Casas went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's spring game against the Yankees. Casas got hold of a Carlos Rodon slider and sent it 421 feet at 109.1 mph. That the blast came off a lefty pitcher is significant, as Casas slashed just .215/.361/.456 against southpaws in 2023. This season, with Justin Turner gone, Casas could get more starts against lefties. The Red Sox have right-handed batters C.J. Cron and Bobby Dalbec competing to back up Casas, and either one could steal those starts if the lefty struggles continue. Casas is 3-for-23 with five walks through nine Grapefruit League games, including 1-for-6 against southpaws.... See More ... See Less

Red Sox's Triston Casas: Makes spring debut
Casas went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts in Saturday's spring game against Washington. Casas made his Grapefruit League debut after an illness delayed his appearance in game action. His timing may be off, which would explain the two punchouts.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Triston Casas: In lineup against Nationals
Casas (illness) is in the lineup for Saturday's split-squad game against the Nationals, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. Having kicked the flu, Casas can now resume his preparations for the start of the 2024 season. Expectations are high for Casas entering his age-24 campaign after he hit .317/.417/.617 with 15 homers in the second half last year.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Triston Casas: On track for Saturday
Casas (illness) is expected to make his Grapefruit League debut Saturday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Casas has been away from the club for much of the week while dealing with a nasty bout of the flu, but he's on the mend and his return to game action is imminent. The young first baseman put up a 1.034 OPS in the second half last season and will be looking to carry that over into a breakout 2024 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Will return to camp Wednesday
Casas (illness) will return to Red Sox camp Wednesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. Casas has been away for a few days while battling the flu, although he was still taking some swings on his own. It will be a few days before the young first baseman is cleared to return to Grapefruit League contests, but he's on the mend.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Dealing with illness
Casas is dealing with the flu Sunday and will be away from Boston's facilities for a few days, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Casas will sit out for a few spring training games while recovering from the flu. The left-handed batter showed improvement in his second year of the majors and finished the 2023 season slashing .263/.367/.490 with 24 home runs, 65 RBI and 70 walks in 502 plate appearances.... Red Sox's Triston Casas: Set to resume hitting
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said Wednesday that Casas (shoulder) is close to starting a hitting program, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. Casas missed the final few weeks of the 2023 regular season because of inflammation in his right shoulder, but he is basically back to full strength here in early November. When healthy this year, the young first baseman put up a strong .856 OPS with 24 home runs and 65 RBI over 132 games.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Likely done for season
Casas (shoulder) is unlikely to be activated from the 10-day injured list before the end of the season, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports. Casas is still undergoing tests on his injured right shoulder, but with the Red Sox out of the playoff hunt, the team isn't incentivized to rush him back. The 23-year-old first baseman established himself as a core piece of the Red Sox's long-term plans after finishing his first full season in the big leagues with a .263 batting average, 24 home runs, 65 RBI and 66 runs in 132 games. Justin Turner and Bobby Dalbec are likely to share work at first base the rest of the way while Casas is on the shelf.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Lands on injured list
Casas was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with right shoulder inflammation, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Casas will be eligible to return for the final week of the season, but with the Red Sox out of the playoff picture, they're likely to prioritize a cautious approach. Justin Turner will play first base Saturday, but Bobby Dalbec could also spend time there after being recalled to take Casas' place on the roster.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Scratched again Saturday
Casas (shoulder) was scratched from the lineup for the second consecutive day Saturday against the Blue Jays, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Casas had been set to return from a shoulder issue after just a one-game absence, but the team has decided he needs more time to heal. Given that the Red Sox have seemingly folded their hand for the season, as they 7.5 games out of the final Wild Card spot and recently fired top executive Chaim Bloom, it makes sense that they'd err on the side of caution with their young slugger. Justin Turner moves to first base in Casas' absence, with Masataka Yoshida moving to designated hitter, Adam Duvall sliding to Yoshida's spot in left field and Wilyer Abreu entering the lineup as the center fielder.... Red Sox's Triston Casas: Out with sore shoulder
