Lyon turned aside 18 of 23 shots in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Flyers. Philadelphia's final goal was scored into an empty net. The second period was especially tough for Lyon as he made his first NHL start since late January, as he gave up four goals on only 11 shots during the frame. It's looking increasingly unlikely that Spencer Knight (personal) will play again this season, but with the Panthers fighting to stay in the playoff picture, Lyon isn't likely to see much work behind Sergei Bobrovsky -- Florida has only one more back-to-back set left on its schedule, March 29-30 in Toronto and Montreal.... Panthers' Alex Lyon: Facing Flyers
Lyon will guard the road goal Tuesday against Philadelphia, Doug Plagens of the Panthers Radio Network reports. Lyon has permitted 23 goals on 203 shots in six NHL appearances this season en route to a 3-2-1 record. This will be his first start with the Panthers since a 37-save performance in a 4-3 overtime win over Boston on Jan. 28. The Flyers sit 30th in the league this campaign with 2.61 goals per game.... Panthers' Alex Lyon: Back with Panthers
Lyon was recalled from AHL Charlotte on Sunday. Florida returned Mack Guzda to the minors in a corresponding move. Lyon won both of his starts with the Checkers this weekend, allowing just one goal on 35 shots. He has permitted 23 goals on 203 shots at the NHL level this season en route to a 3-2-1 record. Lyon could start this week with the Panthers set to visit Detroit on Monday and play in Philadelphia on Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Alex Lyon: Sent to minors
Lyon was reassigned to AHL Charlotte on Wednesday, Colby Guy of Florida Hockey Now reports. Lyon has a 3-2-1 record, 3.89 GAA and .887 save percentage in six games with Florida this season, but he hasn't appear in an NHL contest since Jan. 28. The 30-year-old also has a 2.62 GAA and a .906 save percentage in 21 outings with Charlotte in 2022-23. Mack Guzda was called up in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Alex Lyon: Back with Panthers
Lyon was recalled from AHL Charlotte on Friday. Lyon was moved to the minors in a paper transaction in order to make him eligible for the AHL playoffs. He has been serving as Sergei Bobrovsky's backup due to the absence of Spencer Knight (personal).... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Alex Lyon: Sent down
Lyon was assigned to AHL Charlotte on Friday. Lyon will probably be back with the Panthers ahead of Saturday's game versus Pittsburgh. He has posted a 3-2-1 record at the NHL level this season with a 3.89 GAA and an .892 save percentage.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Alex Lyon: Summoned by Panthers
Lyon was called up by Florida on Wednesday. Lyon has a 3-2-1 record, 3.89 GAA and .887 save percentage in six games with Florida this season. He also has a 2.62 GAA and a .906 save percentage in 21 AHL contests with Charlotte in 2022-23. Spencer Knight was sent to the minors in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Alex Lyon: Sent down
Lyon was assigned to AHL Charlotte on Monday. Lyon has a 3-2-1 record with a 3.89 GAA and an .887 save percentage in six games with Florida this season. Sergei Bobrovsky (lower body) and Spencer Knight (upper body) will return to the lineup Monday versus Tampa Bay.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Alex Lyon: Rewarded with OT win
Lyon stopped 38 of 40 shots in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Bruins. With the score tied 2-2 late in the third period, David Pastrnak slipped a shot past Lyon to seemingly give Boston the win. However, Aleksander Barkov managed to tie it back up with only three seconds left on the clock while the netminder was on the bench, and then Sam Reinhart finished off the improbable comeback victory in OT. Lyon has started six straight games for Florida, going 3-2-1 with an .892 save percentage as he holds down the fort in net while Sergei Bobrovsky (lower body) and Spencer Knight (upper body) are on the mend.... Panthers' Alex Lyon: Taking on Boston
Lyon will guard the home goal Saturday against Boston. Lyon has played in each of the past five games since winning in relief against Montreal on Jan. 19. This will be his fifth straight start despite allowing 15 goals on 106 shots in his last three outings (0-2-1). Sergei Bobrovsky (lower body) and Spencer Knight (upper body) won't be in the lineup, so Lyon will be backed up by Mack Guzda. The Bruins rank second in the league this year with 3.77 goals per game.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Alex Lyon: Takes another loss
Lyon stopped 29 of 32 shots in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Kings. L.A.'s final goal was scored into an empty net with just over a minute left in the third period to put Florida in a 4-2 hole, although the Panthers did manage to get one back before the final horn. Lyon has started five straight games as the team deals with injuries in the crease, and the larger workload has exposed the 30-year-old's limitations -- he's gone 2-2-1 with a 4.07 GAA and .877 save percentage. Spencer Knight (upper body) didn't even dress Friday, so it's not yet clear which of Lyon, Knight or the recently promoted Mack Guzda will get the nod against the Bruins on Saturday.... See More ... Panthers' Alex Lyon: Gets start Friday
