  • Commanders' Chase Young: Plays only three games in 2022

Young made only three appearances in 2022 and recorded five tackles and one pass defense on 115 snaps.

The 2020 No. 1 overall pick made his season debut Dec. 24 after suffering ACL and MCL tears Nov. 14 the year before. Young has only nine career sacks through three pro seasons, with 7.5 of those coming in a debut campaign that also included four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and a Defensive Rookie of the Year award. With a full offseason to continue strengthening his knee, Young has a chance to emerge as a top edge rusher in 2023, his age-24 campaign.

  • Commanders' Chase Young: Back in full Thursday

    Young (illness) practiced fully Thursday.

After missing Wednesday's session due to an illness, the 2020 No. 2 overall draft pick returned to Thursday's practice without limitations, ultimately putting him back on track to suit up again New Year's Day versus Cleveland. Young made his campaign debut this past weekend in San Francisco and collected two tackles while playing 58 percent of Washington's defensive snaps, and while it's likely that he'll see an uptick in usage moving forward, he'll presumably be on some sort of limited snap count in Week 17.

  • Commanders' Chase Young: Dealing with illness

Young didn't practice Wednesday due to an illness.

Young, who missed the majority of the campaign while rehabbing from last November's surgery to repair the ACL, MCL and patella tendon in his right knee, made his first appearance in over a year during last week's loss to the 49ers, totaling two tackles and one pass breakup across 30 defensive snaps. The positive news is that the superstar pass rusher isn't listed with a knee injury, suggesting he avoided any potential setbacks during his return to action. However, Young is now dealing with an illness that at least temporarily put his status for Sunday's matchup with the Browns in jeopardy.

  • Commanders' Chase Young: Small role expected in debut

Young (knee) is expected to face an initial limit of 12-to-15 snaps in his season debut Saturday at San Francisco, though head coach Ron Rivera is leaving the door open for the defensive end to play more if he's feeling good during the contest, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Young will be playing his first game in more than 13 months after he suffered a torn ACL and MCL and ruptured patella tendon in his right knee Nov. 14 of last year. Though Young has required slightly longer than anticipated to fully move past the injury, he appears to have had a positive week of practice and will finally be turned loose Saturday. Young will likely be limited to some extent Saturday, but he should be ready to take on a full workload by the time the Commanders host the Cowboys for the regular-season finale Jan. 8.
