  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Key fumble in loss

Gibbs rushed the ball 12 times for 45 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-31 loss to the 49ers. He added two receptions (on four targets) for 11 yards. Gibbs began the game well, picking up 35 yards from scrimmage on the team's first four possessions. He had a highlight reel 15-yard touchdown run on the final drive in that span, juking several defenders and breaking through a couple tackles in the process. Things took a turn for the worse midway through the third quarter, however, as Gibbs lost a fumble that led directly to a game-tying touchdown for San Francisco. He got only one touch after that play, a sour close to an otherwise excellent rookie year in which he posted 1,261 yards from scrimmage with 11 total touchdowns across 15 regular-season games. Gibbs will be back with the Lions in 2024 and should lead the backfield alongside David Montgomery.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Finds end zone against Bucs

Gibbs carried the ball nine times for 74 yards and a touchdown and caught all four of his targets for 40 yards in Sunday's 31-23 divisional-round win over the Buccaneers. The rookie running back topped 100 scrimmage yards in his second career playoff game and got into the end zone for the third straight contest, putting the Lions in the lead for good with a 31-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter. Gibbs posted his best rushing yardage total since Week 16 in Sunday's win, and he figures to be busy again next weekend in the NFC Championship Game against the 49ers.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Goes for 68 yards plus score

Gibbs rushed eight times for 25 yards and a touchdown while corralling all four of his targets for 43 yards in Sunday's 24-23 playoff win over the Rams. Gibbs was an integral part of building Detroit's early 14-3 lead when he scored his club's second rushing touchdown of the first quarter in Sunday's NFC wild-card victory. Starter David Montgomery (14-57-1) hit pay dirt on the Lions' first possession, then Gibbs followed with a10-yard scamper up the middle on the ensuing offensive drive. Jared Goff then followed with a touchdown pass to tight end Sam LaPorta to complete a trifecta of touchdowns on the team's first three possessions. The offense cooled thereafter, but the early point explosion was enough to lift the team to the next round of the playoffs. Expect the Lions to get Gibbs to double-digit touches in the upcoming NFC divisional round.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Inefficient night in close loss

Gibbs rushed 15 times for 43 yards and brought in one of three targets for no gain in the Lions' 20-19 loss to the Cowboys on Saturday night. The electric rookie couldn't quite get loose for any significant gains Saturday night, with his longest run going for just 17 yards and Gibbs averaging just 1.9 yards per carry on his other 14 totes. He was also held without positive receiving yardage for only the second time all season, and Gibbs also saw his three-game touchdown streak snapped. The first-round pick will look to put together a better performance in order to head into the postseason with some momentum when the Lions face the Vikings in the Week 18 finale Jan. 7.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Big performance in blowout win

Gibbs rushed the ball 11 times for 100 yards and one touchdown in Saturday's 42-17 win over the Broncos. He added two receptions on two targets for eight yards and another score. Gibbs was out-touched by David Montgomery, but he was the far more efficient back. Seven of his 11 rushing attempts went for more than five yards, with his longest going for 34. He also found the end zone twice, first on a nine-yard reception midway through the second quarter and then on a rush from 12 yards away early in the final quarter. Gibbs has been limited to 13.7 touches per game since Montgomery returned from injury in Week 10, but he's been incredibly efficient with that work, and he now has eight touchdowns across his eight games.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Returns to end zone

Gibbs rushed the ball 11 times for 66 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 28-13 loss to the Bears. He added three receptions on four targets for 16 yards. Gibbs split work out of the backfield nearly evenly with David Montgomery, and the duo had nearly identical stat lines. Gibbs ultimately had the more productive day thanks to a 12-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter, his sixth trip to the end zone in his last seven games. He's also topped 80 total yards from scrimmage in three of five contests since Montgomery returned from a rib injury. Gibbs should be in a favorable position to close the season, particularly in a Week 15 matchup against a Broncos defense that has a particularly leaky run defense.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Totals 73 yards

