Young compiled two tackles (two solo), including a sack, during San Francisco's 27-14 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday. Young managed to record his first sack with the 49ers on Sunday, and he now has 5.0 sacks total through seven games this season. The 2020 first-round pick will now look to increase his totals during Thursday's matchup with the Seahawks.... See More ... See Less

49ers' Chase Young: Heading to Bay Area
The Commanders traded Young to the 49ers on Tuesday in exchange for a 2024 third-round draft pick, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. San Francisco has been seeking out a bookend to reigning Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa, and it appears to have found one in Young, who was the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Both are Ohio State products, and Young seemingly has bounced back after back-to-back subpar and injury-riddled campaigns with five sacks in seven games so far this season. With the 49ers on bye Week 9, Young will have plenty of time to get up to speed with his new team before its next game Nov. 12 in Jacksonville.... See More ... See Less -
Commanders' Chase Young: Makes impact in return
Young returned from a neck injury, played in his first game of the season and recorded 1.5 sacks and three tackles in Washington's 35-33 win over Denver on Sunday. Young also played on 71 percent of the defensive snaps after his coach, Ron Rivera, said he would "most likely be on a pitch count." It's an encouraging sign for the 2020 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, who has started just 11 games since that season. Young tore his ACL and patellar tendon in Week 10 of the 2021 campaign and missed most of 2022 before injuring his neck in the preseason this year.... See More ... See Less -
Commanders' Chase Young: Will play Week 2
Young (neck) has been cleared to play Sunday against the Broncos, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Young suffered a neck stinger during the preseason and missed the Commanders' Week 1 win over the Cardinals. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Young has played in just three games since Week 10 of the 2021 season. Though Young is likely to start at defensive end opposite Montez Sweat, head coach Ron Rivera said that Young will "most likely be on a pitch count" in his 2023 debut, per Josina Anderson of CBS Sports.... Commanders' Chase Young: Likely out until Week 3
Young (neck) has been ruled out for Sunday's season opener against the Cardinals and is not expected to make his debut until at least Week 3, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports. After Young spent most of the summer rehabbing the neck injury, the Commanders will ultimately err on the side of caution with the defensive end as the season kicks off. Team doctors have laid out a plan to gradually increase his contact at practice, putting Young in line to sit out again Week 2 at Denver before making his season debut Week 3 versus Buffalo. The 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year played only the final three games of last season after missing the previous 22 dating back to Week 10 of the 2021 season due to a significant knee injury. Washington declined his fifth-year option during the offseason, making Young a free agent following this year's campaign. Thus, the fourth-year pro will be in line for a crucial season.... Commanders' Chase Young: Questionable for Week 1
Young (neck) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Young spent most of the summer rehabbing his neck injury but did get in a round of limited practices this week. That would typically put Young in line to play, but after missing most of camp and the preseason, it's unclear if the Commanders will clear him to play Week 1.... See More ... See Less -
Commanders' Chase Young: Back to practice, but limited
Young (neck) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday ahead of Week 1 versus the Cardinals. Young played in just three games in 2022 and missed most of the preseason with a neck issue, but it's at least an encouraging sign to see him return to practice. James Smith-Williams probably has the most to gain in terms of playing time if Young sits out of game action.... See More ... See Less -
Commanders' Chase Young: Exits with stinger
Young left Friday's 17-15 preseason victory over the Browns early due to a stinger, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports. Head coach Ron Rivera did not sound too concerned about the injury following the game, but it is still an issue worth monitoring. Young had his fifth-year option declined by Washington during the offseason and is now looking to bounce back from an injury-plagued start to his career.... See More ... See Less -
Commanders' Chase Young: Active for offseason workout
Young was present for the start of Washington's offseason program Monday, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports. Young appeared in only three games last season as he recovered from ACL and MCL tears he sustained in November 2021, but he looks ready to go ahead of 2023. Although the team hasn't picked up his fifth-year option on his contract for 2024, the 24-year-old seems to be all-in for what could be his final season in Washington.... See More ... See Less -
Commanders' Chase Young: Back in full Thursday
Young (illness) practiced fully Thursday. After missing Wednesday's session due to an illness, the 2020 No. 2 overall draft pick returned to Thursday's practice without limitations, ultimately putting him back on track to suit up again New Year's Day versus Cleveland. Young made his campaign debut this past weekend in San Francisco and collected two tackles while playing 58 percent of Washington's defensive snaps, and while it's likely that he'll see an uptick in usage moving forward, he'll presumably be on some sort of limited snap count in Week 17.... Commanders' Chase Young: Small role expected in debut
