Perkins signed a one-year contract with the 49ers on Wednesday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Perkins apparently impressed enough during his weekend workout with San Francisco to earn a spot on the roster early in training camp. The tight end suffered an upper-body injury in camp last year and spent the entire 2020 campaign on injured reserve with the Eagles.

Perkins was slated to get first-team reps for a bit while Zach Ertz (upper body) and Dallas Goedert (thumb) were on the sidelines, but now he'll sit out, too. It sounds like the team will do more tests to gauge the severity of Perkins' injury, but his Week 1 status is in jeopardy. For the time being, Noah Togiai and Caleb Wilson are the only two healthy tight ends in Philadelphia.

Perkins caught nine of his 13 targets for 87 yards and a touchdown in five games during the 2019 season.
Perkins set new career marks in catches, yards and targets in his third pro season but still wasn't much of a fantasy contributor. The 26-year-old will become a restricted free agent in the offseason, so there is a good chance he will be backing up Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert again in 2020.

Eagles' Joshua Perkins: Finds end zone Sunday
Perkins caught four of six targets for 50 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-17 win over the Giants.
The tight end, promoted off the practice squad at the end of November due to the rash of injuries the Eagles have had to deal with, was pressed into duty at wide receiver in this one and ended up scoring his second career TD, with his first coming as a Falcon back in 2016. Philly will take on Seattle in a wild-card clash next weekend, but despite his solid showing in Week 17, Perkins' role in the offense will likely depend on the health of more talented teammates like Zach Ertz (ribs).

Perkins' targets both came in the first half and were his first in two weeks. The 26-year-old saw 26 offensive snaps in this one and eight on special teams.

Eagles' Joshua Perkins: Nabs five catches in win
Perkins caught all five of his targets for 37 yards in Monday night's 23-17 win over the Giants.
It was quite the season debut for Perkins, who had not played an offensive snap all year prior to Monday. Three of his catches went for first downs, including his biggest gain of the night, a 13-yarder on the game-winning drive in overtime. When Alshon Jeffery (foot) was forced from the game, it left the Eagles with only two healthy wide receivers, and the 25-year-old stepped in to fill the void, with all of his targets coming in the second half. He could continue to have a role going forward with Jeffery now out for the season and Nelson Agholor (knee) still on the mend, but it bears watching to see if the Eagles sign any receivers prior to their Week 15 matchup at Washington.

Perkins was promoted from the practice squad Saturday, Zack Rosenblatt of NJ.com reports.
Perkins' promotion doesn't bode well for fellow tight end Zach Ertz's (hamstring) status. Even if Ertz ends up sitting out, Perkins is unlikely to see heavy involvement. Perkins had just five catches in nine games for the Eagles last season.

Perkins recorded one reception on two targets for five yards in Thursday's 26-15 loss to Baltimore.
The fact that Perkins played Thursday is good news, as he left the practice field Tuesday due to an undisclosed injury. It certainly would've been an unfortunate time to go down with an injury, as the 26-year-old sits on the roster bubble as Philadelphia's fourth tight end and obviously needs to see the field to make his case.

Perkins appears to be on the roster bubble ahead of the 2019 season, Zack Rosenblatt of NJ.com reports.
Entering his fourth season in the league, Perkins has appeared in only 17 games for the Eagles and Falcons over his career and caught eight passes for 109 yards and a score along the way. He's coming off a 2018 campaign in which the tight end finished the year on injured reserve, but Perkins has since returned to team drills this spring, according to Mike Kaye of The Newark Star-Ledger. Now healthy, the challenge for Perkins this summer will be to unseat Richard Rodgers for the No. 3 role.
