  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Produces double-digit sacks

Bosa finished the 2023 regular season with 53 tackles (34 solo), 10.5 sacks and two forced fumbles while starting all 17 games for San Francisco. Bosa had a down year based on the lofty standards he set for himself by averaging 17 sacks per year over his previous two campaigns. The 2022 Defensive Player of the Year was not one of the five finalists for the award this season, further highlighting the superstar's underwhelming final results. Even with all of the attention opposing offensive lines direct Bosa's way, the premier edge rusher still coasted to double-digit sacks for the third consecutive season. With a lucrative five-year contract signed this past September, Bosa will be bookending a dominant San Francisco defensive line for the foreseeable future.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Relentless in Week 12 victory

Bosa tallied five tackles (three solo), including 2.0 sacks, in Thursday's 31-13 Thanksgiving win against the Seahawks. Bosa was ferocious in his pursuit of Seattle QB Geno Smith, registering five total quarterback hits. He brought down Smith for a solo sack early in the third quarter and twice split a sack in the fourth. Bosa had a relatively slow start to the campaign with a modest 3.0 sacks over his first eight games, but since San Francisco's Week 9 bye he's posted 5.0 sacks across just three contests.

Bosa tallied three tackles, with a sack, in the 49ers' 27-14 win against Tampa Bay on Sunday. Bosa had another productive outing as he recorded one of San Francisco's four sacks of Baker Mayfield on Sunday. The 26-year-old has compiled 28 tackles (18 solo), with 5.5 sacks, through 10 games this season and will look to add to those numbers versus Seattle on Thursday.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Registers in sack column again

Bosa recorded three tackles (two solo) including 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in Sunday's 34-3 win at Jacksonville. Bosa found his way into the sack column for the fourth time in his last five games Sunday. He also created a turnover for the first time this season. He's had a down year so far relative to the ridiculous standards he's set for himself over the past couple seasons, but he's still one of the best pass-rushers in the league and a good IDP play in Week 11 versus the Buccaneers.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Notches first sack of 2023

Bosa had three tackles (two solo), including one sack, in Thursday's 30-12 win over the Giants. Bosa totaled two quarterback hits as San Francisco's pass rush overwhelmed New York's banged up offensive line and kept Daniel Jones under constant pressure. The sack was his first since Bosa notched one in Week 17 of last season to bolster his 2022 sack total to 18.5. He failed to record a sack in three playoff games or the first two games of the 2023 campaign.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Holding out

Bosa did not report for camp Tuesday as he continues his contract dispute with the 49ers, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The 25-year-old is coming off an 18.5-sack season, as he led the 49ers to having the best defense in the NFL on a points allowed per game basis (17.2). Bosa has yet to agree to his second contract with San Francisco, and general manager John Lynch told reporters this week he doesn't expect the 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year to report to camp without a new deal.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Held out of Wednesday's practice

Bosa (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Bosa opened Week 14 prep as a spectator during Wednesday's session, after head coach Kyle Shanahan previously said the star pass rusher is dealing with a "hamstring irritation" that the team will work through, per David Lombardi of The Athletic. Though the 25-year-old collected a season-high three sacks and forced a fumble on just 38 defensive snaps last weekend versus Miami, his status is definitely worth monitoring as the week goes on.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Remains limited Thursday

Bosa (groin) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Bosa logged his second limited practice in a row Thursday after missing last week's loss to Atlanta with a groin strain. The star pass rusher recorded 15 tackles and a team-high six sacks over the first five games of the season, so it's possible the 49ers are handling him with extra care as he works back from this injury. Either way, Bosa will have one more practice to increase his activity before Sunday's game against the Chiefs.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Chance to play Sunday

San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said that Bosa has "a chance" to play Sunday against the Falcons, but the star pass rusher won't practice Wednesday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Bosa suffered a groin strain during the 49ers' Week 5 win over the Panthers. Though the 49ers don't believe he's dealing with a major injury, Bosa could still be at risk of missing at least one game. Bosa's participation in practice Thursday and Friday -- or lack thereof -- should provide further clarity regarding his availability for this weekend's game.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Forced out Sunday

Bosa (groin) was ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Panthers, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Bosa picked up a groin injury at some point during Sunday's game, which will keep him sidelined for the second half against Carolina. The two-time Pro Bowler recorded one tackle before exiting and has recorded a team-high six sacks through the first five weeks of the season, so his health status will be a major area of concern for San Francisco moving forward. With Bosa sidelined, expect Charles Omenihu, Drake Jackson and Kerry Hyder to see increased usage.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Four sacks through three games

Bosa notched two tackles and one sack during Sunday's 11-10 loss to the Broncos. Across the first three games of the season, the defensive end has 11 tackles and four sacks, putting him on pace to eclipse the career high (15.5 sacks) he set last season.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Nabs 1.5 sacks in NFCCG loss

Bosa recorded six tackles (four solo) and 1.5 sacks in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Rams. Bosa turned in a stellar bounce-back campaign after missing the majority of his sophomore season due to a torn ACL. The 24-year-old phenom finished with 52 tackles (40 solo), 15.5 sacks and four forced fumbles across 17 games, putting himself in the conversation for NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Bosa now will enter the final year of his rookie contract, and he should be in line for a big payday even if he simply replicates this season's dominant results.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: No practice Tuesday

Bosa (concussion) didn't practice Tuesday, Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site reports. Late in the first half of Sunday's wild-card matchup with the Cowboys, Bosa slammed helmet-first into the knee of teammate D.J. Jones and eventually was ruled out due to a concussion. On Monday, coach Kyle Shanahan relayed that the 49ers were "optimistic" about Bosa's chances of gaining clearance ahead of Saturday's divisional-round game at Green Bay. Having said that, Bosa likely will need to make an appearance at practice Wednesday or Thursday to give himself a chance to do so on a short week.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Diagnosed with concussion

Bosa has been ruled out of Sunday's wild-card game at Dallas due to a concussion. While rushing the passer late in the second quarter, Bosa's upper body collided with the lower body of teammate D.J. Jones, snapping his head back in the process. Bosa was able to walk to the locker room, but he didn't return to the field after halftime and won't reenter the contest following the diagnosis. Samson Ebukam and Arden Key will assume Bosa's role for rest of the 49ers' playoff opener.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Dominant in third year

Bosa finished the 2021 regular season with 52 tackles (40 solo), 15.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. Bosa bounced back from a major knee injury in 2020 to not only reclaim the dominant form we saw in his rookie campaign, but he also took another step forward as a pass rusher and backfield disruptor. From a fantasy standpoint, the 24-year-old's prowess for accruing sacks helped offset the lower tackle totals of a defensive lineman. Barring injury this postseason and offseason, Bosa will enter the 2022 campaign as one of the top defensive players in the league while serving as the motor that drives San Francisco's defense.

The 49ers will host a Week 3 matchup against the Packers, who are still without All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: To have surgery this week

Bosa is slated to have surgery on his torn left ACL and associated cartilage damage this week, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Bosa was one of a number of 49ers to suffer injuries of varying severity last Sunday against the Jets, but only his and Solomon Thomas' (torn ACL) were season-enders. Once the procedure is complete, the 49ers likely will have a better idea of his recovery timeline, but they are hopeful Bosa will be healthy by Week 1 of the 2021 campaign. For the rest of this season, though, the team's pass rush will be led by Arik Armstead, Dee Ford (back), Kerry Hyder, Dion Jordan and Ezekiel Ansah.