Lyon will be between the home pipes versus LA on Friday. Lyon stopped 42 shots Tuesday against Pittsburgh but gave up seven goals as he was making his fourth straight appearance. Lyon is 2-1-1 with a 4.30 GAA and .870 save percentage. He will face the Kings, who are 14th in NHL scoring, averaging 3.18 goals per contest. Lyon will be backed up by Mack Guzda, who was recalled earlier on Friday as Sergei Bobrovsky (lower body) and Spencer Knight (healthy scratch) will not dress.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Alex Lyon: Iced by Penguins
Lyon turned aside 42 shots in Tuesday's 7-6 overtime loss to Pittsburgh. The wild affair saw six goals scored in the first period alone, and three of the pucks that beat Lyon came on Penguins power plays, including Kris Letang's OT winner. The 30-year-old Lyon got another start with Spencer Knight having just returned from a conditioning stint with AHL Charlotte, but Lyon's .870 save percentage (17 goals on 131 shots) during his four-game stint as the Panthers' No. 1 option will have him ticketed for the bench as soon as Knight is deemed ready to go.... Panthers' Alex Lyon: Starting again Tuesday
Lyon will guard the road goal versus the Penguins on Tuesday, Penguins radio play-by-play announcer Josh Getzoff reports. Lyon will start back-to-back games, allowing Spencer Knight a bit more time to get up to speed following his recent injury. Lyon allowed five goals on 25 shots in a loss to the Rangers on Monday, so he remains a risky fantasy play.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Alex Lyon: Bounced by Blueshirts
Lyon stopped 20 of 25 shots in Monday's 6-2 loss to the Rangers. New York's final goal was scored into an empty net. After winning his first two games of the season for Florida, Lyon crashed back to earth with a thud. Spencer Knight returned from AHL Charlotte on Monday but didn't get the start, so look for Lyon to return to the No. 2 role in net starting Tuesday against the Penguins, and eventually get bumped back to Charlotte himself once Sergei Bobrovsky (lower body) is healthy.... Panthers' Alex Lyon: Gets starting nod Monday
Lyon will be between the road pipes against the Rangers on Monday. Lyon will look to build upon his two-game winning streak during which he posted a 2.55 GAA and .912 save percentage. With Sergei Bobrovsky (lower body) sidelined, it could fall to Spencer Knight to take the second game of the back-to-back versus the Penguins on Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Alex Lyon: Journeyman living the dream
Lyon made 29 saves Saturday in a 5-3 win over Minnesota. It was Lyon's first start and second win of the season. His only other game this season was Thursday when he relieved an injured Sergei Bobrovsky (lower body) just 2:01 into the game. Spencer Knight (undisclosed) is in the AHL for conditioning and could be back for Monday's game against the Rangers. But the Panthers play again Tuesday, and Lyon could be between the pipes in one of those contests. The undrafted, 30-year-old journeyman has just 17 NHL starts and 25 appearances over six seasons, and is clearly living the dream every time he hits the ice.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Alex Lyon: Starting Saturday
Lyon will defend the home net versus Minnesota on Saturday, George Richards of Florida Hockey Now reports. The Panthers are down to their third-string goaltender as Sergei Bobrovsky suffered a lower-body injury Thursday and Spencer Knight is at AHL Charlotte, getting in a couple of games as he recovers from an undisclosed injury. Lyon picked up the win versus Montreal on Thursday in relief of Bobrovsky, stopping 23 of 25 shots. He will face the Wild, who have scored 140 goals in 44 games, 21st in the NHL.... See More ... Panthers' Alex Lyon: Wins in relief in team debut
Lyon made 23 saves in his Florida debut in relief Thursday. He allowed two goals and earned the 6-2 win over Montreal. He was pressed into duty quickly after Sergei Bobrovsky left the game with a lower-body injury before even facing a shot. With Spencer Knight (undisclosed) on the IR and Bob the Goalie down, Lyon is suddenly the top cat in the litter box for Florida. At 30, he has just 25 NHL appearances under his belt and a career record of 8-7-3 with a .3.12 GAA and .896 save percentage. Lyon was 9-8-1 with a 2.55 GAA and .909 save percentage in 18 games with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL prior to his call-up. He's not a long-term fantasy solution, but he could be the team's starter for a week or so, depending on the severity of the injuries of the top guys.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Alex Lyon: Joining Panthers
Lyon was recalled from AHL Charlotte on Tuesday, Ryan Boulding of NHL.com reports. Lyon will dress as the backup goalie Tuesday against Colorado behind Sergei Bobrovsky. Spencer Knight (undisclosed) won't suit up for the contest and has been moved to injured reserve, according to the NHL media site.... See More ... See Less