Gibbs rushed 11 times for 54 yards while securing four of eight targets for 19 yards during Thursday's 29-22 loss to Green Bay. After seeing two more carries than David Montgomery did in the first game after Detroit's Week 9 bye, Gibbs has trailed his counterpart by four carries in each of the past two weeks. While the Alabama product has still been seeing more touches per game lately thanks to a notable role in the passing game -- and he could have had a more productive day had Jared Goff been more accurate on a couple of Gibbs' looks -- Gibbs' upside is undoubtedly capped by Montgomery, who racked up his ninth touchdown in eight games this season. The Detroit offense will look to keep fostering two productive running backs when the Lions reconvene for a Week 13 road matchup with a Saints defense that has allowed the fourth-fewest receptions to running backs in 2023.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Extends TD streak to four games

Gibbs rushed eight times for 36 yards and a touchdown while catching all six of his targets for 59 yards in Sunday's 31-26 win over the Bears. Gibbs got the Lions on the board in the second quarter with a two-yard rushing touchdown. That was the fifth rushing touchdown in the last four games for the 2023 first-round pick after Gibbs opened his career with a four-game touchdown drought. Gibbs will look to extend his touchdown streak to five games on Thanksgiving against the Packers as part of Detroit's one-two punch in the backfield alongside David Montgomery.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: May cut into Montgomery's lead role

Lions head coach Dan Campbell indicated Monday that Gibbs could see an uptick in his work in the team's backfield rotation during the second half of the season, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. "I don't think necessarily, talking to you right now, that I see Gibbs getting 65 plays. I don't see that," Campbell said. "But he's going to get his fair share now. We know what we can be and he's growing, so I think it'll be a little bit by committee and make sure we get those guys touches. Gibbs'll get his touches." After missing two straight games with a hamstring injury, Gibbs returned to action Week 7 and took hold of a lead role in the absence of David Montgomery (rib). In a loss to the Ravens in Week 7 and a win over the Raiders in Week 8, Gibbs played 86 and 69 percent of the Lions' snaps on offense, respectively, compiling 220 yards and two touchdowns (on 37 carries) and 14 receptions for 95 yards (on 15 targets) between the two contests. Though Montgomery was listed as a full practice participant Wednesday coming out of the Lions' Week 9 bye and appears poised to play Sunday against the Chargers, Campbell's comments suggest that Montgomery could cede more work to the Gibbs than he had on the occasions when both backs were available in three of the Lions' first four games. In those three games, Gibbs still averaged just shy of 12 touches (7.3 carries, 4.3 receptions), but the rookie's ability to handle even heavier workloads over the last two contests without sacrificing much efficiency might be reason enough for Campbell to have him split reps with Montgomery in relatively equitable fashion moving forward.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Ready for Week 7

Gibbs (hamstring) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's contest at Baltimore. Gibbs kicked off Week 7 prep with back-to-back limited practices, but coach Dan Campbell said Friday that the rookie running back is "gonna be a go" for Sunday following a two-game absence due to a hamstring issue, according to Colton Pouncy of The Athletic. With the Lions' top backfield option David Montgomery (ribs) ruled out and reserve Craig Reynolds (hamstring/toe) questionable to play, Gibbs doesn't have many obstacles to a huge workload this weekend, which could yield fruit as he's averaged 4.6 yards on his 39 carries and recorded 14 catches (on 18 targets) for 70 yards in four appearances.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Expected to play

Coach Dan Campbell said Friday that Gibbs (hamstring) is "gonna be a go" for Sunday's game in Baltimore, Colton Pouncy of The Athletic reports. Gibbs likely will return from a two-game absence and take on a role as Detroit's lead back, as David Montgomery (ribs) hasn't practiced since his early exit from last Sunday's win over Tampa Bay. The Lions still may opt to list Gibbs as questionable on the final injury report Friday afternoon, and there's also some question about the backup situation with Craig Reynolds (hamstring/toe) banged up as well. Campbell mentioned Friday that he'd prefer to ease Gibbs back into action but doesn't necessarily have that luxury given all the team's injury issues at RB, potentially putting the rookie in a high-usage role this Sunday against the Ravens, per Kyle Meinke of MLive.com.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Limited again Thursday

