inactive 90 minutes before a 1 p.m. ET kickoff.

  • Colts' Matt Gay: Looking unlikely for Sunday

Gay (sports hernia) is not participating in Friday's practice, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. Gay hasn't practiced in any capacity this week while recovering from sports hernia surgery, making him look like a strong candidate to sit out Sunday's regular-season opener against the Texans. Friday's official practice report will reveal Gay's injury designation for Week 1. If Gay can't go, undrafted rookie Spencer Shrader will work as Indianapolis' starting kicker versus Houston.
