  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Nearly notches shutout Thursday

Primeau made 29 saves in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Flyers.

The 24-year-old netminder nearly recorded his third shutout of the season, but Owen Tippett snuck a puck past Primeau through traffic with 1:01 left on the clock in the third period. He's emerged as a reliable backup to Sam Montembeault since Jake Allen got traded, and over five starts in March, Primeau has gone 3-1-1 with a 1.97 GAA and .939 save percentage.

  • Canadiens' Jake Evans: Snaps scoring drought

Evans had a goal on one shot, one block and two penalty minutes in Thursday's 4-1 win over Philadelphia.

Evans put the capper on the victory, scoring Montreal's second empty-net goal with four seconds left. The tally snapped a 10-game scoring drought and was his sixth of the season. Evans has 24 points through 72 games.

  • Canadiens' Joel Armia: Pockets empty-netter

Armia scored a goal on three shots, had an assist and blocked two shots in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Flyers.

It was a productive final three minutes for Armia, who logged an empty-net goal then assisted on a second tally with Philadelphia's goalie pulled. It was the second straight game with a goal for Armia, who is up to 13 tallies this season.

  • Canadiens' Jesse Ylonen: Busts long drought

Ylonen scored a goal on one shot in Thursday's 4-1 win over Philadelphia.

It's been a while for Ylonen, who hadn't scored since Nov. 16, a span of 43 games. He was in the right place at the right time to take advantage of a rebound. Ylonen has four goals and four assists through 54 games.

  • Canadiens' Nick Suzuki: Reaches 30 goals

Suzuki scored a power-play goal on one shot, assisted on a goal and added two hits in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Flyers.

Suzuki scored Montreal's first goal and has tallies in three straight games, all Montreal wins. This one was special, as it was his 30th of the season; the Canadiens' top-line center has increased his goal scoring in successive seasons since entering the NHL as a 20-year-old in 2019-20. Suzuki has been on fire since just before the All-Star break, pouring in 32 points over 27 games.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Tending twine Thursday

Primeau will guard the home cage versus the Flyers on Thursday.

Primeau has made just 17 appearances this season, in part due to the club's decision to carry three netminders for most of the year. With Jake Allen now in New Jersey, the 24-year-old Primeau has seen an increase in starts, though he remains the No. 2 option behind Sam Montembeault.

  • Canadiens' Kaiden Guhle: Helps in win

Guhle had an assist, three blocked shots and two hits in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Avalanche.

Guhle was part of the forechecking pressure administered by the Canadiens that led to Joel Armia's game-winning goal late in the first period. Not known much for his offense, the 22-year-old Guhle has five points over the last four contests and a career-high 20 for the season. He also leads Montreal in blocks (174) and is fourth on the team in hits (110).

  • Canadiens' Alex Newhook: Logs assist in win

Newhook had an assist, three shots on net and one block in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Colorado.

Newhook's shot from the point led to Joel Armia's game-winning tally late in the first period. Newhook has three points over the last two games and is up to 25 through 44 contests. He's within shouting distance of the career-high 33 points (71 games) he had in 2021-22, when Newhook was a member of the Avalanche.

  • Canadiens' Joel Armia: Pots winner

Armia scored a goal on six shots and had one hit in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Avalanche.

Armia potted what turned out to be the game-winning goal late in the first period after dogged forecheck work by the Canadiens. He controlled a puck that had gotten behind Justus Annunen and pocketed a wraparound shot for his 12th tally of the season. The goal snapped a nine-game pointless run for Armia, who is still seeing healthy ice time on the rebuilding Habs' second line.

  • Canadiens' David Savard: Provides assist in win

Savard had an assist, one block and two hits in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Colorado.

Savard had the secondary helper on Nick Suzuki's first-period strike, which came just nine seconds after Nathan MacKinnon gave the Avalanche a 1-0 lead. Savard's offensive contributions have been modest -- 18 points in 49 games -- but he's a high-volume blocker of shots. He's third on the Canadiens with 130 (2.65 per game) in that category.

  • Canadiens' Juraj Slafkovsky: Streak rolls to eight

Slafkovsky had an assist, two shots on net, three blocked shots and two hits in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Avalanche.

Slafkovsky directed the puck to the boards where Nick Suzuki won the battle and scored the first of Montreal's two opening-period tallies. The assist extended Slafkovsky's point streak to eight games -- his second eight-game streak this season -- during which he has two goals and seven assists.

  • Canadiens' Nick Suzuki: Responds quickly

Suzuki scored a goal on three shots, blocked one shot, delivered one hit and was assessed two penalty minutes in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Colorado.

It took Suzuki just nine seconds after Nathan MacKinnon put Colorado up 1-0 to respond. Suzuki beat Casey Mittelstadt along the boards and went directly to the net for his 29th goal. The point raised Suzuki's season total to a career-high 67 through 71 games.

  • Canadiens' Sam Montembeault: Sharp in Colorado

Montembeault stopped 27 of 28 shots in a 2-1 win over the Avalanche on Tuesday.

After Nathan MacKinnon scored 43 seconds into the opening period, Montembeault rebounded to blank Colorado over the remaining 59 minutes Tuesday, as the 27-year-old netminder snapped his losing streak at six. Montembeault improves to 14-13-7 with a .905 save percentage and a 3.06 GAA this season. Cayden Primeau figures to get the start Thursday versus Philadelphia, lining up Montembeault for a home matchup with the Hurricanes on Saturday.

  • Canadiens' Sam Montembeault: Gets starting nod Tuesday

Montembeault will be in goal on the road against Colorado on Tuesday, Luc Gelinas of RDS reports.

Montembeault is mired in a six-game losing streak during which he posted a 0-3-3 record, 2.95 GAA and .901 save percentage. Given the Habs' recent goalie rotation, it is likely that Montembeault will also be in the crease versus the Flyers on Thursday before Cayden Primeau faces Carolina on Saturday, though that's certainly not set in stone. For his part, Montembeault needs three more victories to match the 16 wins he put together last season.

  • Canadiens' Cole Caufield: Helps in win

Caufield had an assist, one shot on net and one blocked shot in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Kraken.

Caufield had the primary helper on Kaiden Guhle's first-period tally that gave Montreal a 1-0 lead. Caufield's had a productive March, logging eight points over 10 games, but the forward's wayward scoring touch has returned. He has just one goal on 64 shots over the last 16 games; that's similar to an earlier stretch, when Caufield had one goal (38 shots) in a 12-game stretch between Nov. 30 and Dec. 28.

  • Canadiens' Michael Pezzetta: Contributes to win

Pezzetta had an assist, two blocked shots and four hits in Sunday's 5-1 win over Seattle.

Pezzetta logged his first point since Feb. 6, a stretch that includes several healthy scratches. He had a classic Pezzetta-like night. On his first shift, he hit Ryker Evans, who didn't return due to a lower-body injury, then Pezzetta's dogged forechecking in the offensive zone led to the first of two Alex Newhook goals. Pezzetta leads Montreal with 205 hits over 49 games, and he's added 11 points this season.