Casas was scratched from the lineup Friday at Toronto due to right shoulder soreness, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Casas may have tweaked his shoulder at some point during Thursday's doubleheader against the Yankees, but the issue is not considered serious and he should be viewed as day-to-day leading into the remainder of Boston's weekend series versus the Blue Jays. Justin Turner is starting at first base Friday as Masataka Yoshida fills the DH role, while Ceddanne Rafaela enters the lineup in center field and hits leadoff.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Scratched from lineup Friday
Casas was scratched from the lineup Friday at Toronto for undisclosed reasons. Justin Turner will start at first base as Masataka Yoshida shifts to the DH role and Ceddanne Rafaela is added to the mix in center field. There is no word yet as to what prompted the Red Sox to scratch Casas from Friday's series opener against the Blue Jays, but he played all 18 innings of Thursday's doubleheader against the Yankees.... Red Sox's Triston Casas: Launches three-run homer
Casas went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk in Sunday's 7-3 win against Baltimore. The 23-year-old went 0-for-9 across the first two games of the series to snap a 10-game hit streak, but he found his power stroke during the sixth inning Sunday to give the Red Sox some breathing room. Casas has an .893 OPS through nine games in September and has a .263/.365/.494 slash line with 24 homers, 64 RBI and 65 runs in 485 plate appearances for the season.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Hit streak reaches double digits
Casas went 1-for-4 in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Rays. Casas' ninth-inning single extended his hit streak to 10 games. The rookie first baseman is 15-for-36 (.417) during that stretch with four doubles, three home runs, seven walks, 11 RBI and seven runs scored.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Drives in four runs
Casas went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored in Monday's win over Tampa Bay. Casas put the Red Sox on top with his three-run shot in the sixth inning and later added an RBI single. After a bit of a cold spell for most of August, his bat is getting hot again. Over his last 10 games, Casas has gone 15-for-34 (.441) with three homers, 10 RBI and a 6:7 BB:K. For the season, his slash line is up to .268/.368/.503 with 45 extra-base hits and 59 RBI through 123 games.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Belts 21st homer
Casas went 2-for-4 with one double, a home run, two RBI and one run scored in Sunday's loss against the Dodgers. Casas hit a two-run homer in the sixth off Gavin Stone to put the Red Sox on the board. It was his 21st home run of the season, with 12 of those coming since the All-Star break. Cases is now slashing .256/.356/.482 on the season.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Sitting Saturday
Casas will be on the bench for Saturday's game against the Dodgers, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Casas will hit the bench against lefty Julio Urias. He sat against the majority of the lefties the Red Sox faced over the first four months of the season but was in the lineup against all six southpaws the team faced in August prior to Saturday's absence. Justin Turner will start at first base.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Sitting out Thursday
Casas is not in the lineup for Thursday's tilt in Houston, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. Casas is not dealing with any known injury, but it's odd to see him not starting versus a right-hander, especially after he just missed two games over the weekend with a tooth infection. Justin Turner is at first base Thursday, with Masataka Yoshida in the designated hitter spot.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Takes spot in Monday's lineup
Casas (tooth) will start at first base and bat cleanup in Monday's game against the Astros, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Casas missed a pair of games with a tooth infection, but he was examined earlier Monday and was deemed ready to return to action. He'll occupy his usual spot at first base and look to continue his big post-All-Star break run. Through 32 second-half contests, Casas is maintaining a .323 average to go with 11 home runs, 21 RBI and 20 runs.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Expected out Sunday
Casas (tooth) is expected to be unavailable for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Casas, who was scratched from Saturday's lineup due to a tooth infection, had the tooth drained at an area hospital. Red Sox manager Alex Cora is targeting Monday for the first baseman's return. Justin Turner switched from designated hitter to first base Saturday.... See More ... See Less
