  • Texans' Jermaine Carter: Signs with Houston

Carter and the Texans agreed to terms on a one-year deal Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Carter will head to Houston after playing in seven games for Cleveland last season, where the 2018 fifth-round pick logged 16 tackles (eight solo) while playing on both defense and special teams. The 28-year-old should compete for a spot as a reserve linebacker and special teamer heading into the 2023 campaign.

  • Panthers' Jermaine Carter: Active for Week 17

Carter (groin) is active for Sunday's contest against the Saints, Jonathan M. Alexander of The Charlotte Observer reports. Carter was a limited participant in practice all week, but he will be available for the Panthers on Sunday. The middle linebacker has 76 tackles in 15 appearances this season, so his presence will be a big boost against Alvin Kamara and the Saints' offense.

  • Panthers' Jermaine Carter: Secures starting role

Coach Matt Rhule named Carter as the starting middle linebacker Tuesday, Alaina Getzenberg of The Charlotte Observer reports. The 28-year-old recorded 46 tackles (25 solo) in 16 games for the Panthers last season, and he showed well in training camp to earn the starting spot. Denzel Perryman, who signed a two-year, $6 million deal in the spring, was traded to the Raiders on Wednesday after being beat out by Carter.

  • Panthers' Jermaine Carter: Makes eight stops

Carter finished with eight tackles (four solo) in Sunday's 28-27 loss to the Vikings. • Panthers' Jermaine Carter: Could start Week 16

Interim Coach Perry Fewell said Thursday that Carter will slot into the starting lineup if Shaq Thompson (ankle) is forced to miss any time, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. Carter normally plays a depth role in Carolina's linebacker corps, but he could be in line to start in Indianapolis on Sunday with Thompson having missed back-to-back practices. The 2018 fifth-round pick could have limited fantasy value in deep IDP formats if Thompson indeed misses time.
