Player Outlook
Godwin is expected to take off as a target hog in 2023 with Mike Evans' efficiency dropping off a cliff in 2022 and the lack of target competition outside of him. The case for Godwin rests on his individual target share volume, the fact that the Buccaneers will be throwing often while playing from behind, and the fact that he could have another gear to his game now one year removed from the ACL injury. Godwin finished as a WR2 or better in just four weeks during the 2022 season. If he wants to develop into a more consistent Fantasy asset, Godwin's 99th-highest average depth of target (5.6) has to rise. Godwin projects more as a WR3 in 2023.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: WRs to Sit

Godwin had a rushing touchdown in Week 13 against Carolina on his only carry for 19 yards, but without that, he would not have scored any Fantasy points. He only had three targets and failed to record a catch in a game he played in for the first time since 2018. Godwin still has just one receiving touchdown on the season and hasn't topped 66 receiving yards since Week 6. It's difficult to start Godwin even in three-receiver PPR leagues.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Gets into end zone Sunday

Godwin failed to catch any of his three targets but took his only carry 19 yards for a touchdown in Sunday's 21-18 win over the Panthers. The veteran wideout carried a questionable tag into the game due to a lingering neck issue, and Godwin didn't appear to be 100 percent as he failed to catch a pass in a game he played in for the first time since 2018. However, he salvaged his day with a jet sweep in the red zone early in the fourth quarter for just the second rushing TD of Godwin's career. He'll look to rebound as a pass catcher Week 14 against the Falcons.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Active in Week 13, as expected

Godwin (neck) is active for Sunday's Week 13 clash against the Panthers, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. Early Sunday reports indicated Godwin, who drew a questionable tag after missing Friday's practice, was expected to suit up as long as he checked out fine during pregame warmups. With that hurdle now cleared, the veteran wideout will aim to boost his production back up after posting just 13 receptions for 138 yards on 20 targets over his last three games, failing to top 54 receiving yards in any of the contests during that span.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Expected to play Sunday

Godwin (neck) is expected to suit up for Sunday's game against the Panthers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Godwin is officially listed as questionable due to a neck injury, but as long as all goes well in his pregame workout, he's expected to take the field versus Carolina. Following Friday's practice, head coach Todd Bowles labeled the 27-year-old as a game-time decision for the Week 13 contest, but at this point, it would be surprising if Godwin ends up on the inactive list, which will be released 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Trending toward playing Week 13

Godwin (neck) is considered likely to play Sunday versus Carolina pending his status during pregame warmups, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Godwin was a limited participant during practice Thursday before sitting out Friday's session due to a neck injury. The 27-year-old was deemed a game-time decision by Todd Bowles on Friday. While his status will still come down to his performance in pregame warmups, it appears Godwin should be good to go for Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Status in question for Sunday

Godwin (neck) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Panthers. Godwin was a midweek addition to Tampa Bay's Week 13 injury report, showing up as limited Thursday due to a neck issue. He followed it up with an absence from Friday's session, after which coach Todd Bowles called Godwin a game-time decision, per Greg Auman of Fox Sports. Godwin's status won't be clarified until about 90 minutes before Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff, so there will be fewer wide receivers to pivot to if he's unable to suit up. Buccaneers that would stand to benefit behind Mike Evans if that happens are WRs Trey Palmer and Deven Thompkins and TE Cade Otton.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Game-time call

Coach Todd Bowles considers Godwin (neck) a game-time decision for Sunday's matchup with Carolina, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports. The Bucs added Godwin to their injury report Thursday as a limited participant, then held him out of practice entirely Friday. He apparently has a chance to play nonetheless, with Bowles suggesting Friday afternoon that the wide receiver's status is uncertain heading into a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff. Godwin likely will be listed as questionable on the final injury report, with a Sunday absence meaning more playing time for Deven Thompkins and increased target-share projections for WRs Mike Evans and Trey Palmer and TE Cade Otton.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Not at practice

Godwin (neck) isn't practicing Friday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports. It's a poor sign for his Week 13 availability after he was a mid-week addition to the injury report, listed as limited in Thursday's practice. If Godwin can't play Sunday against the Panthers, his absence presumably would lead to more playing time for No. 4 WR Deven Thompkins, and possibly more targets for starters Mike Evans and Trey Palmer.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Sit Him (Lineup Decisions)

Remember when Chris Godwin was known for being a super-reliable SLOT receiver? Those were the days. This season he's lined up wide on 68% of his snaps. Can't help but think that's caused the massive change in his production this year -- that and his quarterback isn't a serial slot-targeter (or a Hall of Famer). Godwin's been under 60 yards in five straight, hasn't had a game with even 10 PPR points since Week 8 and has one touchdown on the year despite being tied for 12th among all NFL players in end-zone targets with nine. It gets worse: The Panthers offense can't score and their run defense is so bad, leaving pass-negative game scripts for their opponents. Just two teams (the Saints and Dolphins) have rostered multiple receivers with 10-plus PPR points against the Panthers in 2023. I'd sit Godwin for Josh Downs, Brandin Cooks, Christian Watson and Curtis Samuel (especially if PPR).

