  • Chiefs' Lucas Niang: Returns to active roster

The Chiefs activated Niang (kneecap) from the reserve/PUP list to the 53-man roster Wednesday.

Niang was designated to return Nov. 2, so he needed to be moved to the active roster or be forced to miss the rest of the season, as his 21-day window to be reinstated was closing. It's unclear whether he'll be ready to return Sunday against the Rams, but if he does, he'll provide depth to the Chiefs offensive line.

  • Chiefs' Lucas Niang: Returns to practice

Niang (kneecap) was designated to return from the reserve/PUP list Wednesday, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.

Head coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that Niang is back at practice, opening a 21-day window for the team to activate him or leave him on the reserve/PUP list for the remainder of the season. The offensive lineman has been out since late August while recovering from the torn patella tendon he suffered in January. When healthy, Niang will provide the Chiefs with an additional depth option upfront protecting Patrick Mahomes.

  • Chiefs' Lucas Niang: Shifts to reserve/PUP

Niang (kneecap) was placed on the Chiefs' reserve/PUP list Tuesday, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports.

Niang has not participated this preseason while recovering from a torn patella tendon suffered in January. Chiefs general manager Bree Veach said in April that the presumptive starting right tackle was on track to return by the end of training camp, but he will now be forced to miss at least the first four games of the 2022 regular season while on this reserve list.

  • Chiefs' Lucas Niang: Moved to PUP list

Niang (kneecap) was added to the Chiefs' active/PUP list Saturday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Niang was expected to miss the start of Kansas City's upcoming training camp, but he can still be removed from this list and practice at any point before the start of the regular season. The 2020 third-round pick played 12 games with nine starts for the Chiefs, and he should slot in as the team's starting right tackle once he fully recovers from a torn patella tendon suffered at the end of the regular season.

  • Chiefs' Lucas Niang: Likely headed to active/PUP list

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Friday that Niang (kneecap) won't participate to begin training camp and will likely land on the active/PUP list, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.

Niang suffered a torn patella tendon during Week 17 last year and was placed on injured reserve shortly after, ending his season. There was optimism the 2020 third-round pick would be available for the start of training camp, but it sounds like Kansas City will opt to be cautious instead. If healthy, Niang projects to be the Chiefs' starting right tackle to start the regular season.

  • Chiefs' Lucas Niang: Could be 100 percent by end of camp

Chiefs general manger Brett Veach said Friday that Niang (kneecap) is on schedule to be 100 percent by the end of training camp, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.

Niang suffered a torn patella tendon in Week 17 last year and was placed on injured reserve shortly after, ending his season. Sweeney relays that Niang underwent a progress MRI recently, which prompted the comments from Veach. If healthy to start the 2022 campaign, Niang figures to be the Chiefs' Week 1 starter at right tackle.

  • Chiefs' Lucas Niang: Placed on IR

Niang (kneecap) was placed on injured reserve Friday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.

Niang had already been ruled out for Saturday against the Broncos, and it was also expected he would be out for the season after suffering a torn patella tendon in Week 17.

  • Chiefs' Lucas Niang: Ruled out Saturday

Niang (kneecap) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Broncos.

Niang likely suffered a torn patella tendon in his left knee in last week's loss to the Bengals, so it's not very surprising to see him ruled out for Week 18. If his injury is confirmed, he'll likely be unavailable for the postseason.

  • Chiefs' Lucas Niang: Season likely over

Niang (knee) is believed to have suffered a torn patella tendon in his left knee during the Chiefs' 34-31 loss to the Bengals on Sunday, which if true, would end his season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Niang was carted off the field in the first quarter with the injury. The second-year pro has manned the right tackle spot when healthy, His potential absence moving forward would be a fairly significant blow to the Chiefs' offensive line and likely lead to Andrew Wylie taking over Niang's role.
