Texans' Denzel Perryman: Suspension reduced
The NFL announced Wednesday that Perryman had his three-game suspension reduced to two games following an appeal.
Perryman was handed the suspension after the NFL deemed that he accrued the sixth violation of his career of rules intended to protect player health and safety of players. After having his suspension reduced, Perryman will now miss games Week 11 against the Cardinals and Week 12 against the Jaguars before returning to action Week 13 versus the Broncos. Texans' Denzel Perryman: Handed down suspension
Perryman was suspended by the NFL on Tuesday for three games due to repeated violations of playing rules intended to protect the health and safety of players, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Perryman's suspension comes after he lowered his head and delivered a blow to Ja'Marr Chase in the fourth quarter of Sunday's win over the Bengals, which resulted in a flag for unnecessary roughness. Due to having received six violations for this rule in his career, including in Week 2 of this season, Vice President of Football Operations Jon Runyan handed down the suspension. Perryman can appeal the suspension, but it's not yet known if he will. Perryman registered nine tackles (six solo), including half a sack, in Houston's 15-13 loss to the Panthers on Sunday.
Perryman missed the team's previous game with a hand injury and was productive in his return, as led the team in tackles while also getting to the quarterback for the first time this season. Perryman, who has been dealing with a broken hand and playing with a cast, was inactive Week 6 prior to the Week 7 bye. He's expected to return to middle linebacker after a brief experiment at weakside linebacker, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. Perryman opened the season in the middle and recorded 18 tackles over the first two weeks before sustaining the hand injury.