Young (knee) is expected to face an initial limit of 12-to-15 snaps in his season debut Saturday at San Francisco, though head coach Ron Rivera is leaving the door open for the defensive end to play more if he's feeling good during the contest, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Young will be playing his first game in more than 13 months after he suffered a torn ACL and MCL and ruptured patella tendon in his right knee Nov. 14 of last year. Though Young has required slightly longer than anticipated to fully move past the injury, he appears to have had a positive week of practice and will finally be turned loose Saturday. Young will likely be limited to some extent Saturday, but he should be ready to take on a full workload by the time the Commanders host the Cowboys for the regular-season finale Jan. 8.... Commanders' Chase Young: Season debut delayed again
Young (knee) is listed as inactive Sunday against the Giants. The Commanders activated Young from the reserve/PUP list Nov. 21, likely with the hope they'd feel comfortable enough reintroducing him to the defense in short order. However, he's now had three chances to do so as he seeks his first game action since tearing the ACL in his right knee Nov. 22, 2021. Washington is firmly in the playoff chase, but with just three games remaining in the regular season, the team is running out of time to see what Young can offer before the wild-card round kicks off Saturday, Jan. 14. Young's next chance to play will come Saturday in San Francisco.... See More ... See Less -
Commanders' Chase Young: Season debut delayed again
Young (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game at the Giants. Young remains in the later stages of his recovery from the torn ACL in his right knee that he sustained Week 10 of last year and required surgery Nov. 22, 2021. While he was activated from the reserve/PUP list Nov. 21 this year, his season debut will be delayed yet again, with a pregame workout ultimately deciding his fate Sunday. The Commanders embark on their bye week after Sunday's contest, so Young's next chance to play will arrive Sunday, Dec. 18, again versus the Giants.... See More ... See Less -
Commanders' Chase Young: Limited once again
Young (knee) logged a limited practice Thursday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports. Young logged another limited practice as he works his way toward his 2022 debut. He'll continue pushing to make that happen Sunday against the Giants, but he'll probably need to log a full practice before doing so, making his participation level Friday worth monitoring.... Commanders' Chase Young: Limited to start Week 13 prep
Young (knee) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, John Keim of ESPN.com reports. Young was activated from the reserve/PUP list ahead of Week 12, but he ultimately remained sidelined for the win over Atlanta due to an illness. The star pass rusher isn't being listed with an illness anymore, so it appears he's moved past the aliment, though he remains limited while working his way back from ACL and MCL tears in his right knee. Young will likely have to log at least one full practice before Washington clears him for his 2022 season debut.... See More ... See Less -
Commanders' Chase Young: Dealing with illness
Young (knee/illness), who is listed as questionable, isn't expected to be active for Sunday's contest against the Falcons, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Young has been activated from the reserve/PUP list and is thus eligible to make his season debut this week, and while it looks like that was Washington's initial plan, an illness may delay the standout defensive end's return by one more game. The Commanders will make an official decision on Young's status prior to Sunday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff, but with Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reporting that the defensive end would be limited to approximately 12-to-16 snaps even if active, fantasy managers in IDP formats may want to pivot to other options.... Commanders' Chase Young: Week 12 availability uncertain
Young (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's against the Falcons, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. Young, who is working back from surgery to repair a torn ACL, remained limited in each practice this week. Though the defensive end still appears to have a decent chance at debuting Sunday, Commanders head coach Ron Rivera told Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports that the defensive end will be limited to about 12-to-16 snaps if he suits up.... Commanders' Chase Young: Logs limited practice session
Young (knee - ACL + MCL) was a limited participant at Washington's practice Wednesday. Young was activated from the reserve/PUP list Monday and was able to take the practice field Wednesday, though it's uncertain whether he'll be able to play Sunday against Atlanta. The star defensive lineman has yet to play this season after tearing the ACL in his right knee last November, so the Commanders are likely to be cautious about his return. When he makes his season debut, Young will boost a Washington pass rush that ranks 11th in the NFL with 29 sacks on the campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Commanders' Chase Young: Won't be activated for Week 10
Young (knee) won't be activated for Monday's game against the Eagles, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio said this week that Young isn't yet up to full speed but is progressing in his recovery. The defensive end hasn't yet made any appearances in 2022 due to the knee injury that he sustained last year, but he should have a strong chance to make his season debut in Houston on Nov. 20.... Commanders' Chase Young: Could practice next week
Young (knee) should be designated to return from IR next week, according to head coach Ron Rivera, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. Young was expected to have his 21-day window to return opened this week, but he'll have to wait at least one more week. Jhabvala notes that Rivera said Young visited with Dr. Andrews on Thursday and "everything is positive." Considering it's been a little less than a year since the 23-year-old suffered a torn ACL and MCL, it really isn't surprising he's not quite ready, despite his continued optimism of a quick return during the offseason. If he does begin to practice next week, Young could suit up as soon as Week 9 against the Vikings, although a Week 10 return against the Eagles may be more realistic.... See More ... See Less