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Limited Thursday by neck issue

Godwin was added to the Buccaneers' Week 13 injury report Thursday as a limited practice participant due to a neck issue. Since he wasn't included on the initial Week 13 injury report released Wednesday, Godwin may have hurt his neck at some point during Thursday's practice session. Godwin will have one more opportunity to practice Friday before the Buccaneers potentially hand him an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Panthers.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: WRs to Sit

It used to be safe to start Godwin in all PPR leagues, but even that is risky now given his performances over the past four games. He's scored 9.9 PPR points or less in four games in a row, and he's been held to under 55 receiving yards in each outing. He has one touchdown this season, and Mike Evans is the only reliable receiver for the Buccaneers right now. Baker Mayfield (ankle) is playing at less than 100 percent, and the Panthers are No. 4 in the fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing receivers. Godwin is barely a starter in three-receiver leagues in most formats in Week 13.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Three catches in loss

Godwin brought in three of seven targets for 45 yards in the Buccaneers' 27-20 loss to the Colts on Sunday. Godwin tied for second in receiving yards and was the runner-up in targets on the afternoon for Tampa Bay, but his numbers have to once again be considered a disappointment. The seven-year veteran nearly came down with a touchdown grab in the right corner of the end zone on Kyle Trask's one pass attempt, but he's now gone without a score in four consecutive contests. Godwin has failed to top 54 receiving yards in five straight games as well, dampening his fantasy outlook heading into a Week 13 home matchup against the Panthers.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Good to go

Godwin (knee/elbow) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Colts. The Bucs listed Godwin as a limited practice participant Wednesday through Friday. It seems neither of his injuries is serious, and he should handle his usual role catching short and intermediate passes from QB Baker Mayfield.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Keeps limited listing Thursday

Godwin (knee/elbow) was listed as limited on Thursday's injury report. The Buccaneers continue to place listed restrictions on Godwin's activity level this week due to knee and elbow injuries, giving the wide receiver just one more chance to get back to full before week's end. Friday's practice report will unveil whether or not he enters the weekend with an injury designation for Sunday's game in Indianapolis.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Limited due to pair of injuries

Godwin was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice due to knee and elbow injuries, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports. Godwin wasn't known to be dealing with any health concerns during this past Sunday's 27-14 loss to the 49ers, so his limitations Wednesday were either the result of a previously unreported injury or an in-practice setback. Whatever the case, Godwin's practice activity will now warrant tracking over the next two days to get a sense of his odds of playing Sunday at Indianapolis.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Start Him (Lineup Decisions)

The Bucs figure to fall into a pass-heavy game script which should in turn help Godwin pick up more targets and catches than he's had over his past couple of games. An outing with 12 or more PPR points doesn't seem like too much to ask for and puts him squarely in the mix of other flex receivers in reception-based leagues. I'd start him over DeAndre Hopkins, Amari Cooper and Calvin Ridley, but I'd rather start Tyler Boyd, Diontae Johnson and Rashee Rice. In non-PPR he's much less desirable.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: WRs to Sit (Start/Sit)

Godwin is coming off a rough couple of weeks against Houston and Tennessee where he's combined for just 13 PPR points. He has 12 targets over that span for six catches and 70 yards and no touchdowns, and he only has one touchdown this year. Godwin is still worth starting in three-receiver PPR leagues, but he doesn't have a high ceiling. The 49ers matchup isn't daunting, but Baker Mayfield should struggle with San Francisco's pass rush. I'm still trusting Mike Evans as a No. 2 Fantasy receiver in the majority of leagues, but Godwin remains risky in this matchup given his body of work this year.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Plays through illness Sunday

Godwin (illness) secured four of six targets for 54 yards in the Buccaneers' 20-6 win over the Titans on Sunday. The veteran wideout worked through his ailment to finish second in receptions, receiving yards and targets to Mike Evans on the afternoon. Godwin's numbers Sunday were certainly an improvement over his season-worst 2-16-0 line against the Texans in Week 9, but he'll head into a tough Week 11 road matchup against the 49ers having recorded 77 yards or fewer in five consecutive contests.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Active Sunday, despite illness

Godwin is active for Sunday's game against the Titans, and he's expected to play despite dealing with an illness, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports. Godwin didn't appear on the Buccaneers' Week 10 injury report and didn't carry a designation into the contest, so the illness is likely something that emerged at some point Saturday or earlier Sunday. While the nature of Godwin's ailment isn't known, it's not believed to be anything that will prevent him from handling his usual starting role Sunday. However, it's possible his snap count be scaled back if the illness is inhibiting him in any way as the contest rolls along.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Two catches in Week 9 loss

Godwin brought in two of six targets for 16 yards in the Buccaneers' 39-37 loss to the Texans on Sunday. Godwin's output was disappointingly muted in the back-and-forth affair, with both his catch and yardage totals qualifying as season lows. The veteran receiver has topped 77 yards just once this season and has seen his totals decrease from that of the prior week in four consecutive games. Following Sunday's quiet afternoon, Godwin seemingly has nowhere to go but up in a Week 10 home matchup against a vulnerable Titans pass defense.
