Mariners' Ty France: Knocks second homer Saturday

France went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in a win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

France gave the Mariners some valuable breathing room in the seventh, extending a one-run lead via a 410-foot shot to left center with Jorge Polanco aboard. It was the second homer in three games for France, who previously hadn't left the yard over his first 21 games of the campaign.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | MIN

Twins' Carlos Santana: Homers again in win

Santana went 2-for-4 with a double, home run, four RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's victory over the Angels.

Santana hit a home run for a third consecutive game. After slumping to begin the season (.347 OPS and one extra base hit in his first 16 games), he's 5-for-12 with three homers and a double in his last three games.

  • Rays' Austin Shenton: Belts first big-league homer

Shenton went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and a walk Saturday in an extra-inning loss to the White Sox.

Shenton came into the contest having gone 0-for-8 with three strikeouts over his previous four contests, but he turned things around with the opportunity to start at first base and work as the Rays' cleanup hitter. The 26-year-old enjoyed a personal highlight with a solo shot to left field in the fifth inning for his first major-league long ball. Shelton slugged 29 homers over 134 minor-league games last year, so he could be an intriguing source of power if given more opportunity.

  • Trey Cabbage 1B | HOU

Astros' Trey Cabbage: Productive in 2024 debut

Cabbage went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI on Saturday against the Rockies.

Cabbage was called up to serve as Houston's 27th man for the Mexico City Series, and he was immediately slotted into the lineup to make his 2024 debut. He delivered the RBI knock in his first plate appearance, though he was pulled in the sixth inning in favor of pinch hitter Mauricio Dubon. Cabbage will almost certainly be back with Triple-A Sugar Land after the team's weekend series abroad, where he's maintained a .271 batting average while also striking out 31.9 percent of the time across 91 plate appearances.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Swats homer in win

Mountcastle went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 7-0 win over the Athletics.

The long ball was Mountcastle's first hit in three games since he recovered from a minor knee issue. He posted multiple hits in seven of the 11 games prior to the injury. The first baseman has been solid this year, slashing .299/.364/.483 with three homers, 12 RBI, 15 runs scored and seven doubles over 99 plate appearances, though he has yet to attempt to steal a base.

  • Triston Casas 1B | BOS

Red Sox's Triston Casas: Moves to 60-day IL

The Red Sox transferred Casas (ribs) to the 60-day injured list Saturday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Casas was diagnosed with a cartilage tear in his left ribcage Friday, and it will officially cost him at least two months as he moves to the 60-day IL. The 24-year-old first baseman was optimistic Friday about returning to the lineup before the end of the season, but there is no telling when that might be, given the wide range of recovery timelines that come with his sort of injury. His roster spot will be given to Garrett Cooper, who was acquired from the Cubs on Saturday in exchange for cash and figures to take over as Boston's primary first baseman while Casas is out.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

Astros' Jose Abreu: Back at first base Saturday

Abreu is starting at first base and batting eighth in Saturday's contest against the Rockies in Mexico City.

Abreu has ceded the starting first base job to Jon Singleton as of late, with the former going 1-for-21 over his last seven games. Abreu will hope to turn around his poor start to the season Saturday against Rockies right-hander Cal Quantrill.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

    Rays' Yandy Diaz: Available Saturday

Diaz (hand) is not in the starting lineup but is available as a pinch hitter for Saturday's game against the White Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Diaz left Friday's game after taking a 99-mph fastball off his left pinky in the eighth inning. X-rays came back negative, and while he won't start Saturday, he will be available should the Rays need a right-handed bat. With Diaz in the dugout, lefty-hitting Austin Shenton will start at first base and bat in the cleanup spot against White Sox right-hander Jonathan Cannon.

  • Ryan Noda 1B | OAK

Athletics' Ryan Noda: Not starting Saturday

Noda is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles.

Noda will begin Saturday's game in the dugout with the Orioles sending out southpaw Cole Irvin. It marks the third game in a row that Noda hasn't started, though he did pinch hit in each of the Athletics' last two games. Abraham Toro will start at first base Saturday and bat fifth.

  • Trey Cabbage 1B | HOU

Astros' Trey Cabbage: Starting Saturday as 27th man

The Astros appointed Cabbage from Triple-A Sugar Land to be the 27th man for the two-game series against the Rockies in Mexico City, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.

Cabbage will start in left field Saturday and bat seventh against Rockies right-hander Cal Quantrill. Cabbage played 22 games in the majors last season with the Angels, slashing .208/.321/.553 with three doubles, one stolen base, one home run and seven RBI over 56 plate appearances.