Gibbs (hamstring) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday. While the Lions' No. 1 running back David Montgomery (ribs) again was absent from drills Thursday, Gibbs maintained his activity level from Wednesday's walkthrough. At the same time, fellow back Craig Reynolds (hamstring/toe) had a cap on his reps after sitting out the first session of Week 7 prep. Gibbs and Reynolds appear to be the best bets among the trio to be available Sunday at Baltimore, but ultimately Friday's practice report will indicate whether one or both have a designation for that contest.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Top DFS Play

Gibbs is just $6,200 on FanDuel and could be in line for 20 touches in Week 7 against the Ravens. The Ravens are a very good defense, but they have allowed eight PPR Fantasy points per game to running backs through the air, and Gibbs should have 15 carries in addition to his work in the passing game. He may even be contrarian if he carries a questionable tag into Sunday.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Practicing again

Gibbs (hamstring) is practicing Thursday, Colton Pouncy of The Athletic reports. Gibbs and Craig Reynolds (hamstring) both are practicing, while David Montgomery (ribs) is absent for a second straight day. Gibbs dominated backfield work the last time Montgomery missed a game, though the rookie might not get as much work if he returns for Sunday's matchup in Baltimore after missing the last two weeks.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Start Him (Lineup Decisions)

Gibbs' volume should be pretty strong -- I'd expect somewhere around 15 touches at least. That alone puts him in the start conversation, but it's a little risky to expect good numbers against a defense that seems to play into his strengths. Have RB2 expectations, making him worthy of a nod over either Colts RB, any Broncos or Bears RB, and James Cook.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Limited Wednesday

Gibbs (hamstring) was a limited participant at Wednesday's walk-through practice. After sitting out the last two games due to a hamstring issue, Gibbs has a glimmer of hope to return Week 7. First and foremost, there's an expectation that the team's top running back David Montgomery will miss time due to a rib cartilage issue that he sustained this past Sunday at Tampa Bay. Additionally, head coach Dan Campbell told Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site on Monday that Gibbs was trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday's contest at Baltimore. Gibbs may have to log a full session by Friday in order to avoid a designation for that game, but even if he doesn't, he appears to be the healthiest back on the active roster with Craig Reynolds (hamstring/toe) joining Montgomery on the sideline Wednesday.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Trending in right direction

Coach Dan Campbell said Monday that Gibbs (hamstring) is trending toward playing Sunday against the Ravens, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports. Gibbs has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury that he sustained in practice ahead of Week 5. With David Montgomery (ribs) now appearing as if he'll sit out at least one game, the Lions might need to lean even more on Gibbs, though Craig Reynolds and Devine Ozigbo also remain in the backfield mix for Detroit.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Ruled out for Week 6

Gibbs (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game in Tampa Bay, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Gibbs hurt his hamstring at the end of last Friday's practice and now will miss a second straight game. His failure to practice this week suggests he's also at risk of missing Week 7 in Baltimore, though the Lions haven't commented on expectations beyond this Sunday. They're left with Craig Reynolds behind lead back David Montgomery, while Zonovan Knight (shoulder) is expected to miss the rest of the season.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: No practice again Thursday

Gibbs (hamstring) officially didn't practice Thursday. Gibbs hasn't practiced since he showed up on last Friday's injury report as a limited participant and doubtful to play Week 5 against the Panthers. He subsequently sat out this past Sunday's game, and he told Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press on Wednesday that he won't have an idea of his potential to return until after Friday's session. As a result, Gibbs' status will be of keen interest when the Lions post their final Week 6 practice report. If Gibbs is limited or out this weekend, Craig Reynolds likely would be the primary beneficiary out of Detroit's backfield behind No. 1 option David Montgomery.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Week 6 availability up in air

Gibbs (hamstring) said that he probably won't know until Friday if he'll be healthy enough to play Sunday at Tampa Bay, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. Gibbs strained his hamstring in practice last Friday and ended up missing Detroit's blowout win over the Panthers on Sunday. He was then held out of practice Wednesday, though he seems hopeful to get back on the field in at least a limited capacity by the end of the week. If Gibbs doesn't end up playing this weekend, the Lions will have Craig Reynolds and possibly Zonovan Knight (shoulder) as depth options behind lead runner David Montgomery. Lions running backs coach Scottie Montgomery said Wednesday that Gibbs is "right where he should be" and is deriving extra motivation from the knowledge that his early impact hasn't met outside expectations.
